CHAPTER 20
Capricorn, Virgo and Taurus were navigating the labyrinth that was the caves. The hallways had different carvings, but the diminished light made it seem all the same. Dust rose up in a mist around them, and made them feel slightly lightheaded.
It had the smell of a room that hadn't seen sunlight for centuries, and that caused discomfort to them, not only physical but also mental. Besides, the skulls littering the floor did not provide any reassurance.
Taurus tripped twice, Virgo having to catch him before he injured his knees. But they felt a quiet power in the place, the natural energy of something magical. Something which they had come here for.
The energy was coming from far away, so they still had some path to cover. A long one, to be honest, but they were used to it, trekking and everything. Their bodies were adapted for long walks. Perks of being in their position, y'all.
Virgo felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise up as Capricorn sensed another presence in the place. It was a neutral one, in power and moral standing. Apparently. The more he concentrated, the more he realised that it was not a single one, but rather a combination of presences. And that was concerning.
They turned around, forming a back to back combat position, their eyes glowing in retaliation to the perceived threat.
A figure stepped out from the shadows.
"Rest your fire, we seek no battle with you. Rather we have come to make a bargain."
Each of the agents felt their chips get warm. It recognised them as a threat even though Capricorn' s innate energy was saying something else. What could it mean? That they didn't pose a threat to their person but to the organisation they worked for?
"Bargain? I am sorry, but we are not in that mood right now," Taurus said with a scowl, the glow in his eyes getting more pronounced.
The other figure looked the least bothered.
"You know that we do not pose a threat to your person, believe in your instincts," she said, with a smile. Her face was in the shadow, but from what they could see, she had long black hair that seemed to glitter for some reason, adding to the tilting tone in her voice. Her attire was simplistic and blended in with the passers by in this place. Capricorn stiffened as he realised something.
"You were the ones who shot at us, didn't you?" He asked, already placing a hand on Taurus's shoulder who glared, daring her to say the affirmative.
She cocked her head.
"Dear, dear, dear, how would you be knowing that?" She said in a faux surprised tone, "That wasn't the plan, dearies, or was it?"
She took a step forward, a beam of light illuminating her gaunt face. A dangerous smile and a predatory gleam in her eyes reminded Virgo of a wild beast, letting to be free.
Taurus almost charged at her, the smile annoying him more and more.
"Who are you? You aren't one of the Seven Deadly Sins, I realise that," Virgo asked, licking her lips. Capricorn already had his hands full, trying to restrain Taurus.
The one who the question was directed to, raised both her hands, black fire erupting from her fingertips. Her hair fluttered and seemed like a lion's mane, as her eyes took on a golden hue.
Two more figures stepped out from behind her, a girl and a guy. The girl's eyes glowed black and the other one held a black bow and arrow.
"We are the Agents of the Shadow Zodiac," the first girl answered their question, putting them off balance at the off-putting reveal.
"Or have you already chosen death?" The second girl continued, her eyes glowing a dead black, as the Agents felt an acute pressure building up in their heads. Capricorn let go of Taurus, for they had to fight. The uneasiness in him settled as their opponents seemed ready to kill.
Virgo put her hands down, palm facing the ground, ready to act at a moment's notice.
Capricorn took a defensive stance warily, still not liking where things were going. His head was swimming with the pressure on his head. It was incredible and would have knocked anyone out.
However he grit his teeth, as Virgo's hands glowed green. She raised them up, blinded by annoyance.
"I am Shadow Leo," the first girl explained softly as she shifted into a black lionness.
"Well, I wasn't aware that another branch of the Zodiac existed, which also appointed silent killers," Taurus said, as his entire body glowed red. He was annoyed and frustrated. This wasn't going to go down well.
"Well, actually you see, we just used our Agents in different ways. More versatility," the girl with the bow and arrow said, even as she nocked one in her bow, ready to shoot.
"So, for the last time, do you yield?" Shadow Leo snarled, gathering herself into a crouch.
"Lol, nopes," was the reply they received.
This wasn't gonna go down too well.
