25. The Bad-Ass side of Me.
I'd like to say I wasn't nervous at all. That I was that strong, independent girl that I always admired when getting what she wanted. But even as I stood in front of Logan's front door, my bellies churned inside.
I could have just turned around and left, but the problem was, the part of me that up to a point I walked to his front door feeling all kinds of self-assurance had already pressed the doorbell.
Thank God, Logan didn't keep me waiting long. He opened the door and stood outside like he had seen a ghost. Maybe I was a bloody Ghost. Who knew?
"Amelia?"
"Hi." I gave a single, hard, wave of my hand before I shoved my way past him and entered inside his house. Apparently, my confident side had returned. "We need to talk."
"Um, yeah sure." He followed behind me. "Definitely. But I got to warn you, just hear me out, okay? Its-"
"What the fuck! Amelia. Seriously? What the actual fuck are you doing here again?"
Before Logan could finish whatever he wanted to warn me about, he was interrupted. I couldn't help but throw my hands up when I saw the person who interrupted him. Just like Yesterday, Charlotte was here again.
"Are you freaking kidding me?" I asked Logan.
"No." He raised his hands in front of him and vigorously shook them before he took a step closer to me. "I can explain!"
"Okay, please do." I crossed my hands against my chest. "I would so much like to understand this."
"No, you don't," Charlotte hissed just before she shot forward and put her hands in front of Logan to prevent him. "Amelia, this is the last time I'm gonna tell you this, so listen closely. Get-the-fuck out of here, and I don't ever wanna see your ugly face again."
I probably didn't know this when I walked in front of Logan's front door and into his house, but I think it's been there a while now. The anger. Hearing Charlotte speak to me like that again, just gave it a spark and it boiled deep in my chest like hot lava.
I was angry at myself for letting her walk all over me like she owned me. I was angry at Logan for allowing it to happen this long, and I was angry at the entitled Charlotte for thinking she owned Logan.
She didn't.
He wasn't a property and even if he was, he would have belonged to me. He told me so himself, thank you very much.
For the first time, I allowed my anger to consume me. I needed it If I wanted to come on top of the situation. I shot forward as well, and with as much conviction as I could master, I spat. "No, I'm not leaving. I left yesterday, and now I'm not going anywhere until I get answers."
Charlotte's face turned red with anger. I stood my ground even when her eyes almost spat fire. "Logan? Please tell her to leave. She needs to leave."
"No," he said. "Amelia stays. You, on the other hand, Charlotte, you need to Leave."
If somebody would have dropped a bird's feather right at that moment, I'm sure we would have all heard it. That's how quiet it got. I looked at Logan, Charlotte looked at Logan. Logan looked at Charlotte.
"What?" Both Charlotte and I asked at the same time.
"You heard me! It's been over between us for ages. But you keep showing up here and pretend we are still together. We are not. Not anymore, and I can't keep doing this with you. So please, just leave."
"Oh, come on, Logan. You know you don't mean that."
For somebody who had just been told to leave, Charlotte sure knew how to dig her manipulative little fingers into a guy.
In a few seductive strides, she took his hand on hers, changed her voice into some kind of put-me-to-sleep mode, and whispered into his ear. "I know you still want me, baby."
I was stunned. If this was a movie, I would have gotten me popcorn and sat quietly to enjoy it. The level of affection she bestowed upon him was enough to glue me into my spot. But this was my own movie and I would have been damn if I let it get away from me.
"Actually." I took my own step close to Logan. "I don't think that's the case Charlotte. Just this morning, Logan told me it's me that he wants."
I then turned my attention to Logan. "Isn't that right? You said you couldn't stop thinking about me and you wanted me to give you another chance?" I spread my arms. "Well, here I am."
"Shut up, you little slut," Charlotte boomed. The put-me-to-sleep voice completely gone, replaced with one that would make you want to hightail out of there. "You are lying, and nobody is talking to you."
"She's not lying, Charlotte," Logan interjected.
As if she couldn't believe her ears, Charlotte turned her angry face towards Logan before she let go of his hand and took a step back like she'd been slapped across the face.
Maybe she had.
Maybe that was the first time she'd ever been rejected and knowing Charlotte; I was sure that was the first time.
"Really? You are choosing her over me? Have you lost your God damn mind? What the fuck!" She shouted. Her voice getting higher and higher. Jamming her finger in front of Logan's face, she seethed. "You are going to regret this, Logan Clyde. Do you hear me? You are going to regret this. And you!"
She turned towards me, took a step closer, and smiled.
I gulped.
It took a lot for her to plaster that smile.
"I warned you, Amelia. Nobody crosses me and get away with it. Watch your back. You won't know what hit you." With that, she turned around and slammed the door on her way out.
I could breathe again. I took in a lungful of air to soothe my lungs and calmed my beating heart. I had never stood up for myself like that before to anybody, least of all Charlotte. This was the first time, and it was nerve-wracking but felt good none the less.
Now that that was out of the way. What's next?
I looked at Logan, who was already looking at me. I came here to talk to him, but after that little fiasco, I wasn't sure what the next step should be.
"You want something to drink?" He asked. "Because... I do."
I chuckled. Maybe something to drink was a good conversational starter.
"Water, please."
Logan's side of the lip pulled to the side very subtly as if he wasn't sure whether he could smile openly just yet, before he node his head towards the direction he wanted me to follow. "Come on, this way."
This time, he took me to a different side of the house than the one I was last time. Seeing the set of double doors I was sure led to the room I was last time, brought heat to my face. Thank God this time, Logan walked me into his kitchen.
"Have a seat, I'll get you some water."
I feel like it's a waste of my time to explain how Logan's kitchen looked like, but since it nearly knocked my breath away for a kitchen, I think I will. Even if just vaguely.
Everything looked like it was completely out of a kitchen showroom. No joke. From the matching multi-colored kitchen shelves to the long stool I had just pulled out to sit on. Everything was just posh. The middle table where I had sat on was, I think the highlight of the whole kitchen. White and grand. Designed to give you the illusion you were sitting at a high table in some high-end restaurant.
"So?" He said as he hands me the glass of water.
"So..." I answered. Puckering my lips, I continued. "That happened."
"Yeah, Yeah, it did. Do you believe me now?"
"I think so yeah, but are you? You know, done? I mean, you heard what she said."
Logan slowly walked closer and stopped inches away from me. His proximity got my heart to starts beating faster again, and the fact that he raised his hand and planted his warm palm against my cheek and rub his thumb in cycle didn't help.
"Amelia, I have been done with her, just like I told you before. I like you. I really do!"
"So, what does this mean for us?"
He looked confused by my question, then took a step back.
"Well, what do you want it to mean?"
Wasn't that the question? Because apparently, even I didn't know what that meant for us.
"I don't know," I said. "I mean, we kissed that one time and well, I don't know if you have noticed, but I don't just go around kissing people."
His lips pulled aside on one corner as his eyes danced to my Lips. I don't know when he had moved back closer, or how I had apparently opened up my legs for him to stand between them, but that was the situation, and with each question we threw each other back and forth, we were moving closer and closer to each other's faces.
"I don't think I would call it just a kiss," he said, or maybe whispered. I couldn't tell you for sure. "As I remember, it was a little more than just a kiss."
My eyes fluttered close for a few seconds. "Oh, God, don't remind me. Please, I'm embarrassed."
"Did you like the kiss?" He chuckled just before his eyes danced to my lips again. I don't know what it was about my face, but he seemed to have gotten the answer he was hoping for.
His eyes gleamed.
"So, you did like it."
We were so close. I could see a few freckles under his eyes. He was beautiful.
"You are changing the topic." I managed to get out with my breathing coming in short puffs.
Logan's tip of the tongue flickered out and pulled his lower lip inside his mouth and held the small part of it between his teeth as his eyes once again, glanced at my lips. We were nearly there. Just about to close the gap and lock our lips together. Something I was looking forward to, by the way, when...
"Logan, I'm home!" A woman's voice came from the doorway.
"Shit." Cursing under his breath, he let out a loud sigh before he called back.
"In the kitchen," he said, and moved a bit further away from me.
A beautiful blonde walked into the kitchen, and I was stunned by the resemblance they had with Logan. She had eyes exactly like his. The only difference was that her hair was blonde. The two could pass for twins. The facial features were almost the same, only hers were a lot more round-ish, girly. Her eyes were striking. They would literally make you squirm if she were to decide to look at you for long. Just Like Logan's.
"Oh, hello." Her eyes did a fast swoop of my entire body. "I didn't know you had company, Logan. How are you?" She greeted and stuck her hand out to shake. "I'm Josephine, Logan's sister. Welcome to our home. I have never seen you before."
The girl, Josephine, Logan's sister, asked about five questions in one go and introduced herself on top of that.
"Uh, hi." I stood up and gave her my hand as well. "I'm Amelia," I offered and smiles. "And no, you haven't seen me before."
"Nice to meet you, Amelia. So, you go to school with Logan?"
"Oh my God, Josephine, Lay off." Logan took my hand oh his. "Yes, Amelia goes to school with me."
"What? I'm just trying to make conversation and be polite. I don't meet many of your friends, you know?" She pouted. Turning to me, she asked, "right, Amelia? I'm just making small talks, nothing wrong with it."
"No, it's okay," I said with another big smile. "Don't listen to Logan."
"See, she understands. And by the way, I bought groceries, so the least you can do is say thank you, big sister."
"Yeah, whatever."
There was playfulness between Logan and his sister and I must admit, I liked seeing him like that.
"C'mon Amelia, let's get out of here."
"Nice to meet you, Josephine," I managed to say before Logan could drag me away.
"Nice to meet you too, Amelia." To Logan, she said, "she's beautiful."
"I know." He winked.
I think I died and went to heaven.
"Oh, by the way. We need to discuss work. So, don't take too long, okay?" She said, all the playfulness momentarily gone.
A curt node was all Josephine received before we walked out of the kitchen.
The working part had come as a surprise to me really but came to think of it; if it was only the two of them, they had to be doing something to support themselves right?
Part of me that's usually curious wanted to prod him with more questions. But seeing as we were on the very beginning stage of whatever this was, I swallowed my questions.
"Your sister seemed nice."
"Yeah? Thanks. She would love to hear you say that."
I chuckled. Maybe someday she and I would be able to be friends.
"I... uh," I started. "I think I should get back home. It's been a long day plus; my mom should be back home by now."
"Are you sure you don't want to stay awhile longer?"
"I would, but mom will be worried." I let a small apologetic smile. "But we still haven't finished our conversation, though, so... tomorrow at school?"
"Does that mean you won't be ignoring me anymore? Or telling me to leave you alone?"
"Ha-ha, very funny!" I grinned like an Idiot. "No, I won't. We will talk tomorrow, yeah?"
"Yeah." He squeezed my hand a little bit. "See you tomorrow, Amelia."
"Bye, Logan."
That day had started weird, full of uncertainty, questions, and hurt. But it ended well. I was happy. Genuinely happy for what felt like a long time.
The question was, would it last?
