Chapter 7

Wolves & the Wii

Paul Lahote, Embry Call, and Jacob agreed to help Anastasia with her uncontrollable thirst. After they had finished eating (which only took about 5 minutes) Bella left Ana to the tribe's hands and went back home with Reneesme.

Anastasia sat in the back of Jacob's old truck as Paul drove them all into town. Anastasia was thankful for the gloomy day, not that it surprised her. Fork was a town where the sun almost never shined. She opened a window of the car to let the stink of wet dog air.

"I still don't understand, what we are going to do?" Ana said as she saw a sign for town announcing they were only 5 miles away.

"We're going to surround you with humans and see how you do," Embry said nonchalantly. Anastasia frowned.

"That's a horrible idea. I'll end up eating all of them!"

"Not if you gag on our smell. Our scent should overpower the odor of humans. You'll be fine," Paul said. The truck pulled into a parking spot. They stepped out and Anastasia immediately located some humans in a boutique. She was about to take off after them but their appealing smell was soon masked with the horrid smell of the wolves. Anastasia gagged and covered her mouth with her hand. She turned away, trying to concentrate not throwing up whatever substance was inside her.

But when she regained assurance in her body, Anastasia realized Bella's ridiculous plan worked. She let out a soft chuckle before looking at Jacob with a thankful nod.

"You and I need to hang out more."

Bella had been thrilled to hear her plan had worked. Anastasia returned to the Cullen's house with a bouncier attitude than she had left with. She told her story to Bella with glee but was shut down quickly when Jasper and Alice ran into the house. Alice immediately grasped into Ana's face and looked over her frame. Ana tried to get away from the Cullen girl, but Jasper simply stared at her with desperate eyes looking over her as well.

"Why do you reek of dog?" Alice asked dramatically. Anastasia narrowed her eyes.

"I was with the wolves today. They helped me with my self-control," she explained. She managed to push Alice away and glanced over to Jasper.

"Their scent helped me be around humans," she continued but stopped short when she realized she didn't need to explain herself to anyone about who she was with.

"Alice couldn't see you anymore, you just worried me, Ana," Jasper said, "her visions get clouded whenever the wolves get involved."

Anastasia frowned. She nodded slowly, understanding the predicament that she must've placed her mate under. She knew that the wolves, although they helped during the battle against the Volturi, were still the natural enemies of the vampires. And even though Sam tolerated Anastasia, she couldn't say the same for the rest. She didn't know what trouble the Cullen's and the Quileute's got in with one another but she knew it must be their natural instinct.

"They were just helping me," she repeated again. The room fell silent and Alice took it as a sign to leave, with Bella in tow. Jasper sat next to his mate and slowly reached for her hand.

"My deep apologies, Anastasia, I didn't mean to panic or cause you any distress," he whispered. She nodded and let his hand pull her up to her feet. He smiled at her.

"I'm glad the pack is helping you, Ana. I will be sure to express my gratitude to Sam when I see him," Jasper mumbled. Anastasia smiled widely and thought this was the best she could get out of Jasper when it involved the wolves.

The next few days, for at least an hour, Jacob and Embry would take Anastasia out to civilization and help her be around humans. Jasper saw a major improvement in both his mates thirst and her attitude.

"They're helping her. They're ensuring the safety of everyone. They won't hurt her, Jasper," Carlisle comforted his son when he voiced his concern for his mate.

"Anastasia may be new around here, but she has a comforting aura to herself. She'll be fine."

And Jasper had no other choice but to believe his father.

Anastasia stared down at the contraption before her. She tried her hardest to keep up with Emmett but she just blocked his voice out in the end. Her thin fingers couldn't understand the patterns she had to complete in order to do the same thing Emmett was doing. After minutes of him encouraging her to move, she slammed the small contraption to the floor and smashed it with her foot. Emmett stopped and looked at her bewildered.

"What'd you do that for?!"

"I'm not good at this and I don't like it!"

"Nobody's good at the Wii on their first try, you have to keep practicing," Emmett said as he glanced over to the broken Wii controller that had met its untimely swath at the hands of a peeved Anastasia.

The new vampire groaned and flipped over the couch. Her groans became a soft screech as she let out all the pent up energy she was stuck with.

"Jasper, come back, your mate is freaking me out," Emmett said into the phone.

Anastasia glared at him and huffed.

"I'm going out to hunt," she muttered and took off, not giving Emmett a chance to follow. 7 miles into the forest, Ana came to a slow stop. She sighed and rested against a tree. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and relied on only her hearing to find a snack. She heard a babbling river, about two miles south from where she sat. To her east was nothing but small bunnies and squirrels. Anastasia scoffed. If she was going to drink animals, she wouldn't from a pathetic little bunny.

She couldn't find anything interesting to drink so she rose to her feet and ran further into the forest. She didn't even notice the other presence before her until she crashed onto the hard body. They both fell to the floor with a loud thunder-like clap. Anastasia rolled over and frowned when she caught Jasper staring back at her. She broke a small smile and let out a giggle.

"Hi," she said softly. Jasper returned her smile before gently grabbing her hand.

"Emmett told me you broke his Wii controller," he commented. Ana nodded.

"The buttons are just so small and I do not understand the purpose of playing pretend basketball when we can go out and actually do it!" The redhead ranted loudly. Jasper gave a wholehearted laugh before kissing her forehead.

"You are a wonder, sugar," he mumbled into her hair.

"Did you follow me out here? Or do you just randomly run into pretty redheads out in the forest?" Anastasia asked. Jasper shook his head and gestured towards Emmett and Edward, who she hadn't spotted before. She waved to them before looking at Jasper.

"What are you guys doing out here?"

"Hunting. And looking for you. Emmett said you were upset at the Wii..." Edward said, clearly amused. Anastasia rolled her eyes and glared at Emmett.

The four vampires traveled even deeper into the woods. Anastasia was being asked various questions about her life with the Volturi by all the guys until Emmet asked a very serious one.

"Do you have any enemies?"

Edward and Jasper fell silent from their previous boyish ruckus as Anastasia's face twisted into a thoughtful one.

"Probably... I was in one of the most feared and merciless covens in the world, I doubt I don't have a couple enemies out there just waiting to kill me or something." Anastasia said nonchalantly. The boys stared at her with wide eyes but Anastasia didn't even notice. She was soon out of their eyesight as she spotted a rogue deer.

Anastasia finally had a meal.

After Anastasia had drained the deer and smacked her lips, she groaned when she realized she was still thirsty. Jasper took her further into the forest and they both found another deer.

"We should go mountain climbing tomorrow," Jasper suggested as he rubbed deer blood off his mouth. Anastasia smiled at him.

"Are you asking me out on a date, Major Whitlock?"

Jasper smirked.

"If I say yes, will you accept my invitation?"

Anastasia leaned in and placed a soft kiss to his cold cheek.

"I would love to, Jasper."

When Alice found out from Edward that Jasper had a date the following day with his mate, she was quick to pick out an outfit for both of them. Jasper quickly tried to stop her.

"Alice we can't exactly wear fancy clothes, we are going to go mountain climbing," Jasper said but immediately regretted it when he heard a loud gasp from the small vampire.

"It's your first date and you're taking her mountain climbing?!"

"The sun is going to be out tomorrow and it'll be nice. She hasn't seen the sun in so long, I figured she'd be excited..." Jasper explained softly, suddenly doubting his choice of scenery for the date. Alice sighed and shook her head.

"No, you're right. Anastasia would love to see herself in the sun," Alice agreed. Jasper smiled, his confidence rushing back to him and he hurried away, thinking of other things to do to make his mate happy.

Alice let out a happy sigh, knowing Jasper made the right call taking Anastasia on a nice climb and nature walk. The vampire skipped off to find the redhead.

Although she couldn't dress her up like a doll, Alice could still make Anastasia look stunning.
