Heartbreak
~Three Days Later || 12:52~
It's been a full week.
One week ago, Jimin started acting differently. He hasn't touched you, fucked you, or kissed you. Anything that ever happens is initiated by you. You're so fucking tired of it. You've given him as much space as humanly possible, but he still hasn't made any moves. Now you're pissed. Very, very pissed. At any moment you feel like you could explode. Not at him, or at anyone, but just at anything. Even a poor wall.
You clench your hands into fists, pacing back and forth in the living room. Jimin should be back any minute from his 'meeting' with 'Chae'. Of course you trust him, and if he was going to meetings with this 'Chae' all the time you wouldn't care, but you do since his attitude has changed. If his attitude was still the same, you wouldn't be suspicious of him at all. Never in a million years would you think that Park Jimin is cheating on you, but after everything that's happened this week, it's the only thing your mind can think of.
If he is cheating, honestly, you're not sure how you'll react. Your faith in love and trust will be shattered completely for the rest of your life. You've been torn up and chewed out throughout your entire childhood, you don't need this now. Jimin was one of the only people you unconditionally trusted, but now? That trust is slowly falling into an abyss. How did you get here? How did this happen? Why is this so damn frustrating?
It feels like you're repeating the same thing over and over and over again. It's a constant cycle. Jimin gets home, he blinks at you, he walks away. You ask what's wrong, he says nothing, you push, he insists nothing's wrong. It genuinely pisses you off that he has kissed you twice in the past week. One of which was on the cheek (which doesn't even count in your mind) and the other was initiated by you. Not to mention he didn't kiss back at first. It took several seconds, and truthfully, he probably only did it so you'd back off.
Before you can fall any deeper into your thoughts, the door opens, and your pacing stops. Jimin strolls in, closing the door behind him and meeting your eyes. Yeah, you haven't really talked all day either. You stare at him, and him back at you. He's only a few feet away, but you're not excited. You're not excited to see him. Your smile never comes, neither do the butterflies. The love doesn't come either.
"Hi," Jimin says, slightly puzzled.
"Can we talk?" you ask somewhat calmly. Somewhat. He knows he's not getting out of it, so he sighs and nods. He starts to move to sit, but you shake your head. "It'll only take a second." Jimin looks unconvinced, but you give him a soft smile. "I don't want to give you space anymore. Can I please sleep in our bed again?"
He takes a moment. "Sure."
"Thank you," you whisper back. He lingers, clearly expecting you to say something more. "That's it, that's all I wanted to say."
"You sure?" he asks.
Your lips form a sad smile. "I'm sure," you murmur. Jimin treks away, going right past you. "Oh um, are you going out later today?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Can you get dog food? We're almost out."
"Sure." He keeps going, charging up the stairs. So, that's it, huh? You're losing him. You're losing your boyfriend. The one you were supposed to marry.
The realization hits you full force and your stomach lurches, causing you to fall to the floor. Your knees hit the ground, your throat burning and your tongue dry. "Fuck... fuck," you say, tears burning at your eyes but they don't fall. You're more shocked than depressed. The tears want to fall, but they won't. Rushed footsteps come back, and you glance up in time to see Jimin rushing towards you.
Your hand is placed over your stomach, your hands clammy, and your skin covered with sweat. "What happened?" he asks, kneeling in front of you.
"N-Nothing, I'm fine," you say, leaning back. You let out a small breath, rubbing your pained stomach.
"Clearly not. Are you on your period? Cramps?"
You look at him reluctantly. "I shouldn't be."
"Was it something you ate-"
"No Jimin, it wasn't something I ate."
In classic Jimin fashion, he blinks. "Then wha-"
"It was the fucking heartbreak," you say, your voice cracking.
Jimin stalls, rubbing his lips together. "Y/N..."
"When do you go out again today?" you ask.
"In a few hours."
"Okay." The two of you just stare for a few moments, unsure of what to say. "Why?" you whisper.
He leans back. "What?"
"Why?"
"Why what?"
You scoff, shaking your head. "You're so fucking stupid."
"Excuse me-"
"Not you," you say in a grunt, biting your tongue for a moment. "I'm talking to myself. I'm a fucking idiot for thinking someone like you could love someone like me. For thinking I was good enough for you. For thinking I deserved happiness. For thinking that you were going to propose to me soon. I really thought that sometime this week we were going to be kissing under the stars, a new ring on my finger."
You break off for a moment, shaking your head once again. "I thought I could trust you. I thought we were soulmates." Your lower lip quivers as you gain the courage to meet his eyes. "I thought you loved me." Jimin sits there, completely dumbfounded. Somehow you manage to stand and walk right past him. "Baby's outside, please bring her in." You grab your keys and your phone from off the counter.
"Where are you going?" he asks.
You let your tears fall. "Away from you."
You slam the door shut behind you, poking your tongue against your cheek and shoving your hands into your pockets. The grass feels dry today. The wind doesn't feel refreshing and the sun feels hotter than normal. For the first time since you got into your relationship with him, you feel so insecure. Sure, you're on the verge of breaking up so that might have something to do with it, but still. Are you not pretty enough? Witty enough? Smart enough? Kind enough? He certainly is. How could someone like him end up with someone like you?
You're a no one from Ganymede. Abused and tormented every day. Maybe your father had a point. Maybe he was right. You're no true L/N. You're nothing. The sun seems to shy away from you today as you make your way to Jimin's Porsche. There's one last thing you need to check. Luckily he leaves the doors unlocked (forgetful bastard), so when you approach the driver's side, the car opens for you.
You plop down inside, letting out a small breath and glancing up at the visor. He doesn't know that you know, but there's a picture of you taped on it. He never showed you out of embarrassment, but you figured it out one day while you were cleaning his car. With a shaky hand, you reach up, your fingers brushing over the material. You're not ready, but you pull the thing down anyway. Your tears and breath halt for a moment, your heart nearly jumping at the sight.
It's still there. Your picture is still there.
~14:31~
Baekhyun replays the newsfeed over and over again, his eyes dark. So Mars and Earth are back at war, huh? Well, not quite. Pretty damn close though. An Earth ship was blown up, and so was a Mars ship. Mars will retaliate any day now. Baekhyun knows what he needs to do. He's not going to run away from this. He refuses to. Not when his crew needs him. Baekhyun lets out a small sigh, turning off the TV and standing.
His parents are in the kitchen, reheating the food they had yesterday and talking to each other. Baekhyun takes a small breath before walking over. They notice and look up as he sits down, placing his hands on the counter. "Are you okay?" his mom asks.
Baekhyun goes to nod, but he stops himself. "Earth and Mars, you saw the news."
His parents nod in-sync. "You have to go back, don't you?" his father asks, but it sounds more like a statement.
Baekhyun feels a lump form in his throat. He wants to say no. He wants to stay and relax with the two people he's finally made amends with. However, he knows he'll feel bad if he stays. California may be nice, but Binghamton is his home. Earth is finally his home, and if it's under attack, he has to defend it. This isn't something he can sweep under the rug. For once, he's going to step up and actually do what he can to save lives.
"Yeah, I do," Baekhyun whispers, setting his jaw. "I can't leave my crew. I love them too much to let them go through this alone. Plus, I miss my co-pilot."
"The L/N girl, right?"
Baekhyun nods. "The L/N girl."
"Daughter of a war hero who fought for Mars. Which side do you think she'll choose?" his father asks.
Baekhyun's jaw drops. "You can't be serious."
"What? There is a sense of loyalty to the side you were born into. There's no shame in that. I didn't mean it as an insult, just a question."
Baekhyun frowns. "Of course she'll side with Earth. She hated her father."
"She hated her own father?" his mom asks.
"How could she not? He abused her." At that, both his parents go quiet.
"Oh," is all his mom says. Baekhyun contains his anger, deciding to take a deep breath instead. He may have made amends with his parents, but he can't have them thinking he's working with a traitor.
"Y/N is loyal to us til' her last breath. I need you to know that." They start to nod, but Baekhyun keeps talking. "Her, Jimin, Jungkook, and I haven't always seen eye to eye, but they're still my family. And quite frankly, I think what they're doing is right. Y/N was always the one who saved lives no matter what. I'm sure you know she led Ganymede's military during the war." They hum. "She did that because she wanted to save lives, because she knew no one else would do it. Ganymede was in shambles, but she came in and picked it back up."
Baekhyun breaks off with a sigh. "I just need you to trust her like you trust me. I know she'll stay on our side, there's no doubt there. She hated her father more than anyone. She hated him so much that she was the one who killed him."
"I thought she wanted to save liv-"
"She does," Baekhyun interrupts, glancing at his father. "That man almost took hers and was a traitor. He traded Jungkook over to the Belt to save his own ass, and now Jungkook is dying because of it. My point is that Y/N's really strong. She's my friend: my family. She's precious to me, and I'm asking you to trust my decisions."
They take a moment, then smile. "If my son defends someone that much, I have no doubt they're worth it," his mom says.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you. I just don't want anything bad to happen to you," his father adds, frowning.
"It's okay dad, I get it. She is the daughter of a Martian war hero, you're right. But she's not him. She's the farthest away from that family you can get. She'll be loyal. I know she will." After another few seconds of silence, Baekhyun averts his eyes. "I'll visit. I can promise that."
"If you don't, we definitely will," his mom says in a teasing tone.
He can't help the smile that spreads across his lips. "I know mom, I know. I look forward to showing you around our mansion and introducing you to my friends."
"Your family," his father corrects. Baekhyun feels a sparkle go off in his eyes.
"Yeah... my family." Baekhyun takes a moment, then clears his throat. "I'll pack tonight, leave first thing tomorrow. How bout that? We get one more day together?"
"We'd like that," his dad says.
"Now come on, give us a group hug," his mom says, making Baekhyun chuckle. He rounds the counter, walking in to their embrace. He closes his eyes, accepting their warmth.
"Thank you."
"For what?" his mom asks with a laugh.
"For being so supportive." They nod in acknowledgement, holding him tighter. "Hey guys?" They hum. Baekhyun can't stop his dumb smile. "I love you."
~The Next Day || 3:04~
You close the fridge door, shaking your head as you sigh. Earlier you told Jimin you wanted to sleep in bed, but you changed your mind. Facing him sounded like torture, so you stayed downstairs. Of course you couldn't sleep very well, so here you are. Drinking banana milk. It reminds you of Jungkook, so that makes you happy. It's the only thing keeping you happy right now.
When you got back today, you didn't talk to Jimin. He tried to say something to you, but you ignored him and locked yourself in the downstairs bathroom. The only thing you've really been doing today was trying not to cry. Baby is near you, she always is. She's curled up on the floor, her eyes closed. You feel bad for disturbing her when you came over here, but now she looks like she's peacefully asleep again.
With a small sigh, you finish your banana milk. The glass goes in the dishwasher and you're ready to try and sleep, but something stops you. You don't want to sleep. Regardless, you shut off the small light in the kitchen and decide to lean against the counter. Maybe your thoughts can save you here. Actually, that will probably be worse. Right now you should be cuddling with the love of your life. But no. No, you're not.
You found something of his. When you were digging in your closet the other day, you found one of his jackets. In the pocket, you found something beautiful. A box. You keep it with you now. Maybe he'll look for it, maybe he won't. Deep down you hope he will, but you haven't seen him looking for it yet. Your heart did a leap when you saw what it was, but not like that matters now. Not when he's acting like this.
You're not sure what to do. Should you break up with him? The thought makes your skin go cold. Your body freezes. Should you? He isn't acting like your boyfriend right now. He's acting like an acquaintance. No, lower than that: a stranger. How the hell are you supposed to live with that? It's not like he's even being friendly, he's just being so damn cold. What the fuck happened to your baby? What happened to your Mochi?
A small creak sounds off in the corner of the room, making your ears perk up. You turn towards the sound, and your heart stops. Jimin is at the end of the stairs, wincing at the noise. He's... dressed up. He has shoes on, a suit, his comm strapped around his wrist. Jimin doesn't notice you standing in the dark kitchen; his eyes are focused on the other side of the room. The living room. He's looking at the couch to check if you're sleeping. He heads towards the door, about to open it when you grit your teeth.
"Where the fuck are you going at three o'clock in the fucking morning?" you ask. Your voice is so low you barely recognize it. His hand falls away from the knob, his body turning to face you. You turn on the light to the kitchen, glaring at him with pain written all over your face. Your eyes show your heart shattering in half.
"Emergency meeting. Something about a move Mars made."
"At three in the morning?" you whisper, a single tear dropping down your face. So he's cheating, isn't he?
"Yeah. I don't have much time, she said to be there as fast as-"
"So no one else got told about it?" you ask in disbelief.
"Huh?"
"I've been up all night, my comm right by me. I didn't get anything. You're telling me she just wants to see you? An emergency meeting and she just wants to see you?"
"I'm the Captain."
"What about Jungkook?" you say.
"Well, she didn't say anything about Jungkook."
"Let him go for you."
His eyes widen. "Y/N you can't be serious-"
"I'm serious, Jimin."
He clenches his jaw. "This is an emergency meeting. Earth could be under attack soon and you're telling me-"
You bang your hands on the table, making Baby wake up. "I'm supposed to be your girlfriend!" you yell. He stands there, not speaking. "I'm supposed to be the one who's cuddling you at night, who's talking to you all day, who's right by your side for everything. I'm supposed to be the one who sees every single side of you. Not anyone else!"
"Y/N, for the last fucking time, nothing has changed-"
"Then why?!" you interrupt. He stays quiet. Your tears shamelessly fall. "Eight days, Jimin. It's been eight fucking days since you've fucked me, kissed me, hugged me, fuck even talked to me! I haven't heard a single pet name, I haven't felt your skin for more than a few seconds, you give me a sentence at most as an answer!" You round the counter, keeping your glare on him. "Look me in the eyes and tell me nothing's changed."
His eyes meet yours, but he can't bring himself to say it. Your heart cracks. "Exactly," you whisper. The two of you stare for a few moments, your heart slowly starting to break. "Why does it feel like this?" you ask.
"Like what?" he whisper-asks.
"You're standing a few feet away, but you feel so foreign. You feel like you're a thousand miles away," you say, more tears falling.
He stares for a few more moments, then, he sighs. "I'm sorry, I don't have time for this." He whips around to leave, but you can't take it. You do the unthinkable, but in the moment, it's the only thing you can do.
You take off your promise ring and throw it on the ground.
Jimin jumps at the sound of the metal hitting the floor. He shifts back around, noticing the ring uselessly rolling to a stop against the kitchen counter. For a moment, just a moment, his eyes blossom with heartbreak. Then, he glances back up at you, and all that sadness is gone. You stare at him with so much anger and hate you swear you might kill him. In this moment, it feels like the right thing to do.
"If you walk out that door, we're done," you say. His eyes bulge and his jaw drops open. "I will be out of your life forever. You'll never see me again." You take off your locket, tossing it to the side. That also lands with a loud 'thunk', Jimin wincing at it. "I mean it. You can beg and plead and call me with all the 'I'm sorry's you want. I will never look at you ever again." Jimin's breath seems to get caught in his throat. "I don't just mean I'll be out of your life, Jimin. I'll be out of everyone's."
"Wha... what?" he asks in a mutter.
"I'll leave the crew too." His eyes stay wide open, his body completely turning to you. For a beat, it looks like he wants to speak, but his lips never move. After a few seconds of silence, you scoff. "Is this seriously this hard of a decision for you? You seriously have to think about this?" For another few seconds, the two of you stare at each other. Then, he lets out a long sigh. His legs move, and your heart shatters as the door closes behind him.
You stare at the space Jimin just was in disbelief. He left. He actually left. When asked to choose between you and Chae, he chose her. The disbelief is still in your system, shock in your eyes. You're half expecting him to walk through that door realizing the mistake he made, but after a few minutes of waiting, you realize he isn't. When the realization hits you, you fall to your knees and scream.
You and Jimin just broke up.
The tears that fall burn your eyes, your lungs contracting as they beg for oxygen. Baby rushes over to you, trying to get you to stand, but you can't even move. Your heart snaps in half, your entire body shivering as you cry out his name. Jimin's gone. He left you. You broke up; you just broke up. "No. No no no," you whisper, your hands clawing at the floor. You cry for several minutes, your eyes narrowing as you glare up at the door.
"Her," you say, your blood threatening to burst out of your skin. You wobble to your feet, your adrenaline hitting its peek as your mind brings up her face. Park Chaeyoung. This isn't Jimin. There's no way this is Jimin. Your Jimin would never give up on you. Your Jimin would never let this happen. The anger blurs your vision as you prepare to move. "Help me pack, Baby. We're going to sneak into the mansion. And in the morning?" You look down at her. "We're going to confront the leader of Earth."
~9:32~
You check your appearance in the mirror, making sure you don't look like you haven't slept. You didn't get a lick of sleep last night, especially not after the break up. However, you're still determined. Jimin is still in there, you know it. You saw the heartbreak in his eyes when you threw the promise ring and the locket. There has to be a remnant of your Mochi in there. There just has to be... cause you don't know what you'll do if there isn't.
With one last breath, you storm out of your room, leaving Baby in there. The others don't even know you're here yet. You snuck in the mansion in the middle of the night. You didn't even tell Jungkook.
Despite the tiredness you feel, you zip down the stairs. Speak of the devil, Jungkook is standing in the doorway to the kitchen, but the sound of footsteps makes him snap around. His eyes widen upon seeing you and your devastated state.
"Y/N, baby? What happened?" he asks, rushing up to you. Taehyung is of course right behind, eyeing you with worry. You step back, needing space. You open your mouth to speak, but you can't say those three horrible, painful words. Jungkook's eyes pick up on your hesitation. "You can tell us, love. Whatever it is."
"I want to, Jungkook. I just... fuck, this is so hard to say." You bite on your lower lip so hard you swear you taste blood. "W-We..." You cut off to take a deep breath. "We broke up."
The two tremble, even taking a step back. Within an instant, Jungkook's enhancements start to glow. "I'll kill him," he says, his enhancements going all the way to black.
"Jungkook... Koo, wait." You place your hands on his shoulders, shaking away his concerns. "Bunny, wait." He softens at your use of the name, the enhancements fading back to red.
"I'm going to fucking kill him, Y/N. I'm sorry. I don't care that he's our Captain. I... I don't even care that he's my best friend. No one hurts you like this. Especially not Jimin."
You can't disagree, so you glance over at Taehyung. To your surprise, he's crying. "Tae," you say, your voice cracking.
"I thought he was a good guy," Tae mutters. "Why couldn't he just tell you what happened?" Tae adds, just as confused as you.
"I don't know, Tae. I wish I knew." You back away from Jungkook, wiping your tears away. "I'm... I'm so sorry guys."
"Huh? Why are you sorry?"
"I'm leaving the crew."
"Y/N, no, please wait-"
"I can't be in this crew anymore. I can't. I'm not saying I won't be around you guys. I just can't be part of the missions. I don't have the strength." You take another breath. "I'm sorry, I need some air." You dash away before they can protest. They call your name a few times, but you zoom out of the mansion. Your legs take you all the way down the street, your tears dried at this point.
The Federal Building. That's where you need to go. You pull your phone out of your back pocket and look up the directions. You're running on pure adrenaline right now, sprinting down the seemingly endless sidewalks.
Chaeyoung. She has to be behind all of this. There's no other explanation. Jimin didn't tell you shit. He didn't say he was cheating, or that he loved you, or even that he wanted to break up. He just kept saying 'nothing's wrong'. Obviously something's wrong. You're not that stupid. You can connect the dots here. The last day he acted the same was when he went to see Chaeyoung.
With a grunt, you find a cab, jumping in and telling the driver to go to the building. He does, and as soon as you pull up, your heart beats faster. You gulp, paying the man through your phone before departing the vehicle and approaching the giant building. The place looks intimidating. The massive doors call to you, so you answer them. Your shaky legs take you over to them, your sweaty hand reaching out and grabbing the handle.
The door opens, and you step through. You're immediately greeted by workers who ask to search you, and you oblige. "How can we help you?" one of the two asks, raising a brow.
"I need to see Park Chaeyoung."
They seem almost offended that you just said that. "She's busy. In a meeting."
"It's an emergency. I'm Y/N L/N, part of the Moonchild."
"We know who you are," the other says almost dismissively.
You hold your ground, clenching your jaw. "I need to see her, and I'm not leaving until I do."
They laugh at your words. "Excuse me?" the first one asks, smirking.
"You heard me," you say with an eye roll. You dash away from them, the two turning in surprise as you run. Your legs carry you into the enormous lobby as the two chase you. How the hell are you going to escape two guards and find her office? Oh well, take a turn and pray.
You dart down the area, glancing around and spotting all the signs. You see a sign for the headmaster's office and assume that must be where she is. So, you turn down the proper hallway. At the very end of it is a single wooden door. With a pant, you go closer to it. The guards follow, yelling for you to stop. However, you don't listen. You burst through the door, facing the new scenery. The girl sitting at her desk looks up with her eyes wide. But she's not alone.
Park Jimin is right next to her.
