25 | FLASH DOESN'T RUN OUT OF TIME (FOR THE MOST PART)

NAYARA WAS SITTING anxiously in the couch in the small house that the Frost had up state New York. A knock broke the silence that was in the room. Kara walked to the door quickly, seeing Steve Rogers.

The blonde entered, holding his shield at hand. He looked at Nayara, who was sitting in the couch. "Nobody knew she had escaped." Steve told Nayara, then he looked at Kara. He frowned, thinking that he had seen her somewhere else. Well, he had after all. She had just saved Nayara as Supergirl.

Nayara looked up from her spot, seeing him frown. "Steve, this is my friend Kara." Nayara said, presenting the two. She stood up from her sit and left the house to speak with Steve.

Steve and Kara walked out. Steve followed Nayara as they walked away from the house. "Who was that?" Steve asked Nayara.

"Kara. I told you." Nayara answered, looking at him as she walked. She followed the small walk, which she knew lead to a small river.

Steve sighed, following the young girl. "I don't think it is safe for you to just have random friend right after almost being killed." Steve said to her. "You have never mentioned her before or been with her." Steve added to her.

"She is no trouble." Nayara said as she kicked a rock on the floor. "You have been awfully quiet." Nayara added.

"I'm thinking." Steve answered.

"What are you thinking about, Cap?" Nayara asked him curiously.

Steve Rogers looked ahead, not answering. He was thinking of his answer, and Nayara noticed this. Wow, the tables have turned. Nayara thought. Last year she was the one trying select her words carefully.

Steve sighed, shaking his head. He did want the girl to panic or be worried about what could happen in the future, which he knew it will happened if he told her the words that the HYDRA agent said to him.

Steve glanced at Nayara. "Who was that person who helped you?" He asked her.

Nayara held back a laugh. "Don't go trying to change the topic, Steve." Nayara replied.

"I'm not changing the topic." Steve argued, but Nayara knew him well. He knew the girl did not believed him. "You shouldn't be worrying about it." Steve told her.

"So...I should then." Nayara said, looking ahead where the clearing was. She could hear the river already flow down.

"I just told you, you don't have to." Steve corrected her.

"Which makes me a little concern, because when you say that it means that there is something bigger about to come." Nayara told Steve. "And that silence tells me it is true, then. So, are you going to tell me what it is?" Nayara asked him. She stopped at the edge of the river, looking at him with a small smile.

Steve looked down at the floor. "You are too young to worry about these types of things." Steve answered her. Nayara nodded at him.

"But we are partners, right? We look after each other. I'm supposed to know if my mentor is in deep trouble." Nayara answered him. "How I'm going to protect you if you don't tell me what is going on. It must be something more than what is happening with Sharon." Nayara added.

Nayara sat down next to the river. She looked at the water before lifting her hand a little, making the water lift up into the air. Steve remained quiet, listening to how she controlled the liquid. He was hoping that what he had seen was a mere hallucination. Mainly for the sake of Nayara's.

A polite silence settled between the two. "It was about you." Steve told her. Nayara looked at him from over her shoulder. "The man that helping Sharon is dead." Steve said to her.

"Did he bite into cyanate or something? I mean, that is a classic for German spies." Nayara told him.

"No. He just shut off." Steve answered.

"Maybe he had an implant inside of him." Nayara answered.

Steve had a sour look on his face. "They say that they know your little secret. They know about your powers. He said that Senator Kelly, and even SHIELD will pay greatly for that information. A war is coming and they have the upper side." Steve told Nayara. Nayara's face paled, and the water dropped back to the lake.

Nayara turned her head around, looking at her. "That's what I didn't want you to worry about it." Steve told her.

"Do you still work for SHIELD? For black-ops missions and that kind of stuff?" Nayara asked him, not looking at him.

"I do sometimes." Steve answered.

"Don't trust them." Nayara said. "They are inside SHIELD. That might explain why nobody knew how Sharon got out of jail." Nayara added.

"Nayara-" Steve started, but she cut him off.

"No. You have to be careful, Steve. You got to. I wouldn't be telling you this if it wasn't necessary." Nayara explained, not looking at him in the eye.

Steve sighed, taking a seat next to the girl. Nayara looked at him, confused on his actions. He looked ahead, passing the shield to Nayara. Nayara took a hold of it and smiled.

Nayara looked at him again after a couple of minutes of silence passed. "I'm not going let them get to you." Steve told her.

"SHIELD is just like any other agency. They have their own agenda. They own view on mutants...They can't know. I'm sorry I let you into this." Nayara said, looking at the shield.

"It was my decision to keep it a secret." Steve told her.

"Senator Kelly is against mutants. Great supporter of the Sentinel Program, which was design to persecute mutants of all ages. It's a security program, or at least that is what they call themselves. I doubt it though." Nayara told Steve. "You have kids, who are born with these gifts. It is not their fault, nor their parents. I mean, you don't power over it. At all. When I saw I had it I was excited. It was a dream come true, you know. Maybe I could help people with it." Nayara said, smiling at him.

"What do the Sentinels do exactly?" Steve asked her.

"They detect and stop anybody with the x-gene, or that could create it. The x-gene is the genetic mutation that gives you the powers." Nayara answered him. "So, you have mutants being affected, and even normal people who if they have a child, their child will have the x-gene." Nayara explained to him.

"You have it." Steve said.

"Apparently." Nayara told him. Her look soon died down.

"I swear to you, Nayara Lilly that I will do everything on my power and beyond to stop anybody who will want sell you out. You don't have to worry about it." Steve said to her. "Partners, right? We look after each other." Steve told her, repeating her own words.

"You are my favorite." Nayara said to him.

Steve's phone buzzed, signaling a call from SHIELD. "I have to go. Will you be alright, staying with that girl?" Steve asked her, concerned laced in his voice. He did not know Kara, and with everything that had happened, he was being extremely cautious at who came near Nayara.

"She is a good person, Steve. I will trust her with my life." Nayara told him with a small smile. Steve sighed, nodding at her. "Where are you going?" Nayara asked him.

"SHIELD called." Steve told her. He saw Nayara's eyes died down a little.

"Just be careful, okay?" Nayara asked him. The blonde nodded back. "You will need this." Nayara said, handling him the shield.

"I promise." Steve told her. "I will walk you back." Steve said. Both of them stood up and walked back to the cabin. "Just please call if you need anything." Steve told him.

"I promise." Nayara said, before waving a small goodbye. Nayara sighed, shaking her head.

She entered the house, seeing Kara knocking over some books. Nayara held back a laugh. "Where you eavesdropping?" Nayara asked, even if she knew the correct answer. Kara shrugged at her.

Kara passed Nayara her phone. "It was buzzing. It said Pepper Potts was calling." Kara told Nayara. She sighed, looking at whether to call the woman or not.  Kara saw the hesitation in her face. "Just because Tony said the words he said doesn't mean he will do it. Plus, if he tries anything I will punch him." Kara told Nayara.

Nayara laughed and nodded. "Thank you." Nayara said. She walked to the couch and dialed the phone number. In a matter of mere seconds Pepper Potts had already accepted the call. "Good afternoon, Pepper." Nayara said looking at Kara with a slight panic.

The blonde took a seat next to her. "Hi, Nayara. I called because I wanted to congratulate you on your graduation. Also to check on you, I saw the news and after scowling at Tony for god knows how long he finally told me the reason why you left." Pepper told her.

"W-which is?" Nayara stuttered out.

Pepper fixed her desk, holding her phone in the other hand. "I think it is very considered of you to care for my safety. However, I am woman who can take care of herself. Now that that has been answered I don't believe there is no reason for you not to come over again." Pepper told her.

"But-" Nayara started but she was cut off by Pepper.

"No 'buts' Nayara Lilly. Take a good chance at fate and accept this offer." Pepper told her. "I know you are doubting not for your qualities, but because you are thinking of other before yourself.... which is beautiful and shows that you are a very kind person. But just think for yourself just a minute." Pepper told her.

Nayara put the microphone in mute. "What do I do? I promise Tony I will stay away from the Avengers and Pepper." Nayara told Kara.

Kara send her a knowing look. "Pepper told you to think of yourself. Is this what you want?" Kara asked her. Nayara nodded. "Then take it. I will deal with Tony myself." Kara added.

Nayara turned back on the microphone. "I will like to come back, if I'm accepted of course." Nayara told her on the phone.

"You think I will be calling if I wouldn't accept you?" Pepper asked her. The woman knew Nayara could not see her, but she could not stop the smile coming up her lips. "Could you come over then? I need to give you a new pass. I'm increasing security." Pepper told her.

"Yeah." Nayara answered her. "Alright, cool." Nayara said before hanging up the call. Nayara turned to Kara.

"Do you want me to give you a ride?" Kara asked her shyly.

"You know how to drive?" Nayara asked her.

Kara smirked at her. "Who said anything about flying." Kara answered her. Nayara's smile widen and nodded.

. . .

Kara dropped down Nayara in an alley a block away from the Avenger's tower. "You will call if you need anything. I will be around doing all that superhero stuff. Are you sure you don't want me to walk you over?" Kara asked her. She was massively concerned to leave the girl by herself after what had happened in graduation.

"I will be okay." Nayara said before giving Kara a hug. "Thank you." She whispered before walking away.

Nayara walked up to the building, sighing before she entered it. She will regret it later.

. . .

Nayara looked at Pepper with curious eye. "So, did Tony finally break the silence he had?" Nayara asked Pepper curiously.

"Yeah." Pepper told her. "It was them who did that to you, right?" Pepper asked her. Nayara nodded at her. "Why didn't you tell me?" Pepper asked her.

"Because you will have asked why I was there in the first place. Or why I had to do with HYDRA, which the answer is nothing. I'm just good friends with Captain America. He is my mentor." Nayara told Pepper. "I'm sorry if I caused any dilemmas." Nayara quickly added.

Pepper shook her head. "Oh, not at all. I was just worried. I mean, I thought somebody had threatened you if you didn't quit. I was just concerned." Pepper explained to her.

Bang!

Nayara fell to the floor when she heard the sound of a bullet being shot. The bullet landed near Pepper. Nayara looked over the shoulder at the HDYRA agents storming in.

"You don't have a goddamn security in the Avengers' tower!" Nayara yelled at Pepper. Nayara saw the bright green suits with mask storm inside the room. "You have to go." Nayara told her.

"I'm not leaving you behind. Not a chance." Pepper told her. "JARVIS, call SHIELD and the police. Set off the alarm, evacuate everyone out of the building." Pepper told the AI.

"Call Tony too!" Nayara said out loud. She looked at Pepper. "He will freak out if he heard you didn't told him. He loves you too much." Nayara told Pepper.

"You know, sometimes it amazes me how you know him more than I do." Pepper told her. If only you knew, Peps. If only you knew. Nayara thought.

Nayara saw how Pepper was searching for something under her desk. Her eyes widen when she saw she had taken out a gun. "You know what, I'm not surprised at all." Nayara said under her breath.

Pepper shot the agents and they took cover, giving Nayara and Pepper enough time to run out of the office. Pepper lead Nayara down the hall and into the emergency stair case.

However, they were unable to reach the exit because it was blocked. Pepper pointed the hand gun at the agents. Nayara pulled Pepper away from them before multiple shots started to ring.

"Yeah, use the small gun against the bad guys who have the big guns. Multiples of them." Nayara sarcastically said. She sighed, looking at her. "You should go." Nayara told her.

"Yeah, a leave a kid-" Pepper started but stopped when a loud voice cut her off.

"Nayara, it is lovely to see you!" Zemo said, looking at the two of them from down the hall. Nayara was about to run down the opposite way, where they had come from but she stopped by a gun. "The Captain is sadly not here." Zemo told her.

Nayara clenched her jaw, turned to face Zemo with a brave face. "You want me. I will tell you everything I know. I am not going to ask you keep everyone out of it, because I know you wouldn't. So, let's get this over with." Nayara said, her voice trembling a little. This time she was alone. She had no X-Men nor Steve behind her.

. . .

Steve stood behind the team of SHIELD agents, watching as they chatted. Nayara's words still glued to his man. An agent walked up to him. "Mr. Stark wants to chat with you." The agent said, before leaving.

Steve walked quickly to where pilots were. Tony was shushing them out, before closing the door behind them. "What is it Tony?" Steve asked him.

Tony didn't say anything and pulled up a life stream news footage. "An evacuation has happened in the Avengers' tower. Thousands of what appeared to be HYDRA agents have infiltrated the tower and have been holding hostage. It is still unknown who and what they want." The news reporter said.

Steve did not get the memo, and Tony looked at him before turning his eyes away. "I got a call from JARVIS confirming its HYDRA, and that SHIELD in on his way." Tony said. "I don't know...I don't know if Nayara is inside with them. She said she was going to call her." Tony told him.

Steve's face paled slightly. He picked up the phone dialing it non-stop.

Nothing, and that was never a good sign.

Steve sat in the pilot seat, while Tony searched for the satellite imagines of the building. Steve dialed again the number, but it ended. "How long are we away from there?" Steve asked Tony.

"Still three hours away." Tony told him. Tony swore loudly when the footage showed the top of the building being opened by Zemo. In his arms was Nayara, followed by Pepper.

Steve's blood ran cold, watching as Zemo pushed Nayara near the edge. Nayara did not struggle against his hold. Steve rang again.

It wasn't Nayara who answered. "Captain." Zemo said, holding Nayara's phone to his ear. "She is just like you, she does not know when to take a threat lightly." Zemo said, pulling her even closer to the edge.

Steve clenched the phone on his phone. Nayara froze when she felt the top bottom of her shoes hit the gravity. She closed her eyes, her stomach falling to the floor.

"If you do anything to her I swear-" Steve threat was cut off short when he saw how Zemo faking pushed her before drawing her back. Nayara felt like the air was sucked out of her lungs.

"Girly, why don't you tell Steve the reason why you are here?" Zemo asked mocking Nayara. He pressed the phone next to the girl's phone. She let out a shaky breath.

"Cap." Nayara said on the other side of the phone.

"I'm right here." Steve said in a soft tone. "Just hold of a little longer." Steve told her. From the corner of his eye, he saw Tony standing up, already getting on his suit.

"They want me to tell them what I know about you guys. I told them I don't know anything." Nayara whispered. "I might not make it out of this one. So, don't blame yourself for this." Nayara told him before the phone was returned to Zemo.

"How righteous this girl, is." Zemo told Steve. "They are other ways to destroy you, Rogers. We just have to look for the right ones." Zemo added.

"You know that is a terrible costume." Nayara answered him. That is a terrible thing to say, Steve thought to himself. He knew that under pressure, Nayara will be inspired to crack up jokes to ease the tension.

Zemo shook his head and threw the phone to the floor. Steve watched powerless as Zemo neared the girl near the edge. He saw him whisper something, but he could not make out what was it.

. . .

Zemo's cold breath hit the side of her head. "Why will Sharon lead to the Captain's defeat?" Zemo asked her.

Nayara looked briefly ahead. She spotted from a far the red costume coming her way, swinging quickly. "Because she is Steve's girlfriend. She meant a lot to Steve." Nayara replied back. "If she will be in a dangerous situation, he will jump in to safe her. He will give his life for her. It is common sense." Nayara told him.

Zemo let go of her. Nayara stood frozen on her spot.

"You little bastard, why don't you let her go?" Pepper screamed behind him. "She has nothing to tell you. She is hardly with the Avengers!" Pepper yelled, her face as red as her hair.

"She used to." Zemo told Nayara.

Nayara frowned confused at his words. "I used to." Sharon said, coming out of the shadows. Nayara glared at her. "You destoyed everything. You took him away from me. You little brat." Sharon said before punching.

Nayara avoided the punch before throwing a good hit at Sharon on the face. The blonde glared at her, coming closer to her. Nayara took a few steps back. "Thirteen!" Zemo yelled, but the blonde had too much fury within her.

"He will never forgive you." Nayara told her.

Sharon smirked at her before punching her off. Nayara's breath got caught in her throat.

She screamed, hoping that Peter will be near.

But he was far away, just like Supergirl when she heard the scream. No matter how fast they tried. They will never ever to reach her.

Nayara closed her eyes, preparing for the impact.

It never came.

Arms caught Nayara, but the brunette did not open her eyes. "Pete?" She asked, feeling the strong arms. When she opened her eyes, everything was a going in fast. She looked ahead, seeing how she was going vertically up the tower. Out of shock, Nayara leant back into the arms and held them rightly.

"What?" She said under her breath. She turned slightly. Her eyes opened wide when she saw the symbol.

A lightning bolt.

"Flash." She whispered. She saw how with one arm the said hero had knocked over the HYDRA personnel and freed Pepper before running quickly away from the scene.

The hero with the red suit stopped ten blocks away. He skipped to a stop inside an alley. He helped Nayara down. "Barry." She mumbled in shock.

Now it was the Flash who was now in shock.

Nayara turned to face him. "How do you know my name?" He said.

Nayara gulped. "You...I-I.... Thank you? Yeah, thank you." Nayara told him, her voice rough after screaming. She was slightly shaken still. "What the hell are you doing here?" Nayara asked.

"I came to save you." He said.

"You're the Flash." She said breathless, her mouth wide open. Slowly, realization started to hit her. "I got saved by the god damn flash! You're The Flash! Flash!" She said in excitement.

Then it stopped. "What the hell are you doing here? Bartholomew Henry Allen, what the hell did you got yourself in to?" Nayara said, her tone turning into a angry one.

Barry pointed his finger at her. "How the hell do you know my name?" Barry said, pointing at her.

"Because you are the Flash!" Nayara exclaimed.

"Nobody knows my name." Barry told her.

"In your universe. Not in this one." Nayara said to him. "Familiar with travelling across worlds? Or time travel? Went a little too fast this time?" Nayara asked him.

Barry opened him mouth but nothing came out. This girl way younger than him was scowling him after he saved her life. He was trying to come up with a reply but nothing came out.

Nayara smirked at him, knowing that he was speechless. Nayara flinched when something landed behind her. When she turned around, she saw it was Kara. She had a pale face and was already pulling her into a hug.

"You okay?" Kara asked her.

Nayara was about to reply, but she stopped when she felt the wind hit her in the face. Nayara turned around, seeing that the Barry had left, leaving a trail of burnt cement.

"I got saved by the Flash." Nayara told Kara. A small smile came into the girl's face has she realized that statement was true.

"That's impossible." Kara told her even if she had seen it with her own eyes.

"He is the impossible, Kara." Nayara replied back. She was breathless, as she smile a little more.

Kara smirked at her. "I know who your favorite is now." Kara joked, smiling at her. Nayara blushed slightly but kept quiet. She was thankful she was saved, by him. Now it was her turn to return the favor.
