-Chapter Five-
Albus walked with Scorpius into the Great hall. It was the next day and Scorpius was allowed out of the hospital wing. Albus hadn’t talked to Alice ever since the morning before. In fact, he barely even saw her. She was mostly hanging around Calvin or the other Gryffindor girls.
Starting to eat Albus saw his family’s owl fly in front of him. A letter in his beak. Albus took it and gave the owl a piece of toast before he saw it leave. Scorpius looked at his friend as Albus opened it.
“It’s my father.” Albus answered.
Scorpius nodded and Albus read his father’s hand writing. The letter was a response of the one that he sent last night to his parents telling him what happened.
Dear Albus,
You’re mother, brothers, and I are very glad that you and your friends are safe. We also thank you for telling us what happened. Professor Longbottom also sent us a letter, but it was still good to hear from you first. We thank you for that. Tell Scorpius that I hope that he and his parents are well. I saw Draco yesterday and he was quite pale saying that Astoria was sick. I think he is catching something as well. Your mother and I also hope for our best for Alice. It seems as though that she had quite a scare as well. We will see you after exams. Also Lily hasn’t been answering our letters so can you please tell her that she is welcome to come home whenever she wants and that no matter what our door is always open.
As Albus and Scorpius sat down at the table, Scorpius got out his notepad and wrote down, “why don’t you just make up with Alice?”
Albus shook his head and saw Scorpius’s frown as he motioned his head towards the front of the table. Albus looked and saw Alice pushing some book towards Calvin. She looked upset and he looked angry. Calvin gave her the book again and said something angrily and placed a hard hand on her shoulder and she swayed a little before Calvin walked away. Alice stared at the book before sitting down at the table alone.
Looking back at his friend Albus shook his head.
“I’m ready to punch him in the face.” Albus said.
Scorpius wrote down and gave him the note pad, “I’ll cover for you.”
“I don’t want to get expelled.” Albus answered annoyed.
He looked down at Alice again to see that she was in tears. No one else at the table seemed to notice. Alice opened the book and looked through it while she wiped her eyes. Looking at her Albus could feel his anger rising. He was supposed to be mad at her though and truthfully he still was, but he was more angry at Calvin. No one was going to make his best friend cry and not get a beating for it.
“Wait here.” Albus told Scorpius.
Scorpius looked startled. He did not think that Albus would really do it.
“Wait!” Scorpius whispered in fear.
Albus walked quickly and swiftly to his friend. Alice didn’t seem to notice him. She was sniffling a little. Albus asked her, “are you okay?”
Startled Alice looked up and shut her book. She quickly wiped her eyes and said, “Albus. What? I...I’m fine Albus. Don’t worry about it.”
“Are you kidding me! Does he normally push you like that?!” Albus asked his voice rising.
Scorpius got to his friend as some people started to look at him.
“Albus he did not push me.” Alice said calmly.
“Stop downplaying it Alice! I saw him! Does he normally push you around like that?!” Albus demanded.
“That’s not even funny Albus. No. He doesn’t. He never has.” Alice said.
Albus stared at her.
“You were crying. What did he say?” Albus asked.
“Albus!” Alice said.
“What did he say Alice?” Albus demanded.
She was frozen.
“Albus. It’s nothing.” Alice told him.
“He pushed you. What did he say?” Albus asked.
“He told me that you didn’t want to be friends with me anymore and how you should forget me. He overheard you and Scorpius this morning when you were on your way to the hall. I was crying because maybe it was true. He didn’t push me Albus. He gave me the book that I’ve wanted for my birthday considering it’s next week. He was giving it to me to make me feel better.” Alice said in a hoarse, but cold voice.
Albus was stunned.
“He told me that you told Scorpius that as long as I am around Calvin that I might as well not ever see you again or talk to you because I was stupid and an idiot for going out with him.” Alice whispered.
“He looked angry at you!” Albus defended.
“He wasn’t angry at me! He was angry at you!” Alice said coldly.
Albus was frozen. People were staring at him and Alice said, “he didn’t push me. He was patting my shoulder.”
“You swayed.” Albus said.
“Excuse me if I was out of it.” Alice said coldly.
Albus stared at her.
“I better get my idiotic self out of your face now huh?” Alice said as she picked up the book and hugged it to her chest.
Albus stared after her and Scorpius shook his head at him. He knew that Albus was thinking of going after her, but sparing Alice any further hurt was more important.
So Albus just stood there frozen for a little bit. How was he to know that Calvin actually had a little dignity to give Alice something to make her feel better, but it was the fact that he was listening in on Albus’s conversation and telling Alice about it was what was making his insides boil.
*
It wasn’t until the end of the day when Professor Longbottom called Scorpius and Albus to his office. Though they were surprised they still went to his office. The biggest surprise came of all when Albus opened the door with Scorpius to see that the Head Professor of Ravenclaw house as well as Alice and Calvin with Professor Longbottom. All four of them looked a little angry and Alice turned her back to them after Albus and Scorpius walked inside and shut the door behind them.
The Head of Ravenclaw house stood behind Professor Longbottom and his desk while Professor Longbottom sat behind his desk. She was staring at them as if they said one of the most horrible things that you could ever imagine. Both Calvin and Alice were sitting side by side in old black chairs in front of the desk. Since Alice was at the end there were two other chairs like the others beside Calvin. They were also in front of the desk.
“Please sit boys.” Professor Longbottom told them.
Scorpius sat beside Calvin and Albus sat on the other end beside him.
“What is this about professor?” Albus asked.
“Professor Perks and I are here about the outburst that happened this morning in the Great Hall.” Professor Longbottom answered.
“It seems as though there has been some big accusations about Calvin that you have made against him.” Professor Perks said.
“Professors please. Do you seriously want to get into our drama?” Alice asked in almost a begging voice.
“We will if it involves another student’s safety.” Professor Longbottom told her.
“But he never pushed me. NEVER!” Alice said hoarsely.
Professor Longbottom stared at her.
“Albus it seemed as though this morning that you and Scorpius saw something between Alice and Calvin. Would you like to explain what you saw?” Professor Longbottom suggested.
Albus stared down at Alice’s face to see her glaring at him.
“Don’t add crap either Albus! Just because you don’t like Calvin doesn’t mean that he should get detention or an expulsion for it.” Alice told him sourly.
“Please Alice.” Professor Longbottom said.
“All I saw professor was that Scorpius pointed to them. I saw Calvin give Alice a book and she gave it back to him, but he gave it back to get again. She swayed a little when he put his hand on her shoulder. Calvin looked angry and Alice was crying.” Albus explained.
“Scorpius? You saw this too?” Scorpius nodded, “is that what you saw?”
Scorpius nodded again and Professor Longbottom looked at Calvin.
“Can you explain why you looked angry?” he asked.
“I wasn’t angry at Alice. I was angry at Albus and Scorpius. I overheard them say something earlier and Alice was already upset about a situation between them so I offered Alice her birthday present early.” Calvin answered.
“He told me what they said. He offered me the book I said no and gave it back, but Calvin insisted that I have it. That was why I was upset.” Alice said.
“You never should’ve told her! I can understand the present, but to tell her what we said? Of course she would be upset!” Albus said angrily with his voice yelling.
“She had the right to know!” Calvin yelled.
“Enough!” Professor Perks told them.
All of them became silent. Scorpius and Albus were glaring at Calvin, Calvin was glaring at Albus, and Alice had her face in her hands.
“Miss Break? Can you tell us truthfully that Calvin had never harmed you physically, mentally, or verbally? Or will we need a truth spell?” Professor Perks asked.
Alice took her face out of her hands and stared at the two professors.
“Calvin might not be pleasant to everyone, but he has never harmed me in anyway. Honest.” Alice told them.
“Calvin?” Professor Perks asked.
“I’ve never done anything to her that would harm her.” Calvin answered.
The two professors nodded.
“We’re trusting you with that.” Professor Longbottom said.
“Can we leave?” Calvin asked.
“As long as this is the truth then yes.” Professor Longbottom answered.
After a nod from all of them they left the room. As Calvin quickly walked back to his dorm Alice went to Albus once the door was shut.
“Congratulation. You got your wish.” she told him sourly before turning around and heading to the library.
*
Albus walked into the Gryffindor common room. It was around one in the morning. He had been going to sleep and waking back up all throughout the night until he realized that he needed to relax in front of the fire. It was the morning after the meeting with Professor Longbottom and Professor Perks in Neville’s office. He had barely even seen Alice or Calvin for the rest of the night.
So he was surprised when he saw that there was someone already on the couch in front of the fire staring at it with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders.
Even more of a surprise he recognized the person sitting there as Alice.
“Can’t sleep?” Albus asked after a couple of seconds.
She looked up over her shoulder to see who it was before she then looked back at the fire.
“No.” Alice answered.
“How long have you been here?” Albus asked as he crossed the room.
“Fifteen minutes. Maybe twenty. I couldn’t get to sleep.” Alice answered as Albus sat beside her.
There was then silence between them for a couple of minutes. Both of them were looking at the dancing flames in the fire. After maybe five minutes Albus said, “Alice I’m sorry.”
“I’d hope so.” Alice whispered before Albus looked at her and saw the defeat on her face.
Albus then saw that she must’ve been crying before. Her eyes were still a little red.
“I knew that you guys hated each other. I knew that you both would never get along, but to take it out on me. Albus that’s a different story. You hated it when I hung around Calvin, he wouldn’t mind as long as I was still happy.” Alice explained.
“He was angry when you came back from Hagrid’s.” Albus defended.
“Only because he kind of had a point. If you and a girl shared a room for a night I’d suspect something too.” Alice said, “Also he was worried about me because I hadn’t seen him after he heard what happened.”
They were silent again.
“He broke up with you?” Albus asked.
“I broke up with him.” Alice said and she looked at him, “you’re my friend Albus. I’d rather loose him then you and Scorpius.”
Albus smiled.
“He’s going to hate us even more.” Albus said.
“There’s no doubt about it. I broke up with him a couple of hours before we went to Professor Longbottom’s office. He’ll get over it I’m sure.” Alice said, “what I won’t get over is how much time I’ve spent with him over the year instead of with you and Scorpius. I miss my wing men.”
Albus laughed.
“Your wing men? Excuse me, but I think I’m the leader in this group.” Albus said.
“I don’t know. You seem to follow me wherever I go.” Alice smiled.
Albus felt his ears go pink. He was glad that Alice didn’t notice because of the darkness of the room even though the fire offered little light.
“Have you told Professor Longbottom about what that guy said to you yet?” Albus asked her changing the subject.
Her smiled faded into a frown and she shook her head.
“Maybe we should tell him tomorrow.” Albus suggested.
“Maybe. I don’t know. I’m still kind of studying for the exam. It’s this Friday. So in two days. Hagrid agreed to give everyone an extension to study.” Alice answered, “So I better get some sleep.”
“Sure.” Albus said.
“Night Albus.” Alice told him as she got up, the blanket still wrapped around her.
“Good night.” Albus answered and he watched her go into her room.
