Chapter 4: Beacon shines bright
The next day, Beacon Academy
It was now early in the morning and the enrollment day. The new batch of first year students are coming to the academy and become the next generation of huntsmens. One of them of course, was the German boy himself, Hartmann. He had just woken up from his sleep and see the time being 6:30. He let out a sigh as he got off the bed and off to the bathroom for a shower. When he was done cleaning himself, he then changed to his grey t-shirt and some shorts that was given to him.
The uniform felt pretty clean, and it's because that Glynda had either washed them or use some special perfume that killed the smell of his sweat and dirt.
Now for the enrollment, it usually starts at noon which is the time where all the first years will arrive by some "Airbuses" to the school, and since it was still morning, he decide if he could get some excersises to toughen him up a little. Glynda said the world is filled with dangers like the grimm or raiders, and she wouldn't always be there with him when he graduates. So he has to watch for himself at some point.
He went out of his room and started walking to the Gym that is somewhere around the campus. The whole Academy was empty and it is still a little dark, that because the rest of the students don't usually wake up this early and the sun had not risen yet. It felt a bit creepy too.
"Creepy isn't it?~"
Those 3 sudden words jolted the boy like a jack-in-a-box as he yelped and turned around to the source of the voice. He sighed in relief as it was only the dust professor, Thumbelina peach. "Y-You scared me, Ms. Peach.."
The tan-skinned woman let out a light chuckle. "Sorry about that. I just do that when people are wondering around at this hour. But, hey. You got a good laugh at that, don't ya?"
Hartmann rubbed the back of his neck and letting out a slight laugh. "Yeah..a little." He look to the professor and noticed that her eyes appear to have some bags under it, along with that, her peach hair was wrinkled and messy. Her clothes wasn't even tidy. "Are you..ok?"
"What? No! I'm fine as a cat." She said before yawning loudly infront of him, which the latter now knows she didn't get enough sleep.
"Um...by the looks of it, you are not."
Peach sighed in defeat. "Well, I didn't get that enough sleep since i had to prepare for the arrival of the first years. I don't know how many coffee i have drank..." He never seen Peach in this state before, Velvet did told him that Peach can be an Earlybird. And peach gets a bit crazy sorting things out perfectly, or even experimenting dusts aswell.
"But, Professor. The students will arrive at noon, and they will stay in somewhere for the night and begin their initiation first. So, you really did not have to do all of that." Hartmann said, remembering of what Glynda said to him about the first part.
"Oh, well thanks for the reminder, i guess. You go on and do whatever you want." Peach lets out another big yawn. "I think i'm gonna go take a...very long nap. See you later, doucheland boy." Peach walked elsewhere, possibly to her office and take a nap.
"It's...Deutschland." He sighed since the teachers here, in this school, kept naming his country wrong. But he shrugs it off and went to the gym.
After a few minutes of walking through the seemingly empty hallway, he finally made it to the door that leads to the gym room. It wasn't that large, but it is probably enough for at least dozens of students. The boy never been in one before and was hesitant a little of doing things like this, but to survive this world, he had to get stronger
For about 30 minutes, he was done exercising at the gym. It was pretty difficult at first of lifting the heavy dumbbells until then he has gotten a little strong to lift it easily. He wiped off a few of the sweats from his head, after that he left the gym room and walk to the Cafeteria.
He looked at the time as it is now 7 and the sun was rising at the sky. He saw a few students walking around the campus as they already have woken up from their beauty sleep, he thought of maybe finding Coco and her team until his stomach rumbled a bit.
Hartmann haven't ate for a while, so he had to get to the Beacon Cafeteria to get something to eat for Breakfast. He wondered if they have the same German cuisine like when junior's club had their Root beer.
A couple of students were still questioning about Him every time he passed them. They always whisper to each other about 'What is his weapons?' or 'What is his uniform' and another one which is 'Why or how is he here again?'. Hartmann just walks past and ignores them.
Few minutes of walking and he finally made it to the Cafeteria. It wasn't exactly huge, but it is large enough to fit almost a thousand students. He grabbed a tray and went to the front to get his breakfast.
It was a pancake that he used to have back in Germany, but the style was a bit different for him. Hartmann just shrug it off and went to one of the tables. When he sat on the chair, he took a look at the pancake along with the berries around and some type of syrup.
He took a fork and knife to cut it to little pieces, and then he took one bite of the Pancake while chewing slowly. Eventually, he stopped chewing as he admired the taste of the pancake. It was not that bland like he used to have and it is perfect on a higher level.
The butter is making it more savory, the berries add a nice touch with the pancake, and mostly the Syrup made the pancake to be very sweet. All of this made this pancake very perfect for him.
"Wow..these are very good pancakes. Even a certain girl would die by eating dozens of this." Hartmann said to himself and continue to eat the Pancakes in peace.
The cafeteria was a bit empty with only 10 students eating their breakfast, Hartmann was thinking on how to interact with the First-year students that are coming to this school later at noon. He wasn't much of a social person and sometimes messed up his words.
"I didn't expect you to be up this early." A familiar voice spoke near him. Hartmann turned to his right and he saw Velvet, the adorable looking bunny.
"Oh, hello Velvet. And yeah, I usually wake up this early sometimes." Velvet nodded at that since she also wakes up early sometimes. Hartmann then asked. "Where is Coco and the rest of your team?"
"Coco and Yatsuhashi went to the Gym while Fox stayed at the dorm to take a shower. I just decide to get some chow after I showered." Velvet said while setting down her tray. It was a carrot soup.
Hartmann chuckled a bit. "You rabbits and your carrots."
Velvet giggles and said. "Hey. We aren't animals but we still have their traits and interests. Plus, I loved carrots since I was little."
'Like a real rabbit.' Hartmann said in his head and continuing eating his pancakes.
The two had not exchange conversations since they were eating their breakfast. When Hartmann had finished his pancakes, he put down the spoon and fork while sighing.
Velvet stopped munching on the bread of the carrot soup and looked at Hartmann. "Is something bothering you?" She asked.
"Not really. It is just that, I am a little nervous about meeting the new first-year students that I will join in learning in the academy. There are lots of new faces that I will encounter and I am not a social kind of person." He explained.
"It's alright, I've been on that same boat as well." Velvet said.
Hartmann slightly tilt his head and asked. "What do you mean?"
"Ever since I have enrolled in Beacon Academy, I have been pretty distant with the rest of the first years. I'm one of the few who is a Faunus while the rest are humans. I was very very shy during that, until I have met my team."
"Coco. Fox and Yatsuhashi?" Hartmann clarified, in which Velvet nodded.
"Yep. When I met Coco during initiation, I was hesitant to talk to her since I am shy, along with Fox and Yatsuhashi when our team was formed. But after the times I had been with them, I begin to grow closer to them. I begin to communicate a lot with them and they seem to be taking care of me, especially Yatsuhashi. Coco was actually a pretty cool person to be with, and Fox just likes to crack some jokes, but he is still there for me whenever I have some difficulties."
"I see..." Hartmann said understanding what Velvet had been through in the past.
"However, I'm still shy with any of the students except for my team, and you. You're currently the only person not in my team that I am not shy around with." She said while rubbing the back of her head.
"Well, thank you for the talk, Velvet. I feel a bit better now for my enrollment." Hartmann smiled.
"That's what friends are for. Always looking after each other." Velvet said with a sweet smile, which made the German look away blushing a little.
He cleared his throat and picked up the empty tray, not before looking back to the bunny Faunus. "Um, I can stay here and wait for you to finish your breakfast if you want."
"No worries, you go on ahead. Coco and the rest will catch up." She said.
"Okay. Suit yourself then." Hartmann put back the tray and walked out of the cafeteria, leaving Velvet by herself. He felt a little bad for it, but Velvet seemed like she had been in many situations like this, plus her teammates will catch up with her on breakfast.
He made his way back to the dorm and it was almost the time where the first-year students will arrive at the academy. Before Hartmann went to the courtyard, he activated a holo TV with a remote that Ozpin told him how it works.
The Holo-TV activated and it is currently on the news and it shows the Dust till Dawn shop which the entrance was covered by a police line along with the two broken windows. There was also a blood splatter on the floor of the shop.
"Last night, another Robbery had occurred at a dust shop called 'From Dust till dawn.' Four of the robbers were knocked unconscious as the fifth robber's arm is heavily wounded. He is taken to a nearby hospital to recover his injury." The male news reporter said.
Hartmann nervously looked away since it was him that injured the man with his rifle. Hoping they would not found the bullet casing of the KAR98K.
The screen then shows a mug shot of the same Bowler hat man that Hartmann encountered last night with the name 'Roman Torchwick' on the sign he is holding. We expect that the robbery was led by nefarious criminal Roman Torchwick, who continues to evade authorities. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the Vale Police Department." The news reporter said.
"So his name is Roman Torchwick," Hartmann said learning about the Bowler hats name as he continued to watch the News.
"Back to you Lisa." The screen changes to another news reporter, who is a female with lavender hair. Beside her was a picture showing a group of Faunus holding signs saying "WE ARE NOT ANIMALS!" The front was a bunny Faunus just like Velvet but with different ear color.
Lisa then spoke. "Thank you, Cyril. In other news, this Saturday's Faunus Civil Rights protest turned dark when members of the White Fang disrupted the ceremony. The once peaceful organization has now disrupted-"
Her sentence cut off when Hartmann turned off the Holo-TV with a sigh. After learning a bit of history of the Faunus and the White fang, he couldn't help but feel a little bad for both Faunus and the Humans.
For the Faunus, the Humans of this world cause some of them to be this Violent and because of Racism and Discrimination. For Humans, there were most who are innocent in this cause as they respect the Faunus, but that still doesn't give a fact for the White fang to kill them because they do not forget what the Humans did to them in the past.
Eventually, he checked the time as it is where the First-year students will arrive at the academy. Glynda gave him a sleeping bag since he had to sleep in the auditorium with the rest of the first years before initiation and not sleep in his temporary room.
Hartmann walked out from his room and headed to the courtyard. As expected, he saw loads of students coming from a huge airship that just landed near the landing pad.
"That is a big ship.". Hartmann commented while gazing at it.
He then saw the First-year students walking around the courtyard as they were carrying their Hybrid weapons. Everywhere he looked, they are seen either carrying melee weapons or guns that will turn into either of them.
There was one built guy who had a weapon that looks like some sort of a big gun which features a sharp, curved, backward-pointing bayonet on its underside, which he thought it is greatly used as a powerful close-combat weapon.
There was a name on the side named 'Brute shot'. He thought the name is bit-perfect for a weapon like that, he just had to know what type it is. "I think that is a Rifle and Knife... a Knifle?"
He just shrugs and saw more students walking out of the Airship and around the Courtyard. It was getting calm until he saw a commotion happening in the middle. There were two girls and some luggage on the ground. The girl in red was the same girl that stopped the robbery, last night.
The second girl is wearing white clothing with a skirt. Her white hair is tied up to a ponytail braid on the right side and pinned with a silver, icicle-shaped tiara.
Hartmann looked at her and admired how pretty she looked. But out of that thought, the Girl was currently scolding Ruby as it looks like the latter had done something wrong.
So, he decides to walk towards them and asked what's going on. "Good day, ladies. What seems to be the problem here?"
The white-dressed girl look to him with the same scolding look that she gave to Ruby while pointing to her. "This dolt here crash into my luggage which she could have damaged all the dust inside!"
Ruby nervously smiled and is currently holding one of the white-dressed girl's case. She turned to her with the same scolding glare. "Give me that!" She swiped the case out of Ruby's hands.
"How is the dust in your luggage valuable to you?" Hartmann asked.
The girl opens the case revealing a bunch of dust in small capsules. "Because these dusts are mine and purified from the Schnee quarry!"
"Ok?" Hartmann raised his eyebrow a little as Ruby looked genuinely confused. "Uh..."
"What are you two, brain-dead??" The girl took out one of the red dust vials from the case while shutting it. "Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy!"
The girl shook the fire dust vial as some of them begin to come out from the vial as the wind blew them to Ruby's direction. Hartmann understand and nodded to her but she kept her eyes on Ruby, which looked like she was going to sneeze.
"Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself?" She kept scolding Ruby.
The german knew what was going to happen as he tried to speak politely to her of not shaking the vial. "Um..miss. I don't think you should shake the vial that much or else-"
"Or else what??" The white-dressed girl cut off his sentence, which then...
"ACHOO!" Ruby sneezed from the dust which causes an explosion of Fire, lighting and energy.
Hartmann and the girl caught in from the blast as they were covered in black ashes of the explosion. The former coughed from the dust as he responds. "That..."
Ruby smiles nervously at both of them while the girl continued to scold her. "Unbelievable! This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!"
"I'm really, really sorry!" Ruby apologized while embarrassed.
"Ugh, you complete dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?" The girl scolded.
Hartmann decides to step up. "Miss. Perhaps it is best if you leave her alone." Hartmann said trying to stop the scene.
"Why would you think that? And what are you even wearing??" The girl asks referring to Hartmann's tank uniform.
"It is my usual clothing, why is that?" Hartmann asked.
"Well it looks very old and bland. You also don't even look the part for entering this school!" The girl shouted with seemingly no remorse.
Hartmann was taken back like this. He hadn't encountered someone acting like that before. 'Wow, this girl is pretty much mean. Like, Woah. Also, my clothes are bad? If she was in Germany and said something like that, she might get executed or something.' His thoughts said.
"Well for me, I look like I am in par for training in this school, even Ruby here looks perfect aswell," Hartmann said which Ruby smiled at him.
"Oh so you know about this dolt!? Well, this is not your ordinary combat school. It's not just sparring and practice, you know! We're here to fight monsters, so you can stop getting in my way and tell your dolt friend to watch where she is going!"
"Hey! He didn't do anything wrong to you and I said was sorry, Princess!" Ruby said finally fed up about this.
"It's heiress, actually." Another female voice spoke.
Hartmann, Ruby and the White-dressed girl stopped arguing and turned their heads to the direction of the voice. There, they saw a wavy black-haired and fair-skinned girl who wears a black buttoned vest with coattails and a single silver button on the front.
The girl was holding one of the vials from the white girl's case. "Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world." She explained.
The girl named Weiss smiled at her compliment. "Finally! Some recognition!"
Then the black-haired girl continued. "The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners."
Weiss begins to grow angry at her as Ruby chuckled while Hartmann did not expect that while hiding a chuckle from him.
"Wha- How dare- The nerve of... Ugh!" Weiss moved to the black-haired girl as she swiped the dust vial from her hands and started stomping away.
"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Ruby shouted to Weiss which the latter kept walking away while her butlers were carrying her luggage.
"Well that first impression was decent..." Then something clicked under Hartmann's head, which was the white-dressed girl's name. Weiss Schnee? "Hold on...that is a German name for 'White snow'" Hartmann snorted a little since her name is Snow white, but a little amazed that there are people with German names in this world.
"I guess I was right about last night. Hell, there could be a dog that has a German name in this world." Hartmann thoughted.
"So, mind if i-" Hartmann was about to spoke to the Black-haired girl, but when he looked to his right, she was seen walking away. Top of that, he had a good look at her butt. "Is her butt always like that size?" Hartmann thought while observing.
He shook away his thoughts and look back to Ruby, which she already did. "Rough first day, huh?" She asked.
"Ja. By the way, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Erich Hartmann ." He said.
She smiled. "Ruby rose, although you already know about it." She chuckled a bit.
"It's fine." He replied.
From the background, there was a blonde boy who saw all the commotion with Weiss and the Black-haired girl and he is currently still looking at Hartmann and Ruby talking. He took a deep breath and walk to them, which the German spot him.
"Uh...hey, I'm Jaune." The blonde boy greeted while waving at them nervously.
Ruby turned to him and smiled while greeting him back. "Hey, I'm Ruby."
"Hartmann." The German said to him.
Ruby then chuckled a little. "Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?"
"Wait, what?" Hartmann exclaimed.
Short Timeskip
Hartmann, Ruby, and Jaune were walking down the path of the Courtyard as Jaune explain to them that he has motion sickness when aboard in the airship, which Ruby then explains to Hartmann that she and her sister saw him vomit on the airship. She even told him that some of his vomit manage to get on her sister's shoes which she tried to shake it off and Ruby yelling at her to get it away from her.
Hartmann chuckled at that response. "I would be in the same boat as your sister if that happened to me."
"I'm sorry okay, but all I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" Jaune stated.
Ruby laughed a little. "Look, I'm sorry! 'Vomit Boy' was the first thing that came to mind." Hartmann laughed at Jaune's new nickname.
"Oh, yeah? What if I called you Crater Face?" Jaune questioned of Ruby's nickname, as Hartmann laughed at that.
"Hey, that explosion was an accident! Right, Hartmann?" Ruby turned to the German for his opinion.
"Ya, it was an accident, but I am still calling you Crater face." He smiled smugly which she humphed and pouted
"Well, the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue - ladies love it!" Jaune complimented about himself.
"Are you really sure about that?" Hartmann asked.
"Well- Yeah. They will, I-I hope they will. My mom always says that... Never mind."
Hartmann chuckled while Ruby giggled as the trio continue to walk down the courtyard path with a short and awkward silence falling into the three.
Ruby then decides to break the silence."So...I got this thing."
Ruby took out her weapon, which instantly activated to its scythe form as she stabbed the blade part to the ground. Jaune got startled by it, while Hartmann did not get fazed by it since he already saw it before.
"Woah! Is that a scythe?" Jaune asked surprisingly
"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!" Ruby added.
"A what..?" Hartmann asked.
Ruby happily cocks it while smiling. "It's also a gun." She answered.
"Oh, well that looks very cool." Hartmann complimented about her weapon which Jaune agrees with him. "Yeah, that looks very awesome."
Ruby's cheeks light up a bit. "Aww, thank you. So, what do you two got? You first, Jaune!"
"Oh, i-uh...I got this sword." Jaune unsheathed his sword. Ruby 'ooed' at it, while Hartmann just shrugs since it is pretty bland like other swords.
"Yeah, and I got this shield too." He took out the scarab which expands to a shield as it sticks into Jaune's arm. The shield shows what appears to be an emblem at the front.
"So, what do they do?" Ruby asks while touching the shield, which suddenly retracts off from his arm. Jaune tried to catch it before it can fall off the ground until Hartmann manages to grab it for him. "Got it. Wow this thing is heavy."
He gave back the shield to Jaune which the latter quickly thanks him before retracting it back to his arm, putting it back to his belt and answered Ruby's question. "The shield gets smaller, so when I get tired of carrying it, I can just... put it away..."
"But, wouldn't it weigh the same?" Hartmann questioned.
"Yeah, it does..." Jaune said dejectedly.
"Alright..." Ruby then turned to the German. "What about you, Hartmann? What weapon do you have?"
"Well..." Hartmann took out the Kar98k rifle off from his shoulder and showed it to them. "I call this one a KAR98K or just the KAR."
"Is that some sort of a gun?" Jaune asked which Hartmann nodded after.
"I know that gun! You used that last night when you hit that woman during the Robbery. It's like a sniper rifle, except..there's no scope." Ruby stated, looking at the Bolt-action rifle until she saw there was no scope.
"It is sort of like that, I do not use scope very much so I stick with iron sights even in the longer range, but not like sniper range or something." He said.
Ruby chuckled. "I doubt someone can even do that."
"Yeah, imagine a farmer using that type of gun and can get over 500 kills on long range without even using a scope. That sounds too good to be true." Jaune said, jokingly.
The three of them share a small laugh before Ruby continued. "Is that the only weapon you have?"
Hartmann shook his head. "No, I have multiple weapons that are in the storage area.
"Ooh, can't wait to see them!" Ruby said excitedly.
"Yeah but their style is almost the same as my KAR, not as your Sniper-Scythe weapon. I mean look at it! Your weapon is very big and very complex!" He said
Ruby giggled. "Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, so...I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it."
"Wait, you made that??" Hartmann and Jaune asked in unison.
"Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons!" Ruby stated. Didn't you two make yours?"
"Not really, I found it on a box that has everything this thing needs, like the ammo. Although, if I were to make this gun, I would probably customize it a little." Hartmann explained.
Jaune then spoke about his sword. "Mine is just a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war."
"Sounds like a family heirloom to me!" Ruby laughed a little. "Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days."
"Me too, I think that Classic stuff can be a bit more simplified than some, others" Hartmann said, looking at Crescent rose as an example of the others.
"Yeah...the classics." Jaune unsheathed his sword after that.
"Hey, where are we going exactly?" Hartmann asked.
"I don't know, I was following you." Ruby exclaimed as she turned to Jaune.
"I was following both of you." Jaune said.
The trio looked around as the whole Courtyard was empty and they were the only ones outside, meaning that the rest of the first years had went to the amphitheater.
Hartmann sighed. "Ok you two follow me, we are heading to the amphitheater." He gestured to them to follow him.
Ruby and Jaune nodded and obliges as the latter begins to ask another question. "Do you think there might be a directory? Maybe a food court? Some kind of recognizable landmark? Is, uh... Is that a 'no'?"
"That is a no" Hartmann answered while chuckling.
Another Short Timeskip to the Amphitheater
After a few minutes of walking, Hartmann, Ruby, and Jaune had finally made it to the main amphitheater of the academy, which was filled to the brim with the First-years.
"Here we are." Hartmann said as Ruby and Jaune gazed at the room on how huge it was. Ruby then saw a familiar figure waving and calling out to her.
She turned to Jaune and Hartmann. "Oh! Hey, I-I gotta go! I'll see you guys after the ceremony!" She then quickly leaves them.
"Hey! Wait!" Jaune tried to reach her, but Hartmann lowered his arm down and looked to the blonde boy. "Let her be. We will meet her again."
Jaune sighed in defeat. "Yeah you're right...but where am I supposed to find another nice, quirky girl to talk to?!"
"I'm sure you will manage to find one." Hartmann assured.
"I guess...anyway, I'll see you again after this." Jaune said as he walked away from him, which Hartmann waved goodbye.
He then turned to his left and saw a red-haired girl in a ponytail which looked like she was watching the entire conversation with Himself and Jaune. She still got her eyes on the latter when he is walking away. "Hmm..." Hartmann narrowed his eyes to her before walking elsewhere.
He went around the amphitheater while sliding his way from the crowd. He thought about Velvet's idea about socializing after he formed a team with three more students. However, it seemed like he already made 2 friends with Jaune and Ruby, and possibly an enemy with Weiss, but he might get along with her.
Speaking of her, when Hartmann kept sliding through the crowd without looking, he accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh, sorry I-"
Hartmann cut off his own sentence when he noticed the person he bumped into was Weiss, the girl that yelled at Ruby.
Weiss turned back and looked to him. "Hey! You're the one who defended that young age little dolt!" She gave him the same angry look like what she did to Ruby.
Hartmann nervously smiled. "Uh...Hello again. It is nice meeting you here."
Weiss just rolled her eyes. "Like I even care. Which kingdom are you even from?" She asked.
"In Vacuo." Hartmann answered which was not actually true, but he had to so his secret won't be revealed.
Hearing the answer, she harrumphed and avoid contact. "Hmmph, no wonder. You still don't look the part like that dolt."
"You are wearing a dress..." He said while looking at her attire, seemingly confused about her hypocrisy.
"IT'S A COMBAT SKIRT!" Weiss shouted.
He raised both of his arms in defense. "Okay okay, whatever you say. But look, I apologize for what happened back at the courtyard. We can introduce ourselves to make it better, i-if you want?"
Weiss eventually sighed. "Fine. As that black bow girl said, my name is 'Weiss Schnee', heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, but I doubt you even care." She crossed her arms and looked away again.
"W-Well I think you look pretty great, along with your name." Hartmann smiles nervously until he realized what he just said.
'Dammit Hartmann why did you say that??' His thoughts spoke.
Weiss was a little shocked from his response as she turned to him eye-widen. "W-Was that a recognition?" Weiss asked while hiding a little blush.
"N-No, I-I think...maybe. I-I was just..thinking of a compliment about you." Hartmann said and then he blames himself again with his thoughts saying why did he say that again.
Weiss grew irritated a bit and then he stopped him."Enough. I don't know what is your nonsense about me, but I think it's best if you leave me be or-"
"You mean since you ditched me and I exploded??" Weiss got cut off when a familiar girly voice from Ruby was heard and she was a few feet away from them.
Weiss and Hartmann saw Ruby with a tall blonde girl next to her, which Hartmann somehow recognized. The former glared at her before turning to Hartmann and said. "Be back in a minute..."
With that, Weiss walked away from the German as she makes her way to Ruby. Hartmann knew this will not end well so he decides to catch up to her.
With Ruby and Yang
Ruby had told her big sister that she ditched her at the Courtyard with her Friends and told her she exploded at the courtyard. Yang thought the 'Exploded' part means she is very angry at her and had a meltdown.
Ruby tried to clarify her. "No, I literally exploded a hole in front of the school! And there was some fire, and I think some ice...?"
"Are you being sarcastic?" Yang asked while smiling broadly.
Ruby scoffed and explained. "I wish! I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage, and then she yelled at me, and then I sneezed, and then I exploded, and then she yelled at me again, and I felt really, really bad, and I just wanted her to stop yelling at me!" At this point, Weiss was already next to Ruby and heard all of it.
"YOU!" She shouted to her which made Ruby jump on to Yang's arms.
"Oh God, it's happening again!" Ruby held into Yang's arms tightly.
"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!" Weiss scolded.
"Oh my god, you really exploded..." Yang said with a deadpanned look realizing Ruby was telling the truth.
Ruby got down from Yang's arms and spoke to Weiss. "Look, i-it was an accident, okay!" Weiss then holds up a pamphlet titled "DUST for dummies and other Inadequate Individuals" up into Ruby's face. "What's this?" She asked.
"The Schnee Dust Company is not responsible for any injuries or damages sustained while operating a Schnee Dust Company product. Although not mandatory, the Schnee Family highly encourages their customers to read and familiarize themselves with this easy to follow guide to Dust applications and practices in the field." Weiss explained.
After her explanation, Ruby only responded with her eyebrows raised as it looked like she did not even listen. "Uhhh..."
"You really wanna start making things up to me?" Weiss questioned.
"Y-Yeah?"
She then handed Ruby the Pamphlet. "Read this, and don't ever speak to me again."
"Look, uh, it sounds like you two just got off on the wrong foot. Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?" Yang stated.
"Yeah! Great idea, sis!" Ruby exclaimed while putting the pamphlet away. She then turned to Weiss, clearing her throat and holding out her hand. " Hello, Weiss! I'm Ruby! Wanna hang out? We can go shopping for school supplies!"
"Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys, like tall, blond, and scraggly over there!" Weiss said in a seemingly Enthusiastic tone, when she was actually being sarcastic as she pointed to Jaune at the last part, which the latter turned to them, a little confused.
"Wow, really!?!?"
Weiss stood there silently under her glare, still pointing to Jaune at the back as she couldn't believe that the dolt fell for her sarcasm. "No."
Yang then saw someone that was behind Weiss as she begins to smirk. "Y'know, if you do like to talk to cute boys, I say take that Handsome looking person behind you."
Weiss scoff as she slowly turned around. "I don't even know what you are-" She stopped when the person that was behind her is Hartmann. The said person nervously smiled and waved at them. "Hello again."
"What are you doing?? I said to wait there for a minute!" Weiss shouted.
"I was going too when I noticed you were heading to little Ruby over there and I knew what will happen next, so I catch up with you hoping the interaction would not be like the one at the courtyard, and I was wrong." He explained.
"I'm not little..." Ruby pouted and crossed her arms.
"Why do you even defending her, what does she even do to make you act like this?" Weiss asked.
"I mean, she saved me from being robbed." He said, which happened yesterday.
"That's true!" Ruby exclaimed.
"If something bad happens to her, I will gladly repay the favor. If it happens to you too, I will not even hesitate to help you out as well, Heiress."
Weiss just froze while staring at the German. Hartmann noticed her cheeks were a little red as her eyes were seen shaking. "Um...are you okay, miss Schnee."
"No...it's nothing, but thanks for the compliment, you Vacuan dolt." She crossed her arms and look away from him, hiding her blush.
"You have a crush on him already, eh?" Yang said with a smirk that made Ruby giggled and look to the red checked Ice queen.
"SHUT UP YOU TWO!" She shouted at them with a glare and avoided eye contact from anyone.
A few minutes later of standing around awkwardly, the Girls and the German along with the rest of the students draw their attention to the front stage as Ozpin was seen readying the microphone, with Glynda beside him. "I'll...keep this brief."
Ozpin began his speech. "You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction." Some of the students whispered to each other along with Hartmann raising his eyebrow. Ozpin then continued. "You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."
As Ozpin finished his speech, he turned to his right and walked out of the stage. Glynda then stepped forward and spoke to the microphone. "You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed." She informed and walked out of the stage too.
"He seemed kind of...off," Yang said referring to Ozpin as she feels a bit suspicious about him.
Ruby nodded at that and replied. "It's almost like he wasn't even there."
"Whatever it is, it is his own business. For us, we will do what Miss Goodwitch says." Hartmann assured.
"I guess you're right," Weiss said.
"Well, I am going to get some of my belongings in my locker, i will see you fraulein's tonight." Hartmann said as he left.
"Don't know what the last part means but okay!" Ruby exclaimed as she waved to him along with Yang.
Weiss just stood there and watch him go. The Schnee felt something tingly inside and it is a bit rare for her. She doesn't know if that was good or not but she kept focus on the Boy. "I guess he is not that of a dolt at all. But I'm still not liking her..." Weiss glared to Ruby at the last part.
Weiss then felt someone poking her left shoulder as she turned to her left, revealing Jaune with a confident smile. "I'm a natural blond, you know?"
She just rolls her eyes and puts her hand to her face in exasperation.
