A Real Challenge
Third Person POV:
Batman starts fighting Slade with quick punches and kicks, but the mercenary blocks the attacks with his staff
When he counter attacks, Batman dodges Slade's attacks and knees him to the face
After that, he throws a flashbang to the floor, blinding Batman for a few seconds
Deathstroke then tries to hit Batman with his staff, but the vigilante blocks every attack and headbutts him afterwards
Batman hits Deathstroke with fast and heavy punches, with the last one knocking Slade's helmet off his head
Batman then disarms him and takes his staff before breaking it in half, forcing Deathstroke to grab his spare sword
Both of them push their bodies to peak human condition while fighting each other
Slade is then disarmed by Batman once again
Y/N: It's over, Slade.
Slade: What are you?
Batman knocks him out with no effort
He then tries to go back to Penguin's office, but with no success
He sees Kate handcuffing Deathstroke
Y/N: What are you doing?
Kate: Handcuffing him. Something you should have done to Electrocutioner.
Y/N: He won't get far...Alfred.
He contacts Alfred on his comms
Alfred: Yes, master Wayne?
Y/N: Send an anonymous tip to the NYPD about Deathstroke. And see if you can find some info on a murder at Lacey Towers.
Alfred: Hmm, looks like the police are on the scene now, sir. Oh and this is interesting...they're saying Black Mask is the victim.
Y/N: Black Mask dead? I'm on my way there now.
Batman and Kate exit the ship and go to Lacey Towers to check on the murder scene
They see two cops going for a smoke and listen to a conversation between them
The cops say that Penguin killed Black Mask
Batman and Kate sneak up on them and incapacitate them before getting in the building
Kate: Penguin killed Black Mask?
Y/N: It doesn't make sense. If he's the killer, why would he send us here?
Y/N's POV:
When we arrive at the crime scene, we see a dead body on the ground wearing a Black Mask and a dead woman hanging from the chandelier
Kate: Oh my God...
I activate the detective vision of my lenses and start by analyzing the body that's lying down on the floor
Y/N: This crime took place days ago. The fire and exposure to the elements make identifying the victims difficult. The man is wearing a Black Mask, but I can't identify him as Sionis without a DNA alalysis. And I can't do that here.
After that, I scan the female victim's fingerprints
Y/N: Her name is Tiffany Ambrose, Roman Sionis' girlfriend...or one of them, at least. The fire spread is the result of a molotov cocktail thrown into the room. Somebody wanted to tie up loose ends.
I then look at the fingerprints on the wall, they're Penguin's
Y/N: The cops were right, Penguin was were. But evidence suggest that he got here after the fire, so he doesn't have a connection to the murders.
Kate: Hey, come take a look at this.
Kate shows me some dry blood near the kitchen's sink
I analyze it and it turns out that the blood belongs to the woman hanging from the chandelier
Y/N: Looks like someone snuck up on her and bashed her head against the sink.
I then see a phone, looks like it belonged to Tiffany
Y/N: Alfred, can you tell me what she was doing on her phone the night she was murdered?
Alfred: She was sending a text message to Roman Sionis about someone named "The Joker".
Y/N: Someone killed Black Mask, but this crime took place days ago and I saw Black Mask last night. The only answers I have raise more questions, like: "who is The Joker?" "Was he the killer here?" Or is he one of the assassins?"
Kate: That's some impressive detective work.
Y/N: We have a body, an unknown shooter and an unknown assailant who attacked the shooter. That explains the signs of fighting in this place. I need to match the DNA samples against the records in the National Criminal Database to identify who was in the room
Alfred: Well sir, I'm afraid the only way to do that would be to infiltrate the New York Police Department.
Y/N: Then that's where I'm going.
Alfred: Sir, you'd need to phisically hack into their servers. If you insist on doing something that foolish, I recommend coming back here for some planning.
Y/N: Not a bad idea.
I leave the building with Kate
Kate: So, how are we gonna get back?
I press a button on my gauntlet and call the jet
Y/N: Better hold on tight.
I grab her by the waist and grapple up to the jet
Kate: Whoa, sweet plane. Did you name it?
Y/N: Did I name it?
Kate: Yeah, like you know...Bat-plane, Bat-glider. Don't make me talk to you about branding issues. I already had that talk with Clint.
Y/N: Kate, I'm currently a myth to most people right now, so branding is the last thin on my mind right now
Kate: What about Batwing?
Y/N: I like it...Batwing.
We fly back to the cave
When we get out of the Batwing, Lucky comes running towards Kate and barks at me
I remove my mask and pet him
Y/N: Easy there, furball.
Alfred: Welcome home, sir! I downloaded the blueprints of the NYPD building on the computer so you can have some advanced planning.
Y/N: Noted.
I look at the blueprints before heading back to the Batwing
Kate: I'm going with you.
Y/N: No, not this time.
Kate: Why?
Y/N: The entire police force is hunting me down, I can't afford to have the new Hawkeye be seen helping me breach into the NYPD building. You're almost an Avenger...I can be whatever I want for them. I can't let you become their enemy.
Kate: Okay, but just...don't get caught, okay?
Kate's POV:
After Y/N leaves, I walk around the cave and see some postcards on the floor
Looks like someone named Andrea has been writing letters to Y/N
(A/N: Just ignore the "Bruce" and "Gotham city" written on it)
Kate: Alfred, who is Andrea Beaumont?
Alfred: Andrea? She's one of master Wayne's old friends. Why?
I hand him the letters
Alfred: Oh...
Kate: What happened to her?
Alfred: Ms. Beaumont and master Wayne were close...really close at the time before the Blip, but then her father suddenly went missing. She left Y/N to search for her father in Europe and he felt...heartbroken.
Kate: Is she...alive?
Alfred: From the date these letters have been written, it seems so.
So Y/N had a girlfriend who he really liked before all this...but he never talks about her
Y/N's POV:
I finally arrive at the NYPD building and infiltrate via the elevators
Alfred: Sir, after commisioner Loeb's death, the number of guards in the police prescincts have doubled. Be careful.
Y/N: Copy that.
I use everything I learned in the last years to stay hidden so no one can find me as I search for the server room
I then get in a ventilation shaft and hear Gordon briefing some cops regarding the situation
Gordon: I know everyone is still in shcok after what happened to commissioner Loeb, but we need to stay focused on our primary objective for tonight. Captain George Stacy will let you know.
(Mark Harmon as Captain George Stacy)
George: Thank you, Captain Gordon. So far Waylon Jones has been processed and we're following an anonymous tip on Deathstroke's location. There's eight assassins in town tonight, from the info we've been gathering, they are among the most dangerous criminals on record. After interrogating Jones, we've learned that they're all competing for a huge bounty which Black Mask has offered for the head of the Bat.
Cop: Where do I sign up?
The cops in the room laugh
Gordon: Okay people, cut the chatter. Our goal is to ensure order in this city, so the number one priority is to bring in the Bat before these assassins get to him.
Is Gordon being serious about this or is he just pretending to do his job?
After I exit the ventilation shaft, I see a cop
I then sneak up on him and take him down
Alfred: Must you be so brutal, sir? These are city employees.
Y/N: They're as corrupt as they come and they're in my way.
When I arrive at the server room, I see a young, red-haired teenage girl
(Sadie Sink as Barbara Gordon)
She gets scared for a moment before regaining her composure
Y/N: Easy...I need access to the National Criminal Database.
Barbara: It's right here.
I put a hard drive on one of the servers
Barbara: Cool Pwnbox, you're bypassing the network's security. But you'll need to physically bridge the intranet to the external telecom wires if you want to uplink remotely.
Y/N: This kind of knowledge could get a young girl into a lot of trouble.
Barbara: They run under the building.
Y/N: What does?
Barbara: The telecom wires. You can access them through the sewers. Wait... Why do you do what you do?
Y/N: Because I made a promise.
Just as I said that, a canister of tear gas rolls into the room
Y/N: Get out of here.
I sneak out of the room while the girl makes up excuses for the cops
I take the elevator to the roof
When I get there, I see Captain Stacy as the doors open
He tries to grab his gun, but I stop him
Y/N: I don't want to hurt you. But you need to stay out of my way. I'm on your side...
George: My side? My side works within the law. My side doesn't leave suspects with broken bones, and missing teeth. We've earned New York's respect.
Y/N: If that were true, I wouldn't be here.
After that, a group of S.W.A.T. members arrive and point their guns at me
Branden: Stacy, clear the line of fire!
George: Hold your fire! If he moves, take him down! You've got nowhere to run.
I then drop a smoke bomb to the ground and get Captain Stacy to safety
They open fire against me and end up hitting my shoulder. Luckily, the armor did its job
I fight them all and knock them out
After that, I leave the building
Alfred: Sir. I've highlighted a nearby manhole on your map. Those sewer tunnels lead directly under the NYPD.
Y/N: Thanks Alfred.
When I get to the sewers, I see that Black Mask's men have put bombs under the building
I start fighting them, but I see that the thugs have become more skilled
That wasn't a problem for me, since I beat them easily
Alfred: Master Y/N, you are directly beneath the NYPD. The telecom wires should be right under your nose.
Y/N: Got it. Confirm we now have access to the National Criminal Database.
Alfred: Connection confirmed. You can now perform DNA analysis. I'm also sending over the police file for the Lacey Towers case.
Y/N: The DNA tells more of the story... but here's something the police overlooked. Roman Sionis owns the New York Merchants Bank, and he installed biometric security only he could access.
I hack the National Criminal Database
Y/N: Here's what happened. By now, New York's finest believe that Roman Sionis is dead, murdered by the Penguin. But I know better. Someone spooked Sionis' girlfriend. So he sent her to his safe house.
Alfred: Which was anything, but safe.
Y/N: Sionis showed up later, ready for trouble... And found it. Or so it seemed. Roman's always been paranoid. It's probably why he's lasted this long. He'd sent in a decoy.
Alfred: Giving himself the element of surprise.
Y/N: But it wasn't enough. There was a fight, Sionis lost. The killer didn't hesitate to shoot the decoy, but he wanted Roman alive to access the cash stored at the New York Merchants Bank. With Sionis under control all that remained was to tie up loose ends. That's why he torched the place. But it wasn't the fire that killed Sionis' girlfriend...what kind of monster forces a man to kill the ones he loves?
Kate: The Joker...
Y/N: He's the shadow I've been chasing. Now I know where he's going next...New York Merchants Bank. I'm on my way there now.
I exit the sewers and head off to the bank
