I know that I say this all the time but it really is very important!

First of all...what exactly are vampires?

You hear stories about vampires a lot these days but they're all sappy romances. Somehow with all these stories people got the idea that vampires are sparkly, 'tame' creatures that only feed on animal blood.

Sadly, nope.

I mean sure, there can be 'tame' vampires that drink animal blood but mostly it's just bad.

They're like humans but with fangs and evil intentions. They have bad auras and they drink blood, preferably human, to stay 'alive'. They are technically dead but they walk. They're immortal and they can live basically forever.

Do they burn in the sun?

Yes, to an extent but not as much as all the vampire stories say.

Vampires get bad sunburns but they don't turn to dust as soon as the sun hits them!

Garlic?

Not necessarily.

Garlic hasn't been proven to ward of vampires but there's a theory about the story of garlic and vampires.

Vampires have heightened sense so the story could originate from the fact that garlic smells bad to vampires. So when the vampire smelled it, he was malt likely not bothered enough to go through the smell to his victim. After all, there are plenty of people in the world.

Think about this. If there's plenty of food in the fridge and one orange is rotten and smells bad then you would go for the other oranges and food.

That's just an example but it's a good representation of what it looks like to vampires.

Wooden stake?

This hasn't exactly been proven but wooden stakes don't really work, at least from my knowledge.

So how do you defeat one then?

So far, beheading is the best option for now.

If I find any other information then I'll be sure to write it down here but for now I don't have much experience.

What do you do if you see one?

As usual, it depends on what it's doing.

If the vamp is going for you then you should run like hell, but that won't do much good as most as really fast and will catch you before you can get very far.

Your best hope would be a holy object.

Vampires can't touch or come close to holy objects so find something from church or anything that's been in church or been baptised.

Once you have a holy object then put it on yourself or show it to the vamp. The vamp will either run away or it won't be able to touch you.

Why do holy objects work on vamps?

They work because vampires are evil and have an evil aura. Evil can't touch holy things because they aren't pure.

That's probably the simplest explanation I can give.

How can you spot one?

It's very hard since they look exactly like humans. You can spot one by looking out for any signs.

Vampires will wear hats, sunglasses or any sun protection because they get burned by the sun much easier than humans.

Vampires might look like they're in pain in a large crowd. That's because they might crave blood when around so many people. People are a food source for most vampires.

Vampires might have unusual eyes, possibly red.

They might also speak like they're from another time. They will use very old words that aren't really recognised in this time.

They might also act unusual.

Those are probably one of the only signs. Maybe also that they like the darkness and dark things.

Why all these sappy romance novels and movies on vampires?

Teens find it 'cool' for someone to have a relationship with a 'bad boy' or 'bad girl'. Most teens like to be connected with danger and so all these stories were raised.

People also want to make a 'friendly' story about how the bad isn't that bad and that it doesn't necessarily have to hurt you.

Yes, there are some good monsters
but they're very rare and they stay hidden. Don't ever think that you're safe when you see a creature like that, because you're not.
