The begining of a new begining

I never thought it would happen this way. I never expected our lives to take such an odd turn... but it did.

I spent the afternoon with Jay, covered head to toe in paint, coloring his new invention: wings. My brother was determined to get these crazy contraptions to fly, and I was less convinced.

I wiped sweat from my forehead, getting blue paint in my hair. "You sure this thing will work, Jay?" I asked, glancing up at him as he tweaked a few last minute things.

"Of course they will! Do you doubt my creative skills, Y/N?" Jay retorted, not looking up from his work.

I rolled my eyes and stood, as Jay gathered his invention up. "Well I'm off to test it, tell Mom I'll be back in time for supper!" And before I could reply, Jay zipped off.

He returned later that evening as I was helping Dad put away dishes. He burst in the trailer, eyes wide and full of some crazy emotion I couldn't read if you paid me. I gave the last plate to Dad and followed Jay into his room. "Um, gonna leave me in the dark? How'd it go? You aren't limping, so that's better than last time..." I muttered and sat at the edge of his bed. Absentmindedly, I picked up Mr. Kibbles, Jay's stuffed dog he had had since he was little.

"Y/N!Imgoingtobeaninjaandtraintofight! HIYAH!" He said so quickly I was taken aback. He tried to do a martial artsy kick, but ended up just falling on his butt with an "oaf"

"Wait... what?" I blinked in my confusion. Jay was leaving...? To do what?

"Some old guy with a long beard approached me and said I had some lightning that thunders inside me or something and he was going to train me to be a ninja! I'm leaving in the morning."

Poor Mr. Kibbles. I was squishing him angrily while listening to my brother explain. "So... you're leaving me?"

He stopped his hurried packing and looked over at me. "Oh... I didn't think about that... but you'll be okay with Mom and Dad right?"

I stood up, eyes narrowed. "Jay! You just can't leave me here! We're a team, the brother and sister duo, Jay and Y/N...ya know...? You can't just leave!" I practically shouted and he winced, grabbing Mr. Kibbles from my death grip and placing him in the suit case.

"But what if I end up doing some mission and you come along and end up getting hurt? What would I do then? I don't want you hurt, y/n/n." He muttered, his voice unusually slow for being Jay.

"I can take care of myself. But like it or not, I'm coming. We do life together and that's how it's going to stay." I said sternly. Jay just smiled and gave me a quick hug.

We did in fact leave the next morning. Mom and Dad were happy to let us go on some sibling adventure as long as we called every now and then. We followed the old mans directions, and ended up having to climb up a tall mountain to a monetary. Poor Jay, barely made it halfway without barfing. He isn't the most enthusiastic about exercise. Nor the most fit.

The old man opened the door for us once we finally got to the top. He welcomed us with a warm smile and let us inside. "Ah, Jay come in. And who is this? I assume... your sister?"

Jay gasped and threw his hands up to his mouth. "How did you guess?! Sensei, this is my sister, Y/N. She wants to join me." He said with a giddy smile. I meanwhile just rolled my eyes and gave a polite wave. "It is an honor to meet you, Y/N. I am Sensei Wu, teacher of Jay and his two teammates." Wu nodded his head and pointed his staff in the direction of two boys I didn't notice before. Both were in black ninja gis but no masks on. Both Jay and my's age, too. One had darker tan skin with ebony hair matching his dark eyes. Dark and mysterious, I suppose. The other, a bit taller with platinum blonde hair, and a peaceful composure to him. Jay smiled and jumped and gave a wave as the two came over.

"Jay, these are your teammates. Cole," Wu pointed to dark-and-mysterious, "and Zane," then blonde-yet-peaceful.

"It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance." Zane said, not budging a smile.

"Nice to meet ya." Was all Cole said, not smiling either. Oh boy. Did we have to live with a bunch of party poopers?

"I'm Y/N, and this is my brother Jay." I responded with a smile and nodded my head in the direction of Jay. Zane just nodded and Cole just gave a simple flick of the wrist as a wave.

It was going to be a long stay.
