Chapter Eighteen
"I was jealous."
Riley raised an eyebrow causing both to chuckle. The two enjoying a glass of wine in her semi-set up living room. There were still boxes everywhere that needed unpacking or were only half unpacked, but she had a couch, television and coffee table set up and it was enough to be comfortable in there.
"In my defense, I had what I thought were strong feelings for Maya in high school. I thought she was the one and it hurt she didn't return the same feelings when I thought she did and got with Josh the same day she broke up with me. She didn't even wait a day. She broke up with me and got with the guy she told me I had nothing to worry about. She made me into a fucking meme," he defended himself, laughing as he shook his head at memories of his and Maya's relationship and breakup.
Riley laughed, shaking her own head. "She wasn't the only one hooking up with someone the day you two broke up. She had a heated make out session with my uncle but we had sex that night," she reminded him causing him to nod and shrug.
"True," Lucas shrugged.
"And at least you can laugh about it now."
Lucas nodded, "I guess she was right. She knew what she felt."
"If it makes you feel any better, I think most people thought the two wouldn't last but they knew what they felt for each other."
"I'm genuinely happy for Maya. I'm not a fan of Josh but I'm happy she is married and having a baby with the guy she loves even if it's Josh," Lucas said, surprising Riley. "I know now Maya and I weren't meant to be. I liked the status at the time. I liked everyone in school being jealous of what we had or what they thought we had and wanting to be us. I liked everyone thinking we were the dream couple and I didn't want lose her to Josh and I hated when I did. I was young and dumb."
"I think we all have had young and dumb moments."
Lucas nodded, "You got that right," he agreed as a silence came over the two. "I never regretted sleeping with you that night," he admitted quietly.
Riley was taken back by his confession.
"After it happened and we talked I knew you regretted it and you wanted to pretend it never happened so I knew there was no chance for us at the time. You were still in pain over losing Ethan and I was still hurting and wrapped in wanting Maya back."
Riley slowly nodded as the two stared into each other's eyes before Riley looked away clearing her throat. She placed her glass of wine down on her coffee table. She looked back over noticing Lucas still had his glass of wine and was leaning closer to her from his place across from her. "Lucas? what is going on?"
He swirled his glass of wine before taking a huge gulp. "I'm calling off my engagement tomorrow."
Riley's eyes went wide once again she was taken back.
Lucas nodded, smiling, placing his own glass on the coffee table.
"Things changed when Sophie saw Josh again," he sighed. "She became a completely different person. I know it was shocking to see Josh again and he is Hunter's father but she managed to outcasted me in their lives. She no longer wanted me at his games liked planned or me to be the one to do things with Hunter like we planned once we got engaged. I was suppose to become a huge part of Hunter's life and instead she tries everything she can to not include me. I know she wants Hunter to get to know Josh but to outcast me all the way doesn't sit right with me then we had these big plans to get married next spring and she no longer interested in the wedding."
Riley pressed her lips together as she listened to him. She couldn't deny it hurt her hurt hearing Lucas talk about the plans of him playing a role in Sophie and Hunter's lives.
"Then I saw you again."
Riley felt her heart skip a beat as he stared at her.
"Nothing feels right anymore. I'm not in love with her the way I'm suppose to be. I don't want the things I planned with Sophie. I don't want the life Sophie and I planned anymore. You make my mind and heart race like she never did and I realized it may have all been for the best. I'm thankful I didn't make the biggest mistake in my life marrying her before seeing you again."
Riley felt herself blushing and the smile come to her face. She glanced over at the picture she held in her hands not too long ago. "Will come somewhere with me? Tomorrow?"
Lucas narrowed his eyes in.
"I want to go to Ethan's grave."
Lucas took in a deep breath.
Riley gave him a small reassuring smile. "I know it's a weird request especially right now but...I want to go and tell him I'm okay and I'm happy...in every part of my life," she smiled, staring into Lucas's eyes.
Lucas stare at her for a moment before returning her smile. "I'll go."

"We are putting the crib against this wall?"
Maya looked around the room to make sure there was no better spot before nodding. She was happy this was finally happening. The two cleared out for the most part everything they were storing in their daughter's nursery and were now starting to get ready to paint and decorate and get the room ready for their baby girl.
"So we are painting this wall...?"
"A peachy-pink," Maya answered, excitedly, "A light peachy pink."
"With her name in white lettering with Violet flowers next to it?"
Maya nodded, with a huge smile.
"We have a white changing table coming to match the crib the mothers from the team are getting us and we are putting it over there," he said, pointing to the opposite wall.
Maya looked in the direction he pointed before nodding again.
"Do we want to paint that wall the same color or do you want to keep it white or paint it something else?"
Maya closed her eyes, trying to picture her dream before opening her eyes and feeling her tears starting to sting. "I don't know. I didn't see that wall in my dream. I keep trying to picture it. I just see the crib and her name and her little feet."
Josh looked over his shoulder from marking the wall to see his wife becoming upset. "Hey," he eased, walking over to take her in his arms. "It's okay."
"No, I can't think of it-"
"It just means we get to pick out what we think is best, okay?" he said, pulling away to stare into her eyes. "I know you have your heart set on your dream's nursery but think about it. It's just a dream and we get to use the dream as a guide. It doesn't have to be exact. That was the room you saw in your dream. This room your standing is your reality. Those little feet you saw weren't Violet's. She is still in your tummy."
Maya slowly let out her breath but nodded.
Josh could still tell she was still upset. "How about we start with this? Do you want to paint all the walls the same peachy-pink color since all the furniture is white or do you want to only have one peachy-pink wall with all the other walls white?"
Maya stepped back glancing around the room. She didn't understand why this was so hard for her. She always knew what she wanted. This pregnancy definitely made her feel not her normal self but she also knew this was her baby's rooms and she wanted it to be perfect. "I think all of the walls with a light peachy-pink. I think we should get white curtains to match the furniture," she said, pointing to the window. "And a peachy-pink pillow that matches the wall for the rocking chair since it's also white."
"Okay," Josh smiled, happy to see his wife no longer looked upset. "What about the violet color?"
"I want to incorporate it too with some of the décor."
"Okay," Josh nodded, wrapping his arms her from behind, placing a kiss on her cheek. "See, there is nothing to worry about. Our little princess is going to have the perfect nursery."
Maya smiled at the mention of the perfect nursery because it was what she wanted. "She is."
"Our princess is coming," Josh murmured, resting his hands on her stomach. "Just think in like two months we will have a newborn baby in here."
Maya turned to look up at Josh. She gave him a slight nod as she stared at him looked dreamily around their daughter's room. "Are you ready for the battle we are about to enter in tomorrow?"
Josh sighed, wrapping his arms just a little tighter before nodding.
"I am. I know I have you and that's all I need."
I know this chapter was a complete filler but I hope you enjoyed! Please leave a review with your thoughts. Until next timexoxo.
