you say; i can fix the broken in your heart

invidia et benevolentia

invidia

They say, envy is the worst sin out of all the other sins. It consumes you from the inside-out, like fire and ice, working together. A double-edged sword. Poison.

And for years, he'd believed what they'd said. That he wasn't meant to be anything useful; just something that hinders everything, harming himself and other people at the same time.

Spectacularly powerful and useless at the same time.

Thus, in the years that he had ruled as the second-most-powerful-sin, he'd stopped. He'd stopped using his skill and developing his powers.

Instead, he'd subconsciously suppressed it.

Until he's actually powerless, facing the world with a heart that had not felt in over a thousand years and only one skill that he remembered.

Then he met his rival, someone with sweet promises and equally sweet fulfilments of said promises.

And her promise to him was,

I'll be with you until the end, even beyond that. No matter how broken you are, no matter how weak you are, I will be there. I will not leave.

She fulfilled it, she really did.

It's just him who doesn't deserve it.

"Kindness? I'm sorry."

benevolentia

Kindness tried so hard to live up to her name. It came naturally to her, it does, but at times, she forgot. She forgot to be kind to herself.

In her actions of being kind to other people, she drained herself. She loved people—she loved mortals and spirits alike—but because she is kind, she let them go.

Everyone passed by her like a blur, like morning dew before sunlight touched the leaf, like mist at the cold dawn just before the sun comes up.

Momentarily.

So, she cherished everything, held everyone close to her heart, because she doesn't know when they'll be taken away.

Then, she met her rival, filled with malice, so spiteful, and oh so broken and lonely.

But kindness heals.

She reached out to him, in the middle of battles, wanting him to open up and let her help, let her heal him, let him receive kindness for once in his life.

And so, she promised.

I'll be with you until the end, even beyond that. No matter how broken you are, no matter how weak you are, I will be there. I will not leave.

But she failed to fulfil it.

It's just that Envy doesn't deserve this. He deserves so much better.

"Kindness? I'm sorry."
