Chapter Ten

Feeling Betrayed

Amaris POV:

Amaris felt a pang of something in her chest. It wasn't the good kind of pang. A type of pang that screamed of anger and betrayal. She couldn't believe it. Her own friends had taken her book. Her heartbeat was pounding in her ears. What were they going to do with it? Use it against her? There wasn't that much that she found that could harm monsters or people. Maybe she hadn't gone through the whole book.

The first option was to hunt them down and take it by force. There also weren't that many options in the first place. Why the hell would Daniel of all monsters need my spell book? What's he going to do with it, order McDonald's?

Either way I've got to figure out where they are. Knowing Charlotte, Carol and Daniel, they'd probably go somewhere they know. What places do they know so far. They know the Weeping Tree, but that would be to obvious. The school is also a place that they know. I'll go there first.

Amaris got up from the table and pushed in her chair. Irina was staring at her and looked concerned. "Are you okay? You were staring at the table weirdly? Like something was going to jump out at you". Irina asked. Amaris nodded and turned away from her. The pounding in her ears stopped. "I'm going for a walk". She stepped forwards and went past the washer and dryer on her right. She quickly put her shoes on, opened the door and stepped out.

DEAR MOTHER OF ASGORE! MY EYES! Amaris thought as the rays of the sun beat themselves into her eyes. She quickly turned around. Maybe going outside while it's daytime isn't a good idea. I guess I'll just wait at the school then. Amaris thought as she lifted her wings.

She flew into the sky and felt the wind through her hair. The clouds were above her. They looked clean and it didn't look like it would rain. The sun was now behind her, she was grateful for that. Her eyes didn't hurt anymore. She scratched her hands again. She'd been doing this for a while now.

Was something wrong with her? It wasn't that close to shedding season, was it? No, that only happened in summer and spring. It also happened every two to four weeks. It kind of sucked because it took so long. The longest she's ever shed was about one to half an hour. Usually it took about forty to fifty minutes. No, maybe it was something else.

Maybe it was her lack of sleep. She had finally reached the school and landed on the sidewalk. It was close to evening. She heard one of the bells go off. Amaris walked towards the school entrance. She didn't really have anything to do besides wait until it was dark out. The Possession demons came during that time. She didn't mind them. They stayed to themselves and the darkness. Amaris leaned against the school's brick wall and closed her eyes.

Didn't Amanda walk by the school when the Possession Demons came by? She did, it was to find someone to manipulate. They mostly ignored her so it didn't work that much. Amaris hated how much Amanda manipulated people and monsters. She wondered what Amanda thought when she manipulated people and monsters. It was hard to tell. Maybe her view of things was different.

Amanda walked into the school and was glad it was Friday. Wasn't everyone glad it was Friday? Who isn't glad that it's Friday? Monsters and People who hate Friday's? Is that a thing? Maybe she could do some more convincing of people and monsters to give her money to buy stuff.

Usually she'd ask her parents but they were busy working. They were to busy to even pay attention to her. Her mom worked as an EMT and her dad worked as a Veterinarian. Sure they worked mostly forty eight hour shifts, but couldn't they spend at least some time with her? Putting monsters and people under spells was one of the ways she got money. She could've gotten a job, but why would she? Her parents were rich monsters and convincing other monsters and people was much more fun.

She stopped and looked around the hallways. Monster and people were everywhere. Someone bumped into her from behind. Amanda hissed at them. "Are you as dumb as a sunfish? Watch it!". Amanda yelled at them. She was an Earth element. Some other monsters walked past her and crowded the hallways. No wonder she doesn't know where she's going, There's to many dangerous people and monsters here!

She had dark brown bark. Her eyes were light brown. She had hair stalks that were an even darker brown fading into light green at the tips. Her fingerpetals were painted White fading into Pink. The girl blinked at her and spoke. "I-I'm sorry! Are you okay?". The girl asked with her stupid apology.

Amanda scoffed and gestured for the girl to move along. Amanda had a feeling she would be seeing more of that girl around. The cafeteria was where most of the monsters and people were. She walked in and saw lunch tables full of humans and monsters.

She sat somewhere different every time, every time she got different amounts of money. Amanda was somewhat grateful for what they gave her. Some monsters and people didn't even have money on them. She kind of felt bad for them but they kind of deserved it. They barely have enough money for the vending machines, so why would they have money for themselves? Poor things.

She sat by some random monsters that she didn't know. A goat, spider and lizard. The spider looked at the others and then at her. "Do you need something?". The lizard beside her asked. Did these monsters really not know her? They were about to.

Amanda looked towards the lizard. She was a frilled lizard. She was a Mocha Brown with shades of Fire Orange on her frills. She didn't care for her clothes, Hers were better. She stared at the lizard until she spoke. "Yes, I do actually..". Amanda responded as she watched the lizard fall under her spell. Everything around them slightly faded away. Everything except her and the lizard sounded as if they were underwater.

The goat and spider across from them were concerned but didn't do anything. The lizards frills slowly raised then fell. "What's your name?". Amanda asked the lizard. She stayed silent for a while. "Oakna Mullein". Oakna responded. "Alright Oakna, Give your money". Amanda commanded.

Oakna slowly reached into her pant pocket and pulled out her wallet. She opened it and hesitantly gave her fifteen bucks. Fifteen bucks! My parents could give me more.. Amanda took the money greedily. Oakna's eyes flickered slightly as she put her wallet into her back pocket. The sounds around them started to slowly get louder. She could hear the chattering of people, laughing of children, the bangs of trays as they were being dumped, and the loud clang of metal doors. Amanda's spell was slowly wearing off. The goat and spider across from them just stared at her.

The goat stared at Amanda in disbelief. The spider looked concerned. "Wha?- Give Oakna back her money!". The goat yelled as he slammed his right hand on the table. Did I do something wrong? Amanda thought. A few monsters and people turned to look at their table. Three people sneered and looked away from them. The chatter slightly stopped. The spider waved at some of the monsters. They waved back. Amanda turned back to the spider and goat as she placed the money in her purse. Did she mention that she had a purse? "What do you mean? She gave me her money willingly". Amanda convinced the goat and spider.

Apparently she hadn't convinced them well enough. The spider looked at the goat and put her hand on his shoulder. "You don't need to be so loud Sanen". The spider whispered to Sanen. He huffed and small sparks came out of his nose. "Sydney, did you not see what just happened? Oakna, tell this bitch to give you your money back". Sanen told Oakna. The spider's name is Sydney and the goat's name is Sanen, got it! Sydney looked shocked at the fact that he swore. The chattering went back to normal volume. Amanda's eyes widened. How dare Sanen make assumptions about her!

Oakna looked nervous. She looked between Sanen and Sydney. She stared at Amanda and her frill was slightly raised. "I-It's okay Sanen! I have more money at home anyways..". Oakna looked at Amanda's clothes for a minute before taking out her wallet again. "Do you need more money? You can have some".

Amanda looked at Oakna and shook her head. "No thanks! I have more money at home. I just forgot to bring it today". Amanda told Oakna as she pushed the wallet back with her pointer finger. Does Oakna think I need money because I'm poor? Amanda questioned. Oakna put the wallet back into her back pocket. Amanda would have to find some more monsters and people.

She could do more convincing at lunch. After all, no one would remember if she did it correctly. She also had some rumors to spread about Amaris. She hadn't really gotten close to her. Except that one time after her and Charlotte had that disagreement. Her head still slightly hurt after banging into the locker.

She got up from breakfast and dumped her tray. After that she had Ceramics. That class was interesting. She had made a vase about a day ago and had taken it home to show her mom. It had been when her mom was sleeping, so she had snuck into their room and placed it onto her nightstand. She had been surprised when she had seen flowers in it. They were Daffodils.

Daffodils were a pretty common flower. Her favorite flower was the snapdragon. Mostly because it could be Peach Orange. She walked out of the right door in the cafeteria and took another right. She went up the stairs and took a right into Ceramics. She had taken the class to make stuff for her mom and dad. Something to look at when they got home. Daniel was sitting at the table they worked at. Mr. Wills was sitting at his desk and glanced up at Amanda. "Good morning Amanda! How are you doing this fine Friday?". Mr. Wills asked her.

Amanda put on her best I'm-totally-so-excited-but-not-really-face. "I'm doing great! What're we doing today?". She asked Mr. Wills. Mr. Wills picked up a piece of paper, looked at it, then placed it back onto the desk. "We are engraving into pottery! With the skills you learned on..". Mr. Wills picked up the paper again. "Thursday".

Amandas pottery skills were.. good. She wasn't a master at it but it came out how she wanted. It took a while until everybody made it to class and their vases were ready. She had made a bud vase. Well, she didn't make it. It was ready made but it sounded cooler if she said that she made it. Mr. Wills picked up a pencil and did a cool spin with it. "Now you can all start to sketch your designs onto it". He announced to the class as he started to sketch something.

She was going to make some flowers. First, she started to make the circles of the flowers. They weren't perfect circles but they worked. Amanda started to make the petals. She drew about five flowers. Three were small and two were big. "Once you're done with your designs, you can start to use your flat paddle tool to define the edges". Mr. Wills loud voice had scared her. Amanda had almost jumped out of her chair. Mostly because she was sitting cross legged.

When she was done with the design of her vase, she had handed it to Mr. Wills. "This is a very nice vase. Now we let it dry and hope it comes out good". Mr. Wills told her. She had hoped that her parents were home. Whenever her hopes were up for her parents being home, it felt like her hopes got shattered like a glass cup when she came home and they weren't there. Her house was a mix of above and below water.

Amanda lived in Cobalt Cove. It was a local Ocean after you went to Beige Bay. Beige Bay was a beach and before that was The Crescent Coastline. The good thing was that the King of Monsters, Asgore, wasn't naming things anymore. Someone named Toriel had taken over that job. To her, Asgore didn't seem that regal. Sure, he looked intimidating, but once you got to know him he was kind of.. cool? He just talked about how much he missed his wife and occasionally came in to talk about plants.

Amanda walked into her house and to her relief, her parents were home! Finally they could pay attention to her! When she walked into the house the kitchen was to her right. It was pretty small with a small electric oven and a fridge next to it. When you kept going from the kitchen, there was a dining room. When you turned left from the dining room, there were three rooms. The first one was, for some reason, a bathroom. The second one was her parents bedroom while the third one was her bedroom.

Amanda looked at her mom who was sitting on the couch which was against the wall and waved to her. Her mom was lightly mixed with black wavy hair. Her light brown eyes looked dull in the light. Streaks of silver started showing themselves at the roots of her hairline. She was wearing the same thing she wore whenever she went to bed. She hoped she would wave back. She did and smiled. "Hey mom.. I made you another vase today. Hope you like it, It'll be here soon". Amanda told her mom in a sassy tone. Her mom looked towards her with a glint of resentment in her eyes. She sighed and put her hand on the bridge of her nose. "Amanda, you know how busy I am. I do it for all of us, for the family. Please let me rest". Daphne told Amanda.

Her dad, Celtau, was probably sleeping already. He usually went to sleep earlier than her mom. But if you go to sleep, then I won't see you until Monday. Doesn't she get until Wednesday off? What about Dad? Usually he has the weekends off. But then I won't spend time with both of them. "Why can't I spend any time with you? You're always working and whenever you have days off, your stressing about what to do next! Whenever you get your head out of your ass maybe that's when you'll spend time with me!". Amanda yelled to her mom. She heard a shocked gasp from her mom.

Amanda felt ignored as she stomped to her room. When she closed the door she felt relieved. There was a small pool embedded into the floor which led to the lower part of their house. It also had a cover with a handle attached to it. The cover was off today, she had forgotten to put back on today. She sighed in relief as she slid into the pool of water. She felt her body slowly adjust to the water. It always felt weird when she went into water. She sort of gained phantom limb without her legs.

She could feel as her body shifted and the feel of scales overtook her lower body. Her organs always felt weird when they shifted to their underwater counterparts. She decided that sleeping was the best way to deal with her feelings. She slowly sat in the water waiting for her tail to form. In through the mouth, out through the gills. I'll do something better tomorrow. Like... making fun of kids on video games. Amanda thought as she wiggled her tail around.

She moved down the medium sized tube with ease. She sometimes forgot how pretty it was in Cobalt Cove. The tube which was previously dark, was now full of shades of blue and ocean life around her. A few fish swam by. She felt her gills push water out harder. How hard was she breathing? That didn't matter now. She watched as sea life passed her by like nothing mattered. To them it didn't, they were fish, what did they have to worry about?

Amanda finally made it to her underwater cave. Caves were like houses but they were open to the public. It sounded pretty weird when she first heard about it, but after a while she got used to it.

They aren't even here! Amaris realized as her eyes shot open. Holy fuck how stupid am I? I've been waiting here like an idiot this whole time. It takes time. They definitely wouldn't be at a place I know well, which is the Weeping Tree. Where else could they be? Amaris thought as she put her hand to her chin.

The park. She lifted her wings, pushed off the wall and took off into the setting sky.
