Reveal
Her eyes were so tightly closed she was quite sure a headache was looming.
"Marinette, open your eyes." Oh God, that voice. So unmistakably Adrien. Her fiancé was Adrien Agreste, the Adrien Agreste she had been besotted with during her teenage years. Hell, she was borderline crazy for him now. If quantum magic hadn't hidden his voice so well she would have figured him out years ago.
"They are open." She responded.
Because lying when the person you're lying to can see you works a treat, she thought to herself.
"You're meant to be the smart one." He exclaims with a laugh.
"I'm quite sure you had the highest grade average in our class." She responded, eyes still firmly shut.
"Book smart? Yes, but I'm not the one who can save the city using a fork."
She began to laugh but still refused to open her eyes.
"Call off your transformation." He demanded.
"No."
"Marinette, stop being so stubborn and call it off."
"No." She said again.
He let out an exasperated sigh. Was this how their wedding night was going to work? Constant denial?
"Why?" He questioned.
"Because," she began, "I didn't think this was happening tonight and I haven't dressed appropriately underneath."
"What are you wearing underneath?" She felt the sofa move as he shuffled forwards, wrapping an arm around her waist.
She moved her head towards his shoulder and whispered into his ear.
"Nothing but my underwear." His breath hitched and she wanted to open her eyes to see him, but alas, she still had them tightly closed. She was quite sure she had flustered him, even though she'd just told him another outright lie. Perhaps she needed to see a counsellor or something? Years of being Ladybug had turned her into a super liar.
Ladybug burst out laughing and nuzzled her face into his neck.
"I'm only joking, I swear. But I am really not dressed appropriately for this to be our first reveal." She continued.
She felt him move and the arm that was wound around her waist release, causing a shiver from the lack of warmth.
"Plagg, claws out."
Her eyes shot open to find Chat Noir once again, next to her on the sofa.
"Here's the plan LB. You're going to march upstairs, give Tikki a rest and make yourself look 'reveal ready'."
"Why did you change back?" She asked.
"Because we're going to do this together. Us against the world remember."
She smiled at Chat Noir. Trust him to throw that one at her.
"Always." She responded, before standing up and making her way to the staircase.
"Oh, and Marinette," she stopped and turned around to look back at her pet cat, waiting for him to continue. "I love you."
Her face went bright red with the smile threatening to split it in half. He loved her, she could tell that no matter what uncertainties she had, he would be there to put them right.
She made her way up the stairs and into the spare room.
"Spots off."
Tikki flew out of her earrings and let out a squeal.
"I am so excited Marinette." Marinette couldn't hold back the giggle, for she was excited too.
"I can't believe all this time I could have been with Adrien. What the hell, Tikki, why did you never tell me?"
Even though the words seemed harsher than what Marinette would usually use when it came to her kwami, there was an evident smile plastered all over her face. She was getting married to Adrien Agreste. The model she idolised, the boy she had a crush on for most of her life, her best friend, her partner. She really didn't have anything left to wish for as everything she wants was currently sitting downstairs waiting for her.
"Miraculous magic, Marinette. You have no idea how many times Plagg tried to interfere. Even I was on board to help him with the two of you at one point. Luckily, it all worked out for the best without our involvement."
Marinette grabbed Tikki and spun around, bringing the small red creature into her chest.
"I feel like a Princess in a Disney fairytale." Marinette giggled, kissing her kwami on the cheek, much to the little red bug's amusement. The magical creature wiggled out of Marinette's hands and flew away towards the wardrobe.
"If you wear that you'll look like one too." Marinette stopped and looked over to where Tikki had flown too. She was quite sure the shock of her face would match that of any Warner Brothers cartoon character. Her jaw may as well have been on the floor.
"He didn't!" She placed a hand over her mouth and walked up to the dress hanging from the top of the full length mirror.
Dear Bugaboo,
If you're reading this before the reveal then you are most likely wearing your sweatpants and vest top, like you do when you think no one is coming to visit you, and you don't feel appropriately dressed for me to see you. (In other words you're stalling.)
If you are reading this after the reveal, then your parents are right and we don't actually know each other as well as we think. Though I know I am 100% correct with my first guess. There's no one in this whole world who I know better than you. From the way you bite your lip when you're concentrating, to your amazing brain when figuring out your lucky charms, or how you stare at my naked chest when you're measuring me during fittings. Don't act like you don't, I've caught you many times Ms. Dupain-Cheng.
I am waiting downstairs at this very moment ready to romance you off your feet, all I ask you to do is put on this dress, transform and meet me downstairs.
My love always,
Adrien
P.S. The dress is yours to keep.
"That sly Kitty."
She turned to Tikki who tried to look innocent but Marinette had no doubts, this kwami knew everything.
"You knew didn't you?"
"No comment," her kwami replied.
Suddenly a black streak made its way across the room to join them.
"I have a message from Sir Soppy, he said he doesn't want to push you into something you're not ready for, so you can pass a message on through me if you want him to leave, or, if you want to, you can up and leave yourself." Plagg, ever the charmer, made his way over to the dress and began to look over at the intricate lace work. As notculant as he tried to be, Marinette could see the nervousness in his actions. If Marinette turned Adrien down she was quite sure he'd cataclysm something worthwhile, like her face.
"Give me fifteen minutes and I'll be down."
"Good." Plagg said as though he didn't care, however, as he turned around Marinette caught his smile in the reflection of the mirror and she couldn't help beaming one out herself too.
Sitting down at the dresser she got to work on her makeup, not too much, just enough to cover any blemishes. She wasn't a big makeup wearer, Adrien had always told her she oozed natural beauty. Has she ever not loved him?
Once happy with her makeup, she let down her hair and stepped into the dress before having a quick glance in the mirror. She looked good, if she did say so herself. The dress was one she'd admired numerous times whilst in the office. It was one of Gabriel's masterpieces from the mannequin outside of his office. One of his prized designs, and Adrien had got it for her.
A calf length white skirt hung perfectly thanks to the layers and layers of chiffon and netting holding it in place, it was very much a fifties style skirt. This was attached to a satin belt of the same colour before moving up to the bodice. It was tight fitting with chiffon work over the bust which then led to chiffon winged arms. It was stunning and she felt like an Angel.
"Oh, Marinette." Tikki flew around her wielder, tears brimming in the bottom of her eyes.
"I think ... I think I'm ready, Tikki." Marinette smiled at the small creature, her own eyes filling with emotions unknown.
"Just say the words."
"Tikki, spots on." In a flash of red light, Marinette was once again the famous heroine. The words Chat had said to her earlier suddenly made a lot of sense. Ladybug belonged to the city, but Marinette was his, just as Chat was hers. The world saw Adrien the model but there were so many parts which he'd kept just for her, and she loved him. She loved him more than anything.
Taking a deep breath she steadied her nerves and walked out the door. The lights had been turned off and she could see a faint glow emitting from the stairwell. Walking towards it she understood what it was, flickering of candles. She progressed to the stairs only to find all the kwami's out and sitting near a candle, how had they got there? She hadn't let them out the box. Then she remembered Plagg in her room, was that a distraction? What had the cat done this time?
Each kwami displayed a smile worthy of a thousand stars as she made her way down the stairs, the rose petal covered stairs. He'd done it again. Sir Soppy definitely fit his character well.
Finally reaching the bottom, a path of candles and red rose petals led her to the centre of the lounge, where a smiling cat was hiding in the shadows. Without his bright green eyes she doubted she'd have known he was there.
Marvelling at the scene in front of her, she was taken back to the night he proposed at the top of the Eiffel Tower, and her breath hitched.
I want to put it on your ungloved finger.
Her heart hammered, was he going to propose again, now? Was Adrien Agreste about to propose to little old Marinette Dupain-Cheng? The girl who stuttered and made a fool out of herself for years in front of him. The girl who asked him to get her constipation medicine? Lost in her own thoughts, her one leg (the broken one) decided at that moment to stop working, causing her to momentarily stumble forwards.
"Woah." Rushing forwards, Chat caught her in his arms, "looks like you're falling for me, M'Lady."
"You can't control yourself can you?"
"Not when it comes to you, Princess."
Right there and then, at that moment everything clicked. Adrien was Chat Noir, he was actually Chat Noir.
"You're an idiot in every form then?" She questioned.
He burst out laughing as he stood her up straight, taking her hands in his.
"This is beautiful." She said, indicating the impressive display he'd set up again.
"I wanted to do this right." He admitted, getting down on his left knee. "Are you ready?" He asked.
"Yes." Her voice was breathy, her heart thumping at an inhuman speed.
"Together?"
"Together."
The swirl of green and pink light mixed as they de transformed at the same time, leaving two young adults grinning at each other, the sudden emotional impact hitting them hard.
"I don't know why I'm crying." Adrien said, using his one hand to wipe his eyes, keeping her hand tightly in his other.
She laughed and wiped her own tears, as Tikki joined Plagg in the centre of the two. Both kwami's displaying their own emotional breakdowns. Who would have believed Plagg had feelings?
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, you have been a constant pain in my backside since the day you swung into me and called yourself madly clumsy. You then berated me on my first day at school, stole my phone and eventually, being the thief you are, you stole my heart."
She laughed at her fiancé, living each moment as he spoke.
"From a yo-yo, to an umbrella, to lucky charms, there are so many significant things that belong only to us. I'm not going to do another big proposal speech, you can wait for my wedding speech for my next big declaration of love."
She laughed again, how did she ever deserve this man? He was everything. She felt a snag on her neck, followed by a cackling from Plagg.
"Thank you buddy." Marinette watched as Plagg dropped her necklace into Adrien's hand, her breath halting in her lungs. "Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me, claws and all?"
There was no time for teasing, no time for anything else but showing the man currently on one knee how much she loved him. There were no second thoughts, no stutters, nothing holding her back.
"Yes," the words came out in teary sobs but she'd never been so sure of anything in her life. "Yes, yes, yes."
He placed the ring onto the finger of her ungloved left hand, just how he wanted to, before standing up and wrapping her into his arms. They held each other in a tight embrace, before she backed away to look at his tear filled eyes.
"I love you, Adrien Agreste."
"I love you too, Marinette Dupain-Cheng."
They met together in their first kiss as civilians, everything suddenly feeling so right. Adrien was first to break away, quirking his lips into his lopsided smile.
"So what was the message you left me on my phone before you stole it?"
A growl sounded from her throat as she tackled him onto the sofa, kissing him and kissing him, until he forgot what the question was he had asked her.
