30 | COLLISION COURSE

NAYARA SMILED AT Peter as he walked her back to her apartment. "I'm sorry I couldn't go to your birthday party. I had Avenger stuff to get to." Peter said, apologizing for the tenth time that afternoon.

"I'm dating a superhero. I know you got to go and safe the world. I'm not expecting you to be always here. I know people need you Peter." Nayara told him as she opened the door to her apartment. Peter tripped on something on the floor. "Something didn't catch your spidey senses?" Nayara asked him.

"You got a present." Peter her. "And it isn't from me." Peter added. Nayara took it, frowning at the cursive handwriting.

The girl walked to the couch and opened it. She frowned when she saw the ancient book. It looked like it was taken out of a fairy tale. She opened the lock and watched at the emblems in the book. "What type of language is this?" Nayara asked to herself.

"An ancient Asgardian dialect." Somebody said behind her. Nayara jumped out of the couch and looked at Peter.

"What did you just say?" Nayara asked him.

"I didn't say anything." Peter told her. Nayara sighed, looking how pages fell out of the book. Peter helped her get some of them. "This are in English." Peter told her.

Nayara looked at the handwriting. Translation, she thought. Sirens started to blast near her home, signaling trouble. "Go spidey-boy. I would figure this out." Nayara told him, sending him an encouraging smile. Peter walked to her and gave her a small peck on the cheek.

"I will be back to help you, I promise." He said before running out of her apartment.

"I'm surprised you got scared." Loki said, coming into view.

"You freaked me out. I bet pranking Thor is pretty awesome with those powers." Nayara said, smiling at Loki. "What is this?" She asked him.

He walked to where she was sitting on the floor. "Magic." He told her.

"You gave me an actual magic book, written in ancient latin. You are kidding?" Nayara asked him.

"No. That is why I took the time to write down the translations for you." Loki told her, nodding towards the papers.

"I have no magic whatsoever." Nayara told him. "So, what do I need a wand or something? A hat maybe?" Nayara asked him.

Loki rolled his eyes at her. "You are very humorous today, Nayara." Loki told her. "Well, I thought it would be good to-" He stopped midsentence, hearing somebody come from where he was.

"Somebody at the door or something?" Nayara asked him. Loki's face turned blank. "Are you being possessed? I didn't know gods could get possessed." Nayara told him, quickly standing up.

"Bye. Don't tell anyone about this." Loki said before he disappeared in thin hair. Nayara frowned, picking up the pieces of paper quickly.

Nayara's phone buzzed loudly. "Hello?" Nayara asked the caller.

"It's Steve. I'm running late for practice. I'm just warning you, okay? We are taking longer than expected." Steve said through the phone. Then she heard an explosion and a woman scream.

"Are you okay?" Nayara asked, hearing the screams of a man. "Alright, return to your duty. I will be here fine." Nayara told Steve, before hanging up the phone call.

. . .

Nayara walked her motorcycle near the training room since Steve had told her that he was going to teach her how to use it. However, she stopped when she saw the man being carried inside the Avenger's tower.

The dark blonde hair, and the piercing blue eyes. Loki? Nayara thought watching him being taken away. "Nayara?" Somebody said behind her, making her jump. Steve walked up to her, taking off his helmet.

"I'm sorry if I came too early or-" She said in thought.

However, Steve was quickly to cut him off. "No you are fine." Steve told her. He noticed her looking ahead where Loki was being carried.

"Where are they taking him?" Nayara asked him.

"Some highly level prison in our basement. Thor can't take him to Asgard, he keeps escaping." Steve told her.

"Who is he?" Nayara asked him, even though she knew him.

"Loki, Thor's brother." Steve told her. "It took forever to find him though. He changed his hair and outfit, but we caught him. He was out a couple of days ago being some wrapping paper for god knows what." Steve told her. Nayara's face paled slightly. "Don't worry, I'm not letting him get to you." Steve told her.

Nayara smiled back at him, nodding at him. She was afraid that Loki would spill everything to the Avengers. How she had helped him. How she had talked to him and not given him to the authorities. She could lie and say she didn't knew him, but she knew that it would be her word against hers.

"I would meet you in the training room, okay?" Steve told her. Nayara hummed a response.

"Hulk, friend!" A booming voice said. Nayara looked over her shoulder at Hulk. She waved a hello to him.

"Hulk, I want to talk to Bruce!" Tony yelled in annoyance. Some mean SHIELD agent had nagged Bruce too far and now he had transformed itself again into the Hulk. Tony could not handled him much longer.

"Hulk. Help friend." Hulk said, running towards Nayara. Nayara held tightly the motorcycle.

"Well, thank you, Hulk." Nayara told him, smiling at him.

"How come he talks to you and not me?" Tony asked her.

"Well, because I'm trying to talk to Hulk and not Bruce. If you want to talk to Bruce and say it to him he would get mad." Nayara said tiredly to Tony.

"I'm tired of talking to an idiot who no one likes." Tony snapped, his patience loosing. Hulk looked sadly down.

"You are not an idiot, big guy." Nayara whispered to him. She patted his hand. "And I like you. You are funny and nice and can smash stuff. Smash is good." Nayara said to him. Hulk took the hold of the motorcycle. "Could you help me carry it to the training rooms? It would be very appreciated." Nayara asked him.

Hulk nodded and followed her around. "I can't believe I'm doing this but teach me." Tony told her.

"First, say you are sorry." Nayara instructed him. Tony sighed, turning to Hulk. "Then you give him a compliment, and tell him how you are thankful for his help. That he should be proud he is the strongest Avenger, even though he isn't. It's Carol. Now, go on." Nayara whispered to Tony.

Tony coughed and stood in front of Hulk. "Hulk...I'm-wait I got something stuck in my throat." Tony said, coughing slightly. "I'm sorry, about what I said. You are very appreciated here. You are the strongest Avenger." Tony told him.

The three of them reached one of the training room. Hulk put down Nayara's motorcycle and turned to Tony. "No Banner. Just Hulk." Hulk answered him.

"How do I solve this?" Tony asked her.

Nayara shrugged. "You are the genius. I'm just a kid, right?" Nayara told him, pointing at him. She sat down on the motorcycle. "See how does this even work?" Nayara asked, looking at it. She pulled one of the side bars and started going at full speed.

Steve enter the training room and ran to Nayara. He stopped the motorcycle quickly when it came near him. "You couldn't wait, huh?" Steve asked her. He instructed her to get off and she did. She put her bag on the floor and looked at Steve.

. . .

After an hour of teaching Nayara how to use the motorcycle, Steve was allowing her to figure it out herself. Nayara passed near him in circles. Just as she was about to go near the door, it opened reveling a tall woman with bright red hair.

Nayara pressed the break and she fell out of the motorcycle. The woman looked down at her with a frown. Her blood ran cold. "Natasha?" Steve called out, looking at her with a confused face.

"You should be more careful with that." The assassin told Nayara. She gulped in response and stood up. "Thor is losing his patience with his brother. His brother is pissed that he got caught just trying to buy wrapping paper. According to him he was buying it for someone's birthday. I don't think he is lying." Natasha said.

Nayara put herself in the motorcycle, listening to the conversation. She passed the two of them a couple of times. Although on her last try, Natasha had move near the motorcycle and Nayara swirled out of the way. The red head, in the process of avoiding the vehicle, fell backwards when she tripped on Nayara's backpack.

"I'm sorry." Nayara said, turning the motorcycle off. She walked to the said assassin and tried to help her up.

"Who are you?" Natasha asked her.

"Nayara." Nayara said sheepishly. She looked at Steve with a small panicked face. "You didn't get hurt, did you?" Nayara asked her. The woman shook her head. Natasha stood up, looking down at the brunette before looking at Steve.

"She is yours?" Natasha asked Steve.

"Yep." Steve told her. Nayara knelt down picking up the stuff that had fallen off the bag. Natasha was helping her, but the spy suddenly stopped when she saw the corners of the ancient book that had been given to Nayara. She opened it and looked at the words of it.

Nayara looked at the woman who had the book with her. She tried to take it away from her grasp but the spy had already stood up and was making her way out of the room. "Hey, give it back. That's mine." Nayara yelled running after her.

"Where do you find this?" Natasha asked her.

"It was given to me." Nayara told her, trying to reach it but the assassin was quicker than her. "Please, could you give it back." Nayara yelled.

The red head, picked up her phone. "Tony could you bring Thor to the main floor. I have something that he needs to see." Natasha told him.

Nayara sighed, before pushing Natasha off. The assassin had fallen and Nayara was quicker than her. She picked up the book and held it close to her chest. "Natasha, it's just a book." Steve told the assassin who had cornered the girl into the wall.

"Yeah? Why don't you take a look at it?" Natasha told him.

"It was given to me. I don't know who did it." Nayara told Steve, looking at him in the eyes. He saw how her eyes had shifted. "I don't know what it even says. It is not in English." Nayara added.

"Can I see?" Steve asked her. Nayara sighed, letting him see the content of the book. Steve frowned when he opened the book.

"I have no idea what it even says. It was given to me. I arrived home and it was at the front of my house. It said it was for me." Nayara explained to Steve. "Steve you got to believe me." Nayara added.

"I believe you." Steve told her. Before he handed the book back to the girl Natasha had taken it away and was walking away with it towards the god of thunder. Nayara's face paled slightly watching how she passed the book to him.

"It belongs to Steve's kid. It doesn't look like it something from here." Natasha told Thor. "And I already knew that Loki must have had somebody else to help him around." Natasha said to him.

Thor chuckled. "A kid helping Loki? He doesn't work with other people." Thor told her. He opened the book and the grin fell of his face. "This is from Asgard. It is an ancient dialect that only a few people can speak. Why would a kid have a spell book?" Thor said in thought. He raised his eyes at the girl was had unconsciously gone behind Steve.

The God of Thunder walked to her. "Where did you found this?" Thor asked her.

"It was left at the door of my home. I don't know how it got there. It was just there as a present for me." Nayara told Thor. "I don't even understand what it says." Nayara quickly added, repeating the same words she had told the other two Avengers. "I don't want to get into any trouble. I haven't done anything with it." Nayara said looking at Thor and Steve with pure panic in her eyes.

"You wouldn't get into trouble." Steve told her, putting a hand on her shoulder.

"Loki had a helper. He must have had. If not, he wouldn't have been able to hide for long." Natasha told her. "We suspected it was a woman." Natasha said, looking at the girl. "Or it could have been a girl." She added.

"I haven't done nothing." Nayara yelled back at the assassin. She was held back by Steve. She looked at Steve dead in the eyes. "You have my word that I'm have done nothing." Nayara said to Steve. Nayara reminded quiet, hoping that Loki would not spill the whole truth.

. . .

Thor opened the door to Loki's cell. "Oh, look who is here. My dear brother." Loki said, smirking at him. Thor threw the book at Loki and he cut it with ease. For a mere second the blonde brother saw some recognition and panic in his brother's eyes. "Where did you find this?" Loki asked him, hiding his silent panic with a confident smirk.

"Natasha found it in a kid's bag." Thor told him. "Have you been recruiting children for your own war? Are you using them to take over the world?" Thor asked him.

Loki chuckled at him. "I have no idea what you are talking about." Loki told him, looking at him with a tired look. "I have better things to do and better plans to take over Asgard. Ones that do not involve children. You want to know why? Because one thing that I learn was the innocence can be taken in a snap of a finger. Children could become monsters when they are mistreated or lied to. Father knew that well." Loki said, looking at Thor. "I'm not going to involve an innocent girl into all of this." Loki added.

This time it was Thor's turn to smirk. "I didn't say it was a girl." Thor told him. He removed the book from his hands. Loki froze, knowing that he had messed up. "You said it. You called yourself god of mischief and still you couldn't come up with a quick lie to defend yourself." Thor told him before starting to woke out.

"Wait." Loki yelled at him. Thor looked at his brother from over his shoulder. "Yeah, I'm the God of Mischief. She...she didn't know about me. I lied to her. I lied to her face. She had no idea who I was in reality. It wasn't her fault. She is just a kid, Thor. Just like me and you were at one point." Loki said, hoping that Nayara would not be caught in all of this. She was never supposed to.

. . .

Nayara sat down in the Avenger's living room. "Why can't she leave?" Steve asked Natasha, crossing his arms over his chest.

"It's the protocol, Steve." Natasha told him. "And I get that she is your friend. That you are her mentor and that you care for her as if she was your own, but the fact still remains that she is a suspect." Natasha reminded Steve.

"Well, maybe she had nothing to do with Loki's doing. Maybe she was framed. She had suffered from that before with Sharon." Steve told Natasha.

"And that is being taken care of by SHIELD." Natasha replied.

Steve sighed, passing a hand threw his hair. "Really? Because there has not been any sight of her since graduation and I can't sleep at night knowing she out there ready to put a bullet through Nayara's head." Steve told Natasha.

"Maybe she deceived you." Natasha said in thought.

"What?" Steve scoffed.

"Maybe Sharon was right all along-" Steve cut her off before she could say anything more.

"She isn't a traitor nor a killer. Whose side are you on, Natasha?" Steve asked her.

"SHIELD's and the law." Natasha told Steve. "And she better be ready because if she got involved with a criminal then she would be in big trouble." Natasha reminded Steve. "Are you willing to fight SHIELD just for a kid?" Natasha asked him.

Steve remained silent as he looked at Nayara who was sitting on the couch by herself almost about to cry. "Are you?" Natasha asked her.

"I'm willing to protect the innocent, and she is one of them." Steve answered Natasha, not giving an exact answer. Although, Natasha had heard enough to know what was Steve's side.

"Lady Lilly." Thor called out, entering the room. Steve quickly walked to where the two where. "Do you know this man?" Thor asked her, showing her a picture of Loki with his original armor.

"No." Nayara answered, shaking her head.

"She is lying." Natasha pointed out. She knelt in front of her, looking at her. "Do you know this man?" Natasha asked her, showing her the most recent photo of Loki.

"I don't know him." Nayara answered her. "I-I do know the man that Thor had shown me. I have seen footage of him where he invaded the earth, but I don't personally know him at all." Nayara told him.

"Natasha, would you leave Thor and I alone? Please." Steve asked her.

Natasha sighed walking toward the exist. "I hope you know what is the right choice, Rogers." Natasha said before leaving.

Steve sat down next to Nayara. "Just tell us the truth, Nayara. I promise you wouldn't get into trouble." Steve told her, giving her his word.

"You promise?" Nayara asked him.

Steve nodded at her. "You have my word." Steve told her.

"And mine." Thor told her. Nayara took a deep breath as she let her tears fall down her face. "Don't cry, lady Lilly. It wouldn't be the first time Loki has deceived somebody. Do not worry." Thor told her.

"I don't personally know him. I-I found his about to die in an alley. I-I c-couldn't possibly let somebody die. It's not on my ethics code and...I wouldn't be able to live with the guilt if I knew I could have done something to help somebody else. I knew it was him. I knew it was Loki because of the Asgard green armor. I helped him. I took him to my home and helped him heal. Then he left. I don't know what has been up to until now." Nayara confessed, not able to look at neither of them. "It was about saving a life. You got to understand." Nayara said, looking at Thor. "I got that book. I was arriving back home with Peter and it was there. I opened it but I couldn't read what it said inside. It wasn't a languge I knew." Nayara quickly added.

Steve stood up from the seat. "When did you find him wounded?" Steve asked her. Nayara remained quiet. "Nayara, where did you find him?" Steve asked her.

Nayara looked up to him with tearful eyes. "You would hate me if I answered." Nayara told Steve. She cried quietly shaking her head. "Last year. I went to school and when he came back he was gone." Nayara answered him.

"You knew from the start that it was him." Steve said in thought, unable to look at Nayara in the eyes. "Why didn't you come to us? You knew what would have happened, don't you?" Steve asked her. Then he saw it, the same look he had seen the girl do last year every time she spoke to him about something personal. The same look she did when she was going to keep things to herself.

Nayara could not speak. She saw the shameful and disappointed look of Steve. It bought even more tears to her eyes. "Steve-" She started, but the hero had walked out of the room. Nayara shook her head, holding back more tears. She looked at Thor. "I didn't say anything to him. I just couldn't help somebody die. It doesn't matter if it was a villain or not. I just couldn't. You have to believe me." Nayara told Thor, giving him a pleading look.

"I believe you." Thor told her with honesty. "Loki has a thing for playing into people's mind." Thor told her.

"I just helped him heal and that was it. I know bad from good. I swear." Nayara told Thor.

"I believe you" Thor told her.

"C-could I-I go home?" Nayara asked holding back a sob. Thor nodded at her.

"I gave you my word that you wouldn't get in any trouble. It wasn't your fault what happened. You deceived to help someone out, despite knowing who he was. That is alright. It hard to know what to do in that situation." Thor told her. Nayara nodded at him.

"You can keep it. I don't want it." Nayara said, looking at the thing with hateful look. Nayara gave one last look at Thor before leaving the tower. She could not get rid of the look that Steve had given her. She had failed him. When she was outside, she took one last look at the Avenger's tower before running to take the train. It was about to rain and Nayara was not ready to face the storm that was coming.

. . .

Nayara closed the door behind her. Droplets of water were falling down her face. The cold water was mixed with her own tears. Barry turned around when he heard the door open. "Nayara, where have you been? You didn't answer any of our calls." Barry told her, glad to see her. Then he saw it, the red eyes and the pain.

Nayara looked down at the floor, letting some tears fall to the floor. She looked up again to Barry, shaking her head. "I'm sorry." She said before kicked her shoes off. "I'm really sorry. I keep failing people." She told him before let out a painful sob.

Barry stood up from the couch and walked up the her. He ran out and returned quickly with a tower. Kara flew down the stairs, hearing the cries. Her heart broke when she saw it was Nayara.

Barry hugged her, while she cried. "I'm sorry. I'm getting all your clothes wet." Nayara whispered to him.

Barry let her to the couch where she took a seat and covered her face with her hands. "I'm sorry." She said again.

"What are you sorry for?" Barry asked her, concerned laced on his voice. He had no idea why the girl who was talking constantly with a smile on her face was suddenly hit with such sorrow.

"For all of this." Nayara told him.

"What happened?" Kara asked her, sitting on the opposite side of her.

"Steve hates me. He found out about Loki. He found out I saved him. I couldn't lie to him, Kara. I am tired of lying." Nayara told them. "All because I saved a villain's life. If it was Joker, fine. Let him for all the arm he had caused to Barbara Gordon...but Loki...he...it wasn't his fault his father didn't tell him about where he was originally. He just wants the throne of Asgard!" Nayara told them. "But I saved his life. I knew there would be repercussions, so I remained silent. But even after helping him I didn't told the Avengers he was on earth. I didn't sell him out." Nayara whispered to them. "And the look Steve gave me. I wanted the earth to swallow me so badly." Nayara said, shaking her head. Kara returned with another tower, passing it to Nayara so she could dry her face.

Barry gave a sad look to Kara. "Let's get you all dried up before you catch a cold, alright?" Kara told her, leading her away. "Everything would be alright." Kara told her, holding her tight next to her. "You got me and Barry by your side. We are going to solve this together as a team." Kara whispered to Nayara.

. . .

Nayara sniffed as she rested her head on Kara's shoulder. "So...Tarzan, or Beauty and the Beast?" Barry asked her, trying to pick a movie to cheer her up. Nayara shrugged. Barry sighed, taking a seat next to Nayara. "He doesn't hate you." Barry told the girl, referring to Steve.

"No, he gave me a worst look. A disappointed slash mad look. It was that one that parents give you when they are so disappointed at their kid. I even think he was almost a shame of me, Barry." Nayara told him, as she sat up.

"That look that makes you feel so guilty and mad at yourself." Barry added, knowing what she meant. Nayara sniffed, her eyes becoming teary.

"I admire him so much, Barry. He helped me, he never questioned me when I was helping him. He trusted me, and now he doesn't." Nayara told Barry. "And I'm so afraid that this would bounce back to Emma." Nayara added.

"I'm not going to let that happen." Barry told her. "I'm not going to let you be put in jail or anything like that. Not while I'm still here. I am more than willing to take you to my world if I need to." Barry told her. "Plus, you can meet Batman." Barry added, hoping to cheer up the girl.

Nayara smiled at him. "You would, huh?" She asked him. Barry nodded at her.

"Yep, and I will present you to Iris, and Cisco and the rest of Team Flash." Barry added.

"Are you familiar with Team Arrow?" Nayara asked him.

Barry chuckled, nodding at her. "Team Arrow as well." Barry told her. Nayara smiled at him. "See that's the smile." Barry told her. "Everything would work out fine." Barry quickly added. Nayara nodded back him.

"Thanks, Barry." Nayara said as Barry returned the smile.
