Chapter 16
The white faded and I was somewhere different. I sat on a cliff, facing a sky blue void that was spotted with clouds. I wasn't on a cliff. I was on a floating island.
I looked around and there were others. I was on each one. Each island had those blue flowers and those fallen quartz pillars. On one of them, I was sitting and I looked happy. On the other, I was standing with Star and some child. I looked broken and unstable. The child was crying and Star was holding on to my shirt, looking concerned.
Soon knowledge of this place began to fill my head. This is my memory, my decisions, and my future. If I was to jump on one of these islands, I would be going to that future. I heard a quite and a soft female voice say "You're welcome, Lyra." I looked around and no one was there. I looked back out into the endless sky.
Waiting. That all I do. Wait. It can be fun and relaxing. Sometimes it can be boring and tiring. Today it was relaxing.
Just as I was starting to get relaxed, I started to hear bickering. I heard two people yelling at each other.
"Listen, that's not fair! You cheated!" A familiar voice rung in my ears. The Moon Child. "You're the one who took my wife to The Warring Kingdoms!" Star. I sat on the edge doing nothing; listening.
"She's the one who accepted my offer!"
"Because you killed me!"
"You wanted to die!"
"Yeah kill me, not kill my fucking wife and make her into a fucking angel!"
"She wasn't even supposed to make it this far..."
"You're sick. Just let my wife go and I won't cause you any harm."
"Heh, like you could. And your wife is right here! You can have her. You know the rules of this place..."
The sky was beautiful. The sun was going down. A beautiful sunset. Well, it would be perfect if Star wasn't here. I could hear his footsteps come closer to me. I could hear the grass crinkling like the screams of the dying men and women. It sent a chill up my spine to think about it. Was I scared of him?
He sat down behind me and jinxed over so I could see him. "Hi." He was calm and gentle. Why? He tried to touch my hand, but I flick my hand away and looked where my hand used to me. I was shaking. I'm scared of him because I hate him. I looked at him and he has seemed to have frozen. I want to punch him so badly.
I placed my hand back down in a different spot and looked back at the sky with hatred in my heart. "Are you okay, Lyric?" Concern was folded within his voice. He wasn't concerned. I just had one question. "Why?" I was shaking, on the verge of crying and my voice was hoarse and shaky.
"What?" His head moves away from mine, his eyes sticking to me like my sweat had stuck me to the cold cell ground. "Why did you lead me on?" My voice grew colder and louder. Out of everything, I am scared of him. Him. I shut my eye closed tight and my teeth bit down on themselves.
"I don't what you mean. Are you okay?" Tears started to spill out of my eye. I looked at him in the eyes and I gripped the edge of the island. "Yeah, I am fucking fine, Star- ugh," I swiftly got up from the ground and swung my body around. "Nova- whatever your name is. I don't care!" I gripped my head and hair and pulled. Frustration. I let go I looked at him with anger. His eyes were wide, his mouth was slightly open. He was surprised.
Star got up and stumbled towards me. "Ha-How do you know that name?" I looked at him in disbelief. I laughed and held my head with one arm. I looked down and soon the rage within me took ahold of me. "What? You mean the Nova? The name you kept hidden from me? The name everybody calls you by? Even he calls you Nova..." I pointed at the Moon Child. I let go of my head and my smile faded away from my face. My tears had stopped long ago. My breathing my heavy. Yelling is all I can do.
"Uh, um, I bet Mother Core calls you that!"
"Mother Core?"
"As well as Quasar and Big Red! I bet they called you that!"
"Quasar? Big Red?"
"That-that girl who knows everything about you calls you that! Going: "I don't know who Star is, but if you are talkin' about Nova! I know Nova! Everybody. Knows. Nova."" I stepped closer to him. Jabbing my finger at his chest.
"Can we just go home? Lyric, please." He begged. Why would I go home with him? "No. I don't think I want to go home with someone who never loved me. Someone who begged their killer to kill them! Someone who said that they don't care about me or our future! Why would I even give it a thought, you monster?" I walked over to the edge of the island, where it meets another. The one where I was alone on. Where everything was happy and I had nothing to do with Star.
"That wasn't my fault!" He looked hurt. He should be. Tears started pouring out of his eyes. Instead of drops, like normal, it was one continuous stream of water. I had no mercy for him. Not anymore.
I laughed. "I bet that's what you said when people started hating you for starting a war."
"Never talk to me ever again, Nova."
I walk onto the island. They were so close to the main one that there was only a tiny sliver of sky in between the two.
"Wait!" I heard Star yell. I twisted my head back to look at him. His hand was reaching for me, ready to grab me, and he had lunged for me, but he was stuck in midair. A tear ran down his face and terror gleamed in his eyes.
Then there was white. A familiar color, or not. Depends on who you ask. I was too familiar with it.
Soon colors started flashing within my eyes. They went extremely fast and gradually slowed down as time passed. As it got slower and slower, the more I could guess what was happening.
I soon realized that they were my memories.
Here comes a memory!
Star and I were laughing because Lauren had gotten what she deserved. Serves her right!
"Next memory."
I was walking in through the grass with Star. Making my travels to the train.
"Next memory."
I listened as Star messed around with the guitar.
"Next memory."
Star was trying to-
"Next memory."
Star and I
"Next memory!"
Star w-
"Next memory!"
Star couldn't-
"Next memory!"
Me and Star-
"Next memory!"
Star-
"Next memory! Next memory! Next memory!"
I was in my room-
"Next memory!"
This memory had Star in it, like always, but the strange thing about it was that I was never in it. I have never seen this place, but I have seen most of these people.
Star was in a giant white room with tall walls. It wasn't like places I have been in. It was a real white room with doors to the outside and corners. It wasn't a never-ending room. The door put was gigantic.
Star was there, in the middle of the room with hundreds, maybe thousands of people behind him. Most of the thousands of people stood outside of the white room. Near the back of the room, two gigantic chairs that looked to be part of the floor stood up tall. The reach for the ceiling.
Sitting in the two chair were two gigantic people. On the right was a pale man who looked like a general. He wore white and some yellow and some red. His blond hair was spiky and rough. He was the Sun. One the left was a black woman. She sat tall. Jewels painted her face as well as marking that was placed on her lips and arms. She wore a long blue veil and her dress was long and calming to look at. She wore a "jacket" over her dress that was as long as her dress. Two streams of water were pouring out from her eyes. Tears. They weren't drops of tears. It was a single stream of tears that never stopped. She was the Moon.
Star and the people looked like literal ants compared to the Sun and the Moon. 'Nova' looked determined. There was a girl that stood in a fighting stance that was placed right next to him.
"What that hell do you want?" The shouted. She was angry for some unknown reason. "I actually called 250468352737SW here on behalf of my lovely friend the Lunar Moon. We have both agreed-" the Moon then corrected him, "Compromised."
1The Sun looked at her, clearly annoyed. "Compromised on a solution to ensure the safety of my people." Again the Moon butted in. "Our people!" She hissed at the Sun. She was angry and annoyed, just like the Sun. "Nobody cares about your people! They are just asteroids and moons!" The Moon stormed up in a rage. "Excuse me? They are just as important as your people! And hey! I am not the one who was the cause of a war!" She screamed. The Sun got up in a rage as well. "I did not cause this fucking war!" Fire spouted out from him. Both the Moon's and the Sun's breath was heavy. They clearly hated each other.
"Calm down! Whatever you want I'll do. Does that help?" Nova intervened. "What?" The girl next to him was surprised by his response.
The two giants sat down. "We have decided that, for the best of everyone, you will have to make a vow to never fight or hurt anyone. If you do not make the vow, I am afraid that we would have no choice but... to allow the soldiers to continue killing off your people." The Moon was calm and her voice was tame and soothing.
Right after the Moon had finished talking Star had given his answer. "Of course, my Moon. I would be honored to make any vow for you." He bowed and started walking towards the Moon. People started whispering to each other, some yelling at him, others gasped and cried. The girl that was next to him tried to run after him, but she was held back by many of the other people. She was visibly crying.
"No! Nova! You can't do that! You won't be able to protect yourself nor us! What if you make that vow and the soldiers keep on killing us. The Sun promised to keep his soldiers under his watch and yet they are still killing us! If they keep killing us, women, children, the disabled, and the weak, then you won't be able to protect us and they could kill you! Nova, we need you to fight for us! They aren't going to stop because the Sun wants us to die. He wants to keep his power and this is his way to ensure that!" She became angry Star. Star looked back at her, gave her smile, and then continued to walk towards the giantess.
The Moon bent down and placed her hand on the floor to let Star on. As Star got on, she lifted her hand up and brought him to level with eyes. She rose her left hand, keeping her elbow on the chair. Star mimicked her, his elbow near his body.
"Repeat after me." Her voice filled the room.
"I, 250468352737SW, am promised to a life without numbers,"
"I, 250468352737SW, am promised to a life without numbers," star repeated, officially starting the process.
"Without names, nor jobs,"
"Without names, nor jobs,"
"I am promised to a life without fighting, resigning the title of Sun Warrior."
"I am promised to a life without fighting, resigning the title of Sun Warrior." it started to sound like an echo. The only thing holding it from that was the mass of people yelling and screaming for him to back out.
A flash to the next memory... We were back to the same memory that I had received while I was in the Waring Kingdoms. It started after that one had ended.
a knife plunged into his heart as the Moon Child whispered into his ear, "I have wanted to do this for so long." But he wasn't dead, he still had strength. The knife was still in his heart. He stumbled back, almost falling.
His breathing was heavy and uneven and he was coughing up a little bit of blood. His hand was shaking as he brought it up and pointed at the Moon Child. "You have really underestimated my power." He stumbled a bit but kept going. "I am done playing your stupid fucking game! I am done saying what you want to hear!" His arm became limp and swung to his side.
He started walking to the Moon Child. "You want to know what I do care about?" He laughed and smiled. The Moon Child stood still, unfazed. "I care about my family!" He took a swing at Moon Child. "I care about my future!" He another swing, the Moon Child back away from him. "I care about my friends!" Another swing. "I care about my world!" And another. "I care about my blood!" And another. "I care about your blood." At this point, Star was extremely close to the Moon Child. "And the thing I care about most... is Lyric!" He then shoved the Moon Child to the ground. "Because I love Lyra. Yeah, love! Do you know what Love is? A feeling; an emotion. Something I killed thousands for! And yeah, maybe emotions can sometimes be bad, but at least I am not an emotionless monster that only gets joy from watching other people suffer!"
Star got on top of the Moon Child and punched him in the side of the face. Under Star's fist was a smile. The Moon Child was smiling. He then started to laugh and Star looked at his hand mortified. Blood dripped upon it. He hurt someone.
Every memory of my life started reversing. After the memories my whole life reversed back to that fateful night; the night I wished on the one star. Everything was racing past my eyes as the past eleven years I've spent living are erased and everything started to get hazy. Color by color flashed before me faster and faster as they started to meld together. Everything kept going until everything flashed white and that was all I could see.
When I blinked, I expected to see the same white that I have always seen, but that wasn't the case. Instead of seeing white, I instead stood in the middle of a vast land. The ground looked to be harshly layered. It was large sand colored plates covering the ground.
I looked up and all I could see was a face. Her eyes alone covered the sky. It was a woman. Her face was extremely huge! I was an ant to her. She looked at me and a powerful wind rushed to me, knowing me off my feet. I flew up into the air and the wind threw my body back. Half a mile into the air and back down to the cracking ground again.
I hit the colored ground hard. This was no sand. My body hit the ground and threw me back up. The force of hitting the ground while going backward made me slowly spin as I flew throw the air a second time. I rolled on the second impact and my body ached as my movement shadowed away.
I looked around knowing that I was thrown at least a couple miles away from where I once was. I slowly guided myself up. My body protested and ached as I moved my limbs. This was hell.
Soon, the sky was covered in a blank darkness and my vision was clouded by the lack of light. I couldn't see anything. Everything around me started to become smaller and the dark sky wasn't a sky, it was a hand. As everything became smaller and smaller, my body began to press against the hand above me.
I was sitting and my head was in between my legs. The ground that used to be miles long could now only fill the distance to let me sit. The ground was no ground, it was the same as the sky; it was a hand. The hand over the top of me lifted off of me as I looked up.
It was a pale woman with long yellow-blonde hair. Her hair defied gravity and just floated around like there wasn't any. Things floated and orbited her hair, but it didn't seem to bother her. The things that surrounded her hair were tiny dots that I could barely see. Other than that, she looked motherly. Her eyes were big and welcoming.
Something seemed warm about her. She looked at me with a lovely smile and then frowned.
"You really messed up."
