HOW DOES ONE ACCIDENTALLY KILL THEIR BEST FRIEND? Answer: ask Celeste De Luca. It's a touchy subject, yes, but for this twisted story to play out as truthfully as it should, it must be told.

Say you find out your best friend and brother are dating. This is a hypothetical situation for you to follow and conclude your own opinions, so pay attention. You catch your best friend and brother in a romantic . . . embrace and this is the first time you have ever heard of their relationship. They lied to you; kept it a secret. They didn't want you to know because they feared how you would react. She knew he was off-limits, and yet she betrayed you. How do you feel? Let's find out how Celeste felt because this situation is no longer hypothetical.

Celeste feels strongly about this so don't accuse her of overreacting. She thinks that uncovering her baby brother Joel's relationship with her closest friend Alice Montgomery was the worst thing that ever happened to her. She had previously had a pretty fucking good life up until then, so she had never really experienced quite so much disappointment before.

They argued for hours. Not Celeste and Joel (siblings suck, but Celeste knew she'd be stuck with him until the day she died) but Celeste and Alice. They just couldn't quite agree.

But the worst day was the day in the woods. Alice had suggested the pair of them talk it out in the most civil way they could: on a Fall stroll. Had Alice known that she would never leave those woods ever again, she probably wouldn't have been so mature about the whole thing . . .

It started off well, the talking. They managed to come to some agreements, but it still didn't stick. It was like it never would again. As the air got chillier, the tension escalated. Their shouts echoed and probably brought animals out of hibernation. But that's all they expected to happen. Just some totally normal, completely expected arguing. Celeste didn't mean to push Alice that hard. She didn't mean for Alice to fall over. She didn't mean for the rock on the ground to be her landing spot . . .

So friends, and foes, that is how you accidentally kill your best friend. That's not the end of the story, but the next part probably shouldn't be a part of your useful guide. Because you should not do what Celeste did next.

Parents always tell their children to own up and take responsibility, right?. They tell their children that they should always hold personal accountability for their actions. Well, maybe Celeste missed that part growing up. Maybe her parents accidentally skimmed over that section on the guide to parenthood. Because Celeste didn't own up to her terrible mistake. She hid the body for no one to ever know.

And that's the way it stayed ─ no one did know what really happened. Alice was reported missing and the whole population of Westrock town set out to find her, with no luck at all. No one suspected Celeste of all people. They knew she and Alice fought, but they would never accuse Celeste of doing something so vulgar.

Because, unfortunately, missing children aren't that much of a rarity of Westrock. A mysterious disappearance has to be at least a once a month occurrence. Some years it's worse, some not so bad. But none the less incredibly tragic. So Celeste thinks she's gotten away with it. The small police force Westrock has to offer has been working for decades trying to solve the teenage crisis. No one knows how they manage to just drop like flies, but it's safe to say the parents of Westrock live in fear for when the time comes. Celeste seems to think Alice's disappearance can go down as just another tragic case to add to the long list.

A month goes by and Alice has a memorial. Alice wasn't necessarily dead, but she might as well be. It was an agonizing yet beautiful memorial that Celeste sat through. And it all goes downhill from there.

Enter Gwen Montgomery ─ the pour grieving sister with slight curious tendencies. Gwen has been investigating these disappearances since a detective workshop the police academy held at the town's only school. She knew it didn't make sense. It wasn't just a coincidence, she told people. No one seemed to believe her though. The people of Westrock live in caution and yet denied the only person who has ever cared the right to share her research. The painful tragedy that was her sister's disappearance topped Gwen off the edge. She couldn't be the only person in all of Westrock that wants to know where the hell these kids go when they drop off of the face of the earth. But Alice didn't drop off the face of the earth, did she, Celeste?

Gwen thinks Celeste would want to help her out. What with her best friend mysteriously going missing and all. Bonding over mourning. And what was Celeste supposed to do? Say no thanks, I'm good? She's sucked into an investigation, she'd rather not even think about. But maybe there's more to it than Celeste is hiding? Recruiting a dozen strangers to help out was bad enough, but finding out that there's more to this crazed town than curious disappearances? Not part of the plan. Celeste had never really put that much thought into it before, but now? She knows hell definitely exists and that there's a spot waiting for her.

We all have our secrets. Let's just hope Celeste is as good as keeping secrets as she is at fake crying . . .

Oh but there's more! A different story, but not quite as different as the surface tells.

Romeo Ebony is always looking for an adventure. That's what his mum taught him. Granted, sometimes an adventure means shoplifting and/or stealing, but his mum always taught him to go looking for adventure, right? Well, what if adventure is what is necessary to live? Is that the same?

Sadly, Romeo will never know the answer to that question, because his mum is dead. May she rest easy. But the issue herein lies the fact that Romeo has since been orphaned. Not technically, but because his dad hasn't cared to play the role of father at all in his seventeen years of life, he might as well take the title orphan and wear it with his chest. Romeo doesn't need his biological dad, nor want anything to do with him. He's a lone wolf! Or at least that's what he tells himself when he cries himself to sleep at night. This is good for him! It's . . . independence.

Working two jobs, and constantly begging your landlord for an extension on your monthly rent is not independence, Romeo.

But just when Romeo has stopped looking for adventure, adventure finds him. In the form of an incredibly cliche treasure map with a giant red X in the middle. No, not literally, but he did get a letter through his letterbox one day basically telling him to go looking for treasure. And treasure equals money. And money equals no debt. And Romeo would love to have no debt.

─ okay so your request was like so amazing, i needed to do it justice. so i hope this is something like what you had in mind? its a tiny bit twisted from your request (like the amount of ocs) but you asked for detail so that's what i was going for! also, this is the first-ever original plot i've done on this app . . .

─ and i apologise for this marathon of a summary (which i'm not even sure i'm that keen on tbh); i had so much to say lmao but i also didn't want to reveal everything because that would spoil it for when it comes to actually reading the fic

─ you put it in your request, but celeste and gwen and the scooby gang (lol) find out that decades ago, the high-status members of westrock made a deal with the devil to ensure that the town thrived in terms of the economy etc. they then vouch to put an end to the teenage sacrifices and end up looking for the same treasure romeo is looking for

─ gwen thinks that alice was a sacrifice made by the leaders of the town when they find out about the deal and celeste lets her think this right until the very end when she comes clean or her secret is revealed

─ you can, by all means, rename the town; if anything westrock is temporary

─ i was thinking there could be a prologue but it's just a news article about alice's disappearance and how it's like the third disapperance that year

─ i thought that maybe the person that gave romeo his letter could be a descendant of one of the original leaders (the people that made the deal with the devil) of the westrock, but this mystery person is a good guy. they sent him the letter because they want him to help save the kids of the town and help end the deal with the devil. i also thought that they sent it to romeo specifically because his absent dad was one of the leaders, but the bad kind. (does this make sense lol?)
