chapter 27: stealing some food:)
Hey guys I submitted into the Watty's!
Hiccup's POV.
"...And--Oh, here we are, guys!" I exclaim, cutting off my story about the time I accidentally set fire to the barn back on Berk, as the island comes into view.
Toothless looks back at me.
"I .... to ..... .... the dragon deaths." He warbles, trying to tell me something.
"Oh...like tell the queen the dragon death count. Like, report it? O-Okay!" I say, figuring out roughly what he means as he flies through the tunnels.
Heh. Good thing I learnt the word 'death'.
We arrive inside the dark and creepy nest and Toothless lands on a ledge swiftly. We watch as all the dragons fly in and drop their catch. Luckily all the dragons had something this time, unlike when I first saw the nest.
I feel a shiver go down my spine at that memory.
After all the dragons fly to their perches Toothless flies down and drops the sheep, before turning and landing on the lowest ledge to speak. All the way back Wildfire and Toothless helped me with learning and revising their language a bit more, so I'll probably pick up on more of their conversation. I'm not sure if I want to, though.
TOOTHLESS' POV.
I land on the lowest ledge and almost immediately the queen speaks, my mind clouds over a bit as her words consume my mimd.
I hate her. So much.
"DEATH COUNT?"
"Six, my Queen. We lost a Zipppleback, two Nadders, a nightmare and two Gronkles. " I reply automatically because sometimes old habits die hard.
Hopefully you will be added to that list, You vile ugly beast.
"VERY WELL. THAT'S LESS THAN LAST TIME. YOUR HUMAN MAY BE USEFUL AFTER ALL! IF YOU DECEIVE ME YOU WILL PERISH" The Queen bellows harshly. I roll my eyes, glad she can't see me because I flinched when she spoke and I don't ever want to admit that, as she withdraws from my head (or rather I force her out).
Hiccup, sensing that we're done, opens my tail. So I soar up and out of the Nest, before the queen can change her fat mind, flying towards our little island.
We reach it within a few minutes and I swoop down slowly go touch down outside our cave entrance, Hiccup getting off after that so we can walk in side by side.
He has some viking food and gives me the last of the fish as I stretch my body and wings, yawning.
"We need to get more fish for you, Toothless." he speaks to me in his native language.
I do understand quite a lot of what he says—being the superior and smartest species, that is! But a few words or names I will admit that I don't understand, so he sometimes has to explain to me, like 'Forge' or 'Toothpick'. But I basically get the gist, and the more I am with him, the more I have found to understand!
"What, like, now?" I ask curiously, tilting my head as I retract my teeth.
Hiccup shrugs. "Well unless you want to wait to tomorrow."
"Eel No! I mean, okay, let's go!" I exclaim.
I don't want to go without fish. Fish is heaven. Fish is life...Fish is..fish.
Hiccup laughs joyfully in response as he hangs up what he calls a 'torch' on the cave wall, saving it for later I assume.
"Now! let's go now!" I warble eagerly, nudging Hiccup. He laughs again and he climbs on with the basket (after he empties it, but keeping the fishing contraption). We fly up into the air swiftly.
---++++++++++++++++++++++---
Hiccup's POV.
"Hey, bud. I know we have fish now but I need some more bread and some meat. I can't eat just fish like you can, I guess we're gonna have to sneak into Berk and grab some then..." I say, devastated, as I put the net full of fish into the basket. My hands shake slightly as I do up the lid, dreading over the thought of returning to that island. Oh gods, oh gods there's gotta be something better!
Toothless takes flight from a little sea stack we took a break on as I wring out the corner of my tunic slightly, watching the sea water that's left over trickle out.
Oh and not to mention Toothless dove into the ocean and caught some fish for himself in his mouth. I'm still wet from that, actually.
Ugh. I really didn't want to go back to Berk. Ever. Do I have to do this?!
"We have .. a .... ....., look!" Toothless says to me and gestures with his head down towards the ocean that is far far bellow. I look down to see a small lonely boat with plenty of supplies just out in the open, on the decks. Its maybe almost midday and we're flying pretty high in the sky, but just below the clouds, so I'm surprised that I didn't see it earlier. I was probably too busy panicking.
Thank gods Berk is out of the picture!
"Alright, good spot!" I cheer and Toothless grins, before moving closer and I run a and. Through my hair, going over pros and cons. "Be quick, bud!" I urge him after a few seconds.
I can't believe we're about to do this...
He zooms down, me keeping as low as I can in the saddle, as he keeps his eyes set on two out of the ten baskets on deck.
All the people in this boat must be down below deck. It really is our lucky day, if you could call it that!
Toothless swoops down and quickly grabs a basket in his paws....claws...yeah, claws...before twisting to the side so I can grab the other in my hands. Once I grab it and have a good grip on it, we fly a little away. The one with the fish is over my shoulders and so this one is now in front of me.
"Lets make it look like it accidentally washed overboard on a big wave!" I whisper to Toothless, so he dips over and dives towards the water. I hold my breath quickly, clinging to the basket.
He plunges into the cool water and then back out the other side of the boat in a matter of seconds. As I hoped, he created a big enough splash to rock the small boat and spill a little bit of water on board. We shake off water droplets after we are out.
"Good job, bud!" I exclaim as we fly away as quickly as possible.
"I guess we had better get back, though..." I say to him after a few seconds of thinking.
We fly off into the distance, not wasting time since we have about an hour and a halves flight, and not to mention we did just do a raid.
if we don't make it back in time then we're doomed. I can't navigate at night, because unfortunately I didn't pay attention when I was taught how to measure stars.
Or it was more like 'you're measuring the stars, not giving the sky a high five!' From Gobber, letting me know bluntly I can't navigate. As you can tell, he's always been a big supporter to me.
Well, I mean on second thought, Toothless would be fine, He is not called a NIGHT Fury for nothing. But still. I'd feel a lot better if I could see. Besides Toothless has adapted to my steeping pattern, which I fell a bit guilty about, so he could possibly fall asleep mid flight and that simply speaks disaster.
I bring myself out of my thoughts.
"We still have to work out a way to take the She-beast down." I sadly mutter, referring to the Queen. Toothless croons in agreement, gliding calmly across the sky and only flapping his wings every twenty seconds or so.
"lets see....she doesn't leave her mountain, she relies on the raids, so...." I begin, brainstorming.
"She .. all ... dragons she .. get..." Toothless notes, and I nod, gett big What he means.
"So what if we were to.." I say thoughtfully, and Toothless obviously knows where I'm going.
"Train more and more .. them .. ..." He says.
"Until the queen has zero left....And while she looses numbers..." I add, a thinking tone in my voice.
"We can ... the .... dragons as deaths!" He finishes.
"Yes! Let's do it!" I cheer. "Starting: next raid!"
You're going down, your Majesty!
----------
Astrid's POV.
After a few hours of rowing we stop to rest, the clam ocean only rocking the host slightly, Berk not in sight (which makes me a little nervous—I've never gone so far out that I can't see Berk).
"Now can I eat?!" Tuff exclaims as we all head down below deck, we let out some fishing nets as well so we might possibly catch some extra food.
"Geez, fine, fine! I'm all for it if it'll make you just shut up!" Randi exclaims and tosses Tuff some bread. He snatches it out of the air.
"MMM, FOOD!" He exclaims.
He tears into it savagely like he hasn't eaten in five days. I groan quietly and roll my eyes.
Eh, that's Tuffnut for you.
~~fifteen minutes later~~
We are all just below deck now, just hanging, when suddenly a big wave hits and a splash sound happens. I grab the wall next to me for support.
"Er.....is that...good?" Tuff hesitates his eating.
"Umm, no. I don't think so!" Fishlegs replies with a whimper.
"Its kinda odd, but hey, the oceans the ocean I guess!" Randi exclaims.
"They DO say that every tenth wave is the biggest." Fishlegs adds helpfully.
"Guys....did we have anything tied down?" I ask, realisation hitting me like a boulder.
"Umm....No." Fishlegs squeaks. Tuff almost drops his bread in shock. Everyone's eyes widen in panic and we rush above deck as an awkward, stampeding and tripping herd.
"Almost everything is still here, at least!" I notice, letting out a breath of relief as I look around.
"Yeah, but we lost two baskets. Let's just tie everything down in case it happens again." Randi suggests. Everyone agrees and we quickly tie down everything that isn't attached already.
"So..may I ask, are we just going to just be sailing around for a little...or are we never gonna see land ever again?" Tuff asks while waving his bread, that he still has.
"Good point. Who votes for finding an island?" I say, fastening a crate down.
Snotlout, the twins, Fishlegs and Randi raise their hands, same with me, so in short we all agree.
"Alright! Land it is. So, I guess we'll just keep going until we find something." I shrug.
Then, some wind picks up.
It must be our lucky day.
"Snotlout, release the sail!" I exclaim and he does so, grunting as he undoes a rope.
"Ruffnut and Fishlegs can you bring in the fishing nets! Take care of the fish!" Randi adds and Ruff and Fishlegs bring in the three nets. A few fish are there- that'll be our dinner. "Tuffnut you take the...Uh, ship steering ..thingy." I add, forgetting what the thing is actually called.
"Great, I can use the oil in my hair!" Ruff exclaims happily. I shoot her a confused and disgusted look.
Who would use fish oil in their hair?!
I make my way towards the front of the boat with Randi.
"This is some pretty good wind, we might find land soon!" I exclaim, eying the horizon.
"Yeah, this is great! " Randi smiles.

Hey, thanks for reading.
Oh and I'm definitely not sorry about the Moana reference😂
I've been noticing that a lot of people have been adding my book to their reading lists lately (Yay!) so I try to follow you all, but if I miss a notification or whatever then I'm sorry.
Oh Yeah, and if you're not sure Dragonese (the language of the dragons if you haven't read the books) is in "bold". While Hiccup's normal language, the Viking language, is in "just this normal" but I recon you know this anyway :)
Okay, okay, One last thing, I'm gonna add quotes that are random or not at the end of each chapter.
I'll start it off by this:
My mum (last year, in the car at like 10 pm listening to the radio and a really crap song comes on that sounds like screeching): God..really? I may as well smash my head into a brick wall! UGH!
Me: don't use the car to do it. I wanna live to see the final Httyd movie!
Bye:)
