For the past ten minutes, I've been sitting in an ambulance with a shock blanket covering my shoulders. I'm covered in dirt and blood. Police have been trying to get me to say something, anything to help them catch the guy, but I don't. Paramedics stand in a small circle, discussing my condition.
It was a cold, dark night, and I was with my older brother. He had just gotten out of the military and wanted to take me to meet his girlfriend. We had just stopped to get some gas. I'm pretty sure it was almost ten o' clock. I remember a blizzard was just starting, the wind was picking up and it was snowing pretty bad. My brother had to go inside to pay because the machine wasn't working, thankfully, he kept the car running because it was 14° out. I had rested my head on the side of the car seat, listening to Toby Mack, when my brother got back into the car. Or, who I assumed was my brother. He was the same height, the same build. He even had the same haircut. I was for sure it was him, but it wasn't; unfortunately for me, I had also fallen a sleep a few minutes after the gas station stop.
I lean my head back. This blanket isn't doing a very good job. One of the younger paramedics, if I had to guess, he probably just graduated, walks over to me and sits down. He looks exhausted. His name tag reads Reese. I stare at him, unsure of what to do. He reminds me of my brother, and even worse, my kidnapper, with his thick hair cropped short, and his sparkling blue eyes, and that smile that could brighten your mood no matter what. I turn my back on him. I can't stand see what I'm trying so hard to forget.
