=>You Really Got a Hold on Me<=

After a long drive, the couple finally reached the hospital Mary was staying in. As Paul parked the car, his gaze wandered off to the building, and his mum's weak appearance came into view.

He started to tear up again, but he didn't want to show it to the woman sitting next to him.

Unfortunately, she took notice of him, and immediately unbuckled her seatbelt and embraced him, though it was a bit uncomfortable.
Paul smiled a bit at this, and hugged her back. He felt lucky to have her by her side, and it made him realize what an idiot he was yesterday.

"I'm sorry again, Kathy."

She pulled away, and her confused face was plain to see.

"Y'know, for acting like a complete ass yesterday.", he added, and Kathy just sighed.

"It's fine, Paul. We've talked about this earlier already."

"More like we made out about it.", he replied, making her blush furiously and punch his arm, Paul chuckling in the process.

"Now, c'mon. Let's go visit your mum.", she said, kissed him on the cheek and hopped out of the car. His cheeks turned a shade of red, and he got out of the vehicle, too. They walked hand-in-hand to the hospital.

As they entered Mary's small room, they were met with 4 familiar casually-dressed lads, and an elderly well-dressed man.

"Oh, hey guys. I didn't know you'd come here.", Paul greeted them, and they all tried to smile at him, but they were all too upset with Mary's condition. Samuel, on the other hand, excused himself out the room. Kathy's eyes followed him, and as he left the room, she sighed.

"John told us. Why didn't you mention anything about your mum, Paul?", George asked, sounding a little bit hurt. Paul scratched the back of his head.

"I'm sorry, Geo. I just... didn't want you all to be a part of my problems. Especially since the band is not involved.", he answered, and George scoffed at this.

"Paul, is that all you think we are? Band mates? I thought you treated us as friends, as mates.", he asked, and Paul bowed his head. John stepped forward and patted George's back.

"Geo, you've got to understand Macca here. He didn't want us to worry about him.", he stated, and George softened, running his hands through his hair.

Stuart and Pete, though still staying silent, approached Paul and hugged him. Paul returned the gesture and thanked them for stopping by.

"No problem, McCartney. Hope your mum gets well soon.", thet said, and with that they waved goodbye to the others and left the room.

John was the next to embrace the younger lad, and Paul reciprocated his actions. They shared a tender and brotherly hug, and Paul shed a tear at the comfort his best mate brought.

"See you, Macca.", he said, then turning to Kathy, he embraced her as well.

"Glad to see you two made up.", he whispered, making Kathy smile. Paul brushed away all feelings of jealousy and just gazed at the duo.
"Well, I'm gonna pull away now. We wouldn't want someone getting all jealous, would we?", he muttered loud enough for Paul to hear, and the latter rolled his eyes at his comment.

"Bye, John.", Kathy waved goodbye to her newfound best friend, as well.

George was the last to stay in the room, and he had his eyes fixed on Mary. It saddened him how vulnerable she seemed.

Back in the day, when their band was just starting, they would practice at Paul's house, and Mary would always spoil them with delicious snacks to chew on. She also welcomed them whenever they wished to have a sleepover, and she was patient with them despite how noisy they were in her house. She treated them like her own sons, in short.

"She's gonna be fine, Geo. My mum's a fighter, y'know.", Paul mused, placing an arm over his shoulders. Geo nodded and sighed.

"I'm sorry for-"

"Don't be, mate. I should've told you sooner.", he cut Geo off.

"Dangit, Macca. Stop being so kind all the time. You're making me even more guilty.", he retorted, and with that, the two friends laughed and embraced.

"Bye, for now. Kathy, see ya around, yea?", he said, looking at Kathy.

"Yea, Geo. See ya. Take care.", she replied. George then left the room.

Paul turned around and faced his mum again. Kathy approached him from the back and wrapped her arms around his waist, swaying them slowly.

"I'm not used to seeing Mum like this. She's always so jolly and lively. Now, she's bedridden.", he spoke.

"She'll get better, Paul. Aunt Mary's a strong woman.", Kathy responded. Paul nodded.

"You're damn right she's strong. When Dad died, I was a mess, but she was the reason I kept going.", he added, and shut his eyes at the memory of his father.

Kathy didn't say anything anymore. Instead, she turned Paul around and kissed him tenderly. It wasn't steamy or passionate, but was just sweet, perfect for the moment.

"I needed that.", he said, once they pulled away, and Kathy smiled.

"I'm happy to be of service.", she responded, and rested her forehead on Paul's. They stayed like that for a while when they heard a knock on the door.

"Hey, guys. I heard about Mary so I came to visit.", a certain redhead spoke, entering the room with flowers in her hand. Kathy and Paul exchanged glances.

"How did you know-"

"Well, my aunt knows Samuel and he told her, and she told me, so yea.", she explained, smiling. Kathy tried her best not to roll her eyes right there and then.

Paul smiled as well and accepted the flowers from Jane. He placed them on the table next to his mum's bed.

Kathy expected her to leave, but to her dismay, she lingered a bit, and sat down. Paul sat across from her, and motioned Kathy to follow.

"So, when are you two getting married?", she asked, getting all bubbly.

"What does it matter to you?", she thought, and Paul, knowing his fianceé, looked at her and smirked.

"Oh, we don't know yet. The date's really not on our minds now as you can see.", he said, and Jane realized what he was talking about.

"Oh, yea, yea, I'm sorry. My bad.", she muttered, face-palming herself.

"Yeah, I know right.", Kathy thought again. Boy, was she getting sassy or what.

Paul then held her hand and caressed the back of it with his thumb as if reassuring him that he was hers, and only hers. That made the lady calm down a bit.

Jane took notice of Paul's actions and slighlty stiffened. Of course, Kathy saw this and raised an eyebrow at her.

"So, Jane, how did you meet my fianceé, Paul?", Kathy spoke, and that caught the redhead off-guard. Paul turned to the side and closed his eyes, smiling at her getting all worked up.

"Oh, well, hmm... we have know each other for quite sometime now, because we were school mates. We got to chat a couple of weeks ago in a coffee shop near my place of work. And Paul, being the gentleman he is, offered me a ride since there were no cabs around.", she stated, looking at Paul upon mentioning his name. He avoided her gaze and also that of the woman sitting next to him.

"Oh, I see. So, I guess that you must be really close back in school, huh?", Kathy further inquired. Paul was suddenly interested in his fingers and fiddled with them.

"No, actually. We barely even talked! I mean, I would see him around school, but we never really spoke.", she replied, and Kathy just nodded her head.

Paul excused himself to get himself bottled waters for them in the small refrigerator in the room. He offered Kathy some, but she declined, so he offered it to Jane instead. The latter accepted the bottled water, making Kathy squint her eyes at her.

"Oh, for the record, Kathy, Paul was one of the heartthrobs at school.", Jane said after sipping some water from the bottle. Kathy raised her eyebrows and looked at the man beside her.

"Mm, this water tastes good. What is this?", he suddenly said, pretending to admire the bottle in his hands.

"Probably mineral, Paulie.", the redhead answered.

"'Paulie'? What the actual f**k?", Kathy thought again. Was this woman flirting or not?

"Heartthrob you say?", Kathy spoke again, and Jane nodded.

"Yea, in fact I had a crush on him back in the days-"

"Wow, look at the time. Don't we have to grab lunch, love?", Paul asked his wife-to-be and desperately trying to change the topic, for the small talk was getting more and more awkward by the minute.

Kathy glanced at her watch and mentally wanted to smack Paul. It was only 10:30 in the morning.

"Yea, well, I best be going, huh? Tell Mary I said hi when she wakes up, yea?", she stated and stood up, grabbing her purse.

"Yea, will do.", Paul said, and guiding her out the room.

"Oh, where are my manners? Bye, you two.", she said, walking towards Kathy and hugged her. Kathy smiled and hugged her back , but Paul knew it was fake.

"Bye.", she said again, this time to Paul, and embraced him. For some reason, Jane hugged him tigther and longer, and Paul was trying hard to contain his flustered face in front of his fianceé, who was watching him intently.

Kathy cleared her throat and Jane pulled away, glancing at Paul one more time and finally left the room.

"Let's go get lunch, hearttrob.", Kathy said sarcastically, emphasizing the last word, making Paul giggle at her comment. He embraced her and she rolled her eyes jokingly.

"Looks like Janie has a crush on you.", she teased, and it was Paul's turn to roll his eyes.

"Can we get over that? That was years ago. ", he groaned. Kathy just snickered at him.

"My husband-to-be was a heartthrob. I'm so lucky.", she mused, pretending to be all dreamy about it. Paul just smirked.

"What can I say? Everybody's trying to be my baby.", he boasted, earning a smack on his arm.

"Ow! I'm not finished.", he said. Kathy looked at him and cocked an eyebrow.

"But baby, it's you.", he cooed, making the lady infront of him blush like crazy.

"Whatever, dork."
