01 | CRASH ZONE

NAYARA LILLY WAS a superhero geek. Ever since she was barely months old, all superheroes were all around her. Not in the way you expect. They were not fresh and bones, rather fictional heroes inside the colorful pages of graphic novels, and in some case the small television. When she was barely two, her father will play with her Superman. He will lift her up pretending the mere meters above the floor were the ceiling. Funnily enough, she never grew as much love for that hero as Batman. It could have been a dark character for a young girl her age, but the tv and the complexity of the character made her more interested as she grew older.

Along with the Batman shows she saw, there was a certain group that will forever remain in her heart: The X-Men. The possibility of gaining powers was something that Nayara always dreamt of. As she grew older, she engulfed herself more and more into the world of graphic novels; using it as an escape of her own world. Using it as a motivation method. Especially when she grew sick towards the end of her sophomore year.

Her father will always tell her that she was a walking hero enciclopedia. She had grown invested in the world of superheroes. It fascinated how when you took away the heroes, the graphic novels were still able to highlight social and political problems, and encourage people of all ages to remain good and hopeful even through dark times. She had read books, searched even further information about the heroes she loved and the villains they face.

Her knowledge was what was going to help her now more than ever.

. . .

It was sunny sky in New York. The people carry on with their lives, going to work, going to school, etc. That certain morning on the 8th of May, a body had frown across worlds and landed in the outskirts of New Jersey. It was a moment that will not only change Nayara's life, but the one around her as well.

Scientist across S.W.O.R.D, S.H.I.E.L.D and even A.I.M did not thought of the high energy levels that went across the world. They thought it was an anomaly. Oh, they were wrong.

There was just one woman who had lived a few kilometers away from the crash zone who has seen the bright light that had appeared. The woman with bright red hair took her jacket with her and her car keys and went to the crash zone.

When she arrived, she was surprised to see a young girl with brunette hair laying there. Her closed and the top of her head had a small cut on it. The woman looked around, wondering where she could have come from, but the answer she found was under the girl's body. The woman sighed, taking a hold of the girl and put her in the back of the car. She closed the door behind her, and put the backpack the girl had on the co-pilot's seat.

As she drove, she dialed urgently a phone number. "What is it hon?" The man's voice said from the other side of the line.

"I'm going towards the nearest hospital now. I found a unconscious girl laying in the middle of the forest. I will might be home later than expected."  The woman told her husband as she took a quick look at the girl in the back of the car. "She is so young." She whispered.

"Where did she come from?" Her husband asked her.

"I don't know. She was just, there." She lied. She knew that it was too much of a conscience that the girl was just where she had estimated the thing had landed from the sky. She sighed, hanging up the call. "This world is getting weirder." She murmured. And it was about to get weirder.

. . .

The young brunette oped her eyes at the dimmed lights in the hospital. She was disoriented, tired and felt as if her head was going to explode any minute. It took time, but she slowly gained recognition of her surroundings, worrying her even more. As she was about to set her foot on the ground, the door busted open by a woman with a fiery red hair and a doctor.

"You are awake. Good. Could you tell us your name?" The doctor asked her.

The brunette sighed, looking around the room. "Where am I?" She asked him with a thick accent.

"You're in West Harrison Hospital. Could you tell us your name?" The doctor asked her again.

"Where are my parents?" She asked him back, not answering the question.

"We can not call them if you don't tell us your name." The doctor told the young girl.

The girl sighed. "Umm....Nayara....Lilly." She mumbled. The doctor quickly noted it down in his file. "Where am I?"

"You are in the outskirts of New York, honey." The woman with red hair informed her.

"This woman found you unconscious in the forest. Do you remember what happened?" The doctor asked the girl. The girl shook her head.

"No, I was in a hike...and I can't remember anything else." The girl said to him. The doctor nodded, leaving to call the family.

The woman with red hair, passed her the remote control softly. "If you...want to watch anything." She said to Nayara.

"What's your name?" Nayara asked her.

The woman gave her a kind smile. "I'm Betty Bordouz. I was hiking when I found you." She informed her. Nayara nodded at her. "Do you need somebody to call?" She asked Nayara.

"My parents...but they are in Chicago." Nayara said, as she silently wondered how she ended up in New York. "What date is it?" The girl asked her. The woman looked down at her phone. "It's May 8th, 2017." She informed the girl.

Nayara paled slightly, her mind racing a thousand miles and hour as she quietly tried to find how she moved so quickly between Chicago and New York with a mere hours or possibly seconds. She was unaware that was in a total different world that she perceived to be.

The woman turn on the television, hoping that the girl will distract herself from it. She left, giving the girl some privacy. When Nayara turned on the tv, the news channel was on. She chuckled when she saw an image of Iron Man. "This is great propaganda from Marvel" She whispered to herself, half amused by it.

A knock on the door was heard, and the doctor approached her. "Ms.Lilly, we are unable to contact your parents." He said to her.

Nayara looked silently at him. "Can I call them?" She asked the man. The man looked at her and nodded. A wheelchair was handed to her in a matter of seconds. When she was near the phone, she dialed her mother, father, and even her godmother's phone number. None of them replied. Nayara sighed, shaking her head.

The nurse near the computer asked the doctor to hold for a second. As Nayara's was being wheeled back to her room she could hear the hushed conversation between the two. "She isn't in the system, sir. Nor her parents. There are no where to be found. I called the police station, they are coming to see what is going on." The nurse told him.

Nayara felt her lugs tighted at the words of the woman. When she arrived to her room, she locked the door. She looked around the room, spotting her bag and her clothe. She swiftly changed out, ignoring the piercing pain she was feeling on her head.

She saw her phone fall down the floor, and when she went to reach it she saw a magazine laying on the ground of a image of aliens and a man with a red, white and blue suit. She could recognize that suit anywhere, no matter how many times it was changed in the comics. She pulled it own, frowning at it. When she checked the date, it said it was published weeks ago; but how did she not remember it?

She sighed, picking up her phone getting ready to leave. She slightly opened the door, witnessing a nurse chat with another one. "She might be an alien. The nurse in the front desk said she was found unconscious in the woods." Nayara rolled her eyes at the fact that these women thought she was an alien.

"They are calling in the Sentinels Services." The other nurse mentioned.

Nayara' eyes widen at the mention of the organization that hunted down mutants. She knew that they were fictional last time she checked, which made her wonder if she was in some type of prank planned by Marvel or even Fox to advertise the new superhero films. If so - witch was not the case - she will have loved to meet the actors who portrayed her favorite heroes.

Nayara sighed, waiting for the women to leave. She tried to act normal as she walked through the hospital's halls, trying to find the back door. When she did, she opened it, running down the stairs, ignoring the increasing pain in her head. She skipped the last step, and opened the door of the first floor. She swiftly walked out of the hospital, looking at her surroundings.

She pulled out her phone, and tried to find her own location. Her phone's GPS did not work, which resulted in her trying to find a map she could use. She walked around the slight big town, trying to find where she was. When she spotted a book store, she pulled out the money from her bag pack, and looked at the nearest map store. She pulled out the map, watching the map from the big town she was in. She frowned, when she saw a map from the entire New York state, shocked to see a word she was not expecting popped up in the map: Avenger's Tower.

She chuckled slightly, walking towards the cashier. "Sorry, I was lost. Are you sure this is the right map?" The girl asked the woman.

The woman looked at it and nodded. "Of course it is the right map, dear." She said to her. "We are right here...where are you trying to go?" She asked the girl.

"I don't know." Nayara replied, watching how the woman put a dot showing the girl the location she was at. Nayara looked around the shop, spotting a set of newspapers. She looked at them, recognizing one. "Pardon, why do you have the Daily Budge in here?" Nayara asked the woman.

"Well, people love it. Specially since they love to hear about their favorite heroes, like Spiderman." The woman answered her. "Not a fan of them?" She asked.

"No...umm...actually...I will take it with the map." She told the woman, picking up a copy of it and walking back to the cashier.

"You are not from around here, are you?" She asked.

"No. Do you know where the nearest train station is?" Nayara asked the woman.

"Down the street, you then take a left and it should be there. Where are you trying to go?" The woman asked her.

"Chicago." Nayara answered.

"Then you should take the one towards Manhattan and there you could take one for Chicago. Good luck." The woman told Nayara.

"Thank you." You whispered. You debated to ask the woman a question that was burning in your mind. "Quick question? Do you know Captain America is? Or Spiderman?" Nayara asked the woman.

"He is an Avenger. Captain America. He is known as Steve Rogers, everyone knows that." The woman answered. "But when it comes to Spiderman, it is very uncertain who he is. His identity isn't public." The woman said to her.

"You wouldn't call him Chris Evans?" Nayara asked the woman. "I mean...you wouldn't call Cap Chris Evans?" She asked.

"Who is Chris Evans?" The woman asked, confused on the question.

Nayara tried to remain calm. "Captain America." Nayara answered back.

"Do you know who the Avengers are?" The woman asked her.

"What do you mean?" Nayara asked the woman in the cashier.

"Honey, haven't you seen the news?" She asked her.

"Umm, no...I'm...not a news person" She lied. A full blown out lie.

"The Avengers. Earth's Mightiest Heroes. They save the world." The woman told her.

"Is this some kind of joke? Because it isn't funny. Where are the cameras?" Nayara asked the woman.

"There are none, hun. What joke?" She asked her. Nayara sighed, paying for her stuff. "Wait-" The woman started, but the girl was already near the door.

"It's fine. I got to go now." Nayara said, leaving the shop. She sighed, feeling as if she was slowly going inside. Opening the map, she made her own way towards the train station. If she wanted to find answers, then she needed to leave the town that acted as the heroes were real. The poor girl was unaware she was stuck in the wrong world.

. . .

Nayara walked quickly through the streets of downtown Manhattan, trying to find the nearest police station. She stopped half way when she spotted a man at the edge of a building wearing a  red and blue suit. She clutched her eyes, recognizing the suit.

Nayara panicked, wondering why a man will attempt to swing like Spiderman. "Hey, hey hold on. Don't jump!" Nayara screamed at the top of her lungs, waving her arms around in an cross monition. The man looked down at her. "Hey, don't jump. You aren't Spider-Man! I'm calling the cops!" Nayara yelled, getting weird looks from people around her.

The man jumped from above the edge, and Nayara scream in panic. What happened next, was something she did not expect at all:

The man had shot up a web across a building and had safety landed on the ground in front of her.

Nayara looked at it in amazed. "Why would you call the cops? I'm not the bad guy." The man - correction teen - said in front of her.

Nayara quickly recovered from shock. "This must be some sick prank Sony and Marvel agreed on  for advertising. It isn't funny." She said to the hero in front of her.

"I'm not advertising anything. Who are Sony and Marvel?" The hero asked her.

"Who are you? Tom Holland? Andrew Garfield or Tommy McGuire?" Nayara asked him, pulling her sweater closer to her.

The boy dressed as an spider "Umm...none of the above." He replied, confused on the mention of the names he had told her.

Nayara sarcastically chuckled, reaching for the boy's mask. The boy stopped her, taking a hold of her hand half way. "Wow, don't remove the mask. It keeps my secret identity." He told her, his voice slightly higher being confused by the girl.

Nayara scoffed. "That thing is useless. We all know you are Peter Parker." She mumbled. Although, the hero heard her words and quickly looked around the crowd of people that started to form. He took her by the arm, and she pushed him away.

"No, I don't want to continue being part of this prank." Nayara told him.

The boy held her by the arm before shooting a web and swinging both of them away from public eye. Nayara yelled in panic, hitting the boy in the arm. "Let go of me. I'm suing the studios. I didn't sign up for this!" She yelled. "Anybody, please put me down!! I am not wearing a armrest and I can hurt myself. Please. This isn't funny." She yelled louder.

The boy rolled his eyes under the mask, getting a tighter hold of the girl. "I'm not letting you fall." He told her.

The girl looked at him with narrowed eyes. "Let me down!" She exclaimed. The boy stopped at a roof, setting both of them down away from the edge. Nayara took a few steps back, before falling to the floor. Her knees had given up, and her heart was racing a thousand miles and hour. "Why did you do that? How did you do that?" She asked, her accent becoming thicker, just as her anger increased.

"I-I didn't want you to tell all those people about my identity." He said to her.

"Like they don't know Spiderman is Peter Parker!" She exclaimed.

The boy shushed her. "I use webs." He told her.

"What?" She asked.

"I use webs to swing across the buildings. It's the answer to your question." He told her. "Now answer mine, please."

"I will do when I regain some of my sense...and when everything stops spinning." She snapped at him. Nayara took deep breath, as she closed her eyes trying to calm her nerves. The boy quietly paced around the roof, keeping his eyes on the girl who was a similar age than his. When Nayara was finally able to talk, she looked up to him. "Why are you surprise that I know who you are?" She asked him.

"Because I have a secret identity. It's supposed to be secret."

"But every kid, teen and adult know that you are the original Spiderman, aka Peter Parker. I don't understand why..." Nayara said, but stopped when she looked up and saw something behind the boy's shoulder. Her face paled when she saw it. "That's impossible." She whispered to herself, as she kept her eyes on the building behind him.

"What?" The boy asked confused.

"That's the Avenger's tower." Nayara answered. "It is impossible to built it at grand scale. It doesn't make any-" She stopped dmid sentence, looking at the boy. She walked quickly towards him, and looked at his back. There was not a harnest. "Oh my god." She whispered, covering her mouth with her hand.

She felt her legs slightly give up as a mixture of panic and excited overcame her. The boy quickly reached to hold her as she started to fell down. He set her down on the floor, as he looked at her. "That's what you panic, because you're the Peter Parker. You are the real Spiderman." She mumbled. "but that's impossible.

"Umm...I think you need to go to the hospital." Peter told her.

"No...I just...I-" She started, but was cut off by her train of thoughts. Her mind raised a thousand miles an hour, trying to figure out how she could resolve the problem she was in. She looked around. "I'm dreaming. This is a entire dream. It's impossible." She whispered to herself. She knew she was slightly laying to herself. This was real and it felt more real than her dreams.

A small idea appeared on her mind. She knew who could help her, or at least she hoped so. "I'm not insane. I swear. I...I need to get to somewhere. I need you to get me home-" She said. "That sounded weird. Very weird....D-do you know Wolverine?" She asked him, even though she knew the answer to it. She didn't said a thing because she didn't want to see crazier than she was.

The boy frowned her her. He went to grab her, but she had ran towards the edge of the roof. She looked down at the emergency stairs, and knew it will be quite a fall. She took a deep breath before jumping. She groaned when she felt the side of her body collide with the metal. She ignored the yell from Spiderman, and made her way down the stairs.

She hide behind a trash can, looking at the map of the city. She knew she needed to find help quick. It didn't matter if she was a dream or not. She didn't want to wait to figure it out herself, so looked at the trajectory of where she was going.

The girl had read enough books to know the location that she wanted to go to: Westchester County, New York. She folded, and left blending in with the people in the streets of Manhattan.

. . .
