Chapter 11

"Stella!"

I look over my shoulder. Great. Pine's been here the entire time we've been training. Deciding to ignore her, I turn back around and continue watching Peridot and Ryker's fight.

"Stella!" Pine calls my name again, this time louder than before.

I roll my eyes.

"Stella, that gem is calling you, shouldn't you go see what she wants?" Jay asks me.

I groan, but reluctantly stand up and trudge over to her. "What do you want now?"

"You know, you're not the most tolerable thing, either. Most people wouldn't make deals with random gems that they don't know to go on some journey to find the Crystal Gems!" Pine screams, emphasizing random words in her sentence.

"So?"

"And, in that deal, make two random gems join you against their will!"

I shrug. "At least a journey is more interesting than sitting in your fancy underground cavern thing all day."

"We don't live in a fancy underground cavern thing!" Pine tells me, obviously frustrated.

I try not to laugh, but it's hard to keep a straight face. "Why did you want me over here in the first place?" I ask.

"Oh, I didn't. Violet did." Pine motions to Violet, who's sitting on a boulder.

"Why do you need me?" I ask, walking up to Violet cautiously.

Violet jumps off of the boulder gracefully and takes my hands. "Stella, this journey will be the most difficult thing you have ever done in your life. Gems will be trying to kill you. They'll come after your brothers, everyone. You won't find much food or water. You'll always be exhausted, and you might never see other humans again, besides your brothers. You might start losing your sanity. You'll become the focus of attack to everyone. It's a fight-or-flight world. It's a kill-or-be-killed world. You'll have to make major sacrifices. You--"

"Violet, I want to do this. You don't have to, but I am no matter what." I stubbornly tell Violet.

"Why?" Pine asks me, casually popping up from behind the boulder that Violet was sitting on. "Why are you relying on two other weak humans and two gems that don't have much fighting experience? Why do you trust them so much?"

I'm about to tell Pine my answer, but instead, Violet replies. "She's human, Pine. She has faith in her two closest human companions because she's human. She has faith in two random gems that are very weak that she hardly knows because she's human. She trusts everyone because she's human."
