Ladybug
Like any other warm-blooded woman, Ladybug watched Chat Noir and Adrien walk away, the ripples in Chat Noir's back making Adrien look like a young teenager in comparison. Seriously, whatever Chat Noir had been doing he needed to bottle and sell because that man oozed deliciousness by the bucket-load, but that didn't take away the sudden, stinging sensation in her heart.
How could Adrien tell her he loved her and was willing to wait for her, then suddenly be on a romantic getaway with his ex-girlfriend, who also happened to be her best friend? Did she actually mean that little to him?
The splash of water against the sides of the pool pulled her attention to Kagami lifting herself up and onto the ledge. She looked incredible in a gold one piece, the design wrapping around her in a way a model would be jealous of.
"You and Adrien Agreste, then?" Ladybug asked, the question coming out even more judgemental than she felt.
Kagami raised an eyebrow, looking at her sceptically. "Well, yeah."
Well, yeah! Kagami said it as though it meant nothing. Like well, yeah, I'm with my ex again. Well yeah, we're on a romantic vacation. Well yeah, I'm seeing the guy who admitted to my best friend he was in love with her after I told her they're perfect for each other.
When Adrien had chosen Kagami over her the first time, she had let it go. She couldn't talk to him, and she was sure Kagami felt the same way about Adrien as she did. But then there was the swimming pool incident. Kagami stood there and told her she should be with Adrien... Marinette should be with him, not her. Yet here she was canoodling in a pool wearing a very skimpy swim costume and showing off her gorgeous body.
"I didn't think he was dating at the moment," Ladybug continued, jealousy obvious in her tone.
Come on, Marinette!
"He's not," Kagami said so matter of factly, it was like she'd gone into her chest and pulled out her heart.
She shouldn't feel this way. She'd chosen Chat Noir, not Adrien Agreste. She was going to try and pursue her partner and hope he could forgive the stupid mistakes she'd made in the past few years when she'd denied him, and they could finally have their happily ever after.
"Because he's with you?"
"Something like that." Kagami's face didn't even crack. She was just there, stone faced and wrinkle free. Ladybug, on the other hand, looked like her face could do with an iron and a lesson in controlling her emotions.
She looked over to the villa next door, hoping Chat Noir would appear and they could get out of here. And, as though he'd heard her plea, the door opened and out stepped her gorgeous partner with the guy she thought loved her. Liar.
They moved towards the pool, Adrien heading off to sit beside Kagami, Chat Noir taking his rightful place by her side.
"Are you okay?" he asked, with obvious understanding in his voice.
"Yup," she snapped in a 'don't ask me anymore because you'll regret it' kind of way.
He stared at her. His eyebrows creasing and meeting each other in the middle. "You don't..."
"Inside," she retorted.
"Inside?" Chat Noir replied, almost as if he'd never heard the word before in his life.
"Yes, dear. Inside."
Grabbing Chat Noir by the ear (real, not fake) she dragged him through the patio doors and slid them shut with enough force to smash the glass.
"Why the hell are they next door?" she said, words tumbling from her mouth faster than the pastry off a croissant.
"I'm guessing they're on vacation."
"Vacation?" She puffed air out of her cheeks causing her lips to create a raspberry. "Yeah, right! Come to torture me more like. Have a nice holiday, LB! Yeah! Whatever!"
She was pacing like a caged animal, her thumb coming up to her mouth as she bit down on the nail.
"They're allowed to have a break, Bug. Just like we are."
Yes, they most certainly were. But not here! This was her 'Adrien-free zone'. She was here to forget about how much she loved him and persuade herself to love Chat Noir instead. Wait, no, that wasn't right. She loved Chat Noir. Just in a different way to Adrien.
"Are you okay? Can I get you anything?" her partner asked tentatively.
"You can get them to move onto a different island."
Chat Noir laughed, walking towards her and placing his hands on her shoulders. "What has gotten into you? What's wrong with Adrien and Kagami? Haven't you given them a Miraculous in the past?"
Yes she had! But that was before the backstabbing.
"Yes, but..." She trailed off trying to think of a reasonable excuse as to why she didn't want them there. What would be a valid, understandable reason for her wanting them to go?
Come on, Marinette! Think!
"But?" he teased.
"I didn't want to be thinking of Paris whilst I'm here and yet, here you are and here they are, and I'm starting to think it might have been better off just staying at home."
She was happy with that. It was definitely a valid reason, and it made sense. If he wasn't watching her so intently she might have given herself a hefty pat on the back, alas he knew her too well.
"I'm going to pretend I believe that, and imagine that you don't have some sort of beef with Adrien Agreste."
She walked over to the sofa, emptying the forgotten gift basket and slamming the items on the table one-by-one. "Nope. No beef. But he is an arrogant, two-faced asshole."
Slamming the last item down, she looked up at her bewildered partner. He was staring at her like she'd gone momentarily insane, and to be honest she felt it... At least she would be if every inch of her weren't boiling with anger!
"Woah!" Chat Noir said, walking forward with his hands out in front. What did he think she was going to do? Hit him? Why would she? He wasn't the lying, backstabbing hypocrite called Adrien Agreste. "What did the guy ever do to you?"
"Nothing," she hissed, not finishing the sentence with the and that's the problem quip she wanted to.
"Then why are you insulting the guy?"
She huffed, crossing her arms firmly over her chest. "What's it to you?"
He moved closer, still keeping an almost sensible distance between them. "I'd really like to know what he's done to piss you off so badly."
"Piss me off?" she queried with a huff. Her eyes widened and her hand struck herself in the middle of the chest. "Piss me off!" she said again, deliriously. "I'll tell you what it is. It annoys me that people like Adrien womaniser Agreste think they can do whatever they please without the boundaries the rest of us normal beings have to face—"
"I wouldn't exactly call you normal," he interrupted.
"I'm not finished yet," she said through gritted teeth. He held his hands up in apology and she tried to jump back into her Ted talk and finish her thoughts.
Now where was she? Oh, yes...
"Guys like him, think they can just waltz around like they own the place doing whatever they damn well please and without any consideration for anyone else, and now we're stuck with them for the next week, when all I wanted to do was get ov— get an idea of what we could do to defeat Monarch. Now that damn model has come around and spoiled all my plans."
She sat down with a hefty thump to the sofa, the cushions scattering and anything else on the sofa launching into the air and towards her partner. Unlucky for her, she'd forgotten one thing. The discarded condoms.
Her face distorted into a cringe as her partner—her incredibly handsome partner—opened his mouth to speak but was silenced by the silver and pink foiled wrapper which landed straight in his mouth. Maybe she should just head back to Paris and hand over her Miraculous. There's no way things could be worse than this.
