The next morning, haveli was once again hustling-bustling in preparations. All other cousins, some from the maternal and paternal side arrived at the haveli to help with the preparations.
Girls were gossiping about the makeup brands, discussing what to wear and what would go perfectly with it, while the boys were all over the stage which was a set up in the backyard as only 2 days were left for the nikkah.
The haveli was full with the smell of flower, henna and all types mithai which were brought up for taste testing.
Sahaan was with her dadi, they both were planning to stop the nikkah!
"you don't worry about it my child, leave it in my hands, I know what to do!" Her dadi says to a tensed Sahaan.
"Par dadi bohot kam time bacha hai, sirf do din hai hamare paas." Her voice was laced with tension.
(But we have very less time, only 2 days)
"Aap befikr rahiye meri jaan, hume bohot acche se pata hai Tuba jaise ladkiyo ko kya chahiye hota hai, you just do one thing, try reviving Ahmed's emotions which are deeply embedded in his heart under the cruel words of his mother."
(Relax sweetheart, I know very well how tackle Tuba I know what she wants)
Dadi's voice cracks up at the end, her eyes tearing up thinking how ruthless his grandson has turned because of his own mother.
Sahaan gets up sensing her dadi's sad mood and hugs her from back,
"Ab aap befikr hojaye dadi, hum aapko aapka purana Ahmed dilakar rahenge."
(Dont worry dadi, you will get your old ahmed back)
Her grandmother kisses her forehead, blessing her.
Tuba was called at haveli to select her jewelry.
Her eyes lit up with greed seeing all pushtaini gold, she belonged to a middle class family she was very greedy for a luxurious life, seeing Sahaan having all this made her jealous of her own cousin.
Amrah is sitting beside her, eyeing her with distaste.
Dadi entered the room and her anger reaches heights seeing all her pushtaini sets outside.
"Ayesha! kiski ijazat se aapne ye sets nikale aapne?" She sternly asks her eldest daughter in law.
(With whose permission did you brought these sets out)
"Ammi woh...maine socha, Ahmed ki dulhan ko bhi.." She stutters, afraid of her mother-in-law's reaction
(mother that..I though, Ahmed's wife shou...)
"Ghalat socha aapne! Aapko bohot acche se pata hai sirf hamare khandan ki bacchiyo ke liye hai, koi aire gairey ke liye nahi." Dadi says emphasizing on hamare.
(You thought wrong! you are very well aware that these jewelry will only go to our children not for some outsiders)
she calls Sahaan and Isra, telling them to take the sets in her room and Amrah will choose them there itself.
"Aajj se ye hamare paas hi rahenge, koi zaroorat nahi hai locker me rakhwane ki." She says to Ayesha and leaves behind Sahaan and Isra, followed by Amrah who shakes her head at her mother.
(From now onwards I'll keep them. No need for keeping them in a locker.)
Tuba was seething in anger.
Dadi, along with the three of them enters her room
"I noticed something in her eyes when she was eyeing all this jewelry, her eyes were gleaming with greed." She says to her granddaughters who nod their heads at her, agreeing with her.
"I know what I've to do know, Sahaan I want you to choose some sets from this for yourself too. "
"But dadi, I'm not getting married, as far as I know we get these sets when we are getting married." she asks her dadi, confused!
"Do what I'm saying and after selecting go and check upon Ahmed, tell him I'm calling him." Sahaan nods her head and leaves the room after selecting her set.
While walking towards her room checking the lock of the boxes she bumps into someone, stumbling back. she looks up to see Tuba seething in anger and jealousy looking at her boxes.
"Happy now? After snatching my right and happiness?" She grits her teeth in anger.
"I didn't snatch anything from you. This was given to me by dadi herself and what was taken from you was never yours and dadi herself took that from you, not me!" She says blankly looking at her.
"Rehnde do, I'm sure tumne hi dadi se kaha hai. Mero khushiyo se jalti jo ho tum." She says coming closer to her.
(let it be, I'm sure you told something to dadi against me. As always, you're jealous of my happiness)
"Baccho jaisi baat na karo Tuba." She sighs looking at her.
(stop talking like a child Tuba.)
"You.." She comes closer to Sahaan but someone pulls Sahaan back, stopping Tuba from whatever she was about to do.
"Kya ho raha hai yaha par?" Hammad says holding Sahaan's arm.
(What's going on here?)
Sahaan was about to say something but was interrupted by Tuba.
"Nothing Hammad, I was just telling her to take care of her guests, she is so irresponsible!" Tuba says in her sickly sweet voice, faking a smile at them.
"Yeah right! Everyone knows who is responsible and who is not." He says in a 'duh' tone narrowing his eyes at her and drags Sahaan from there.
"Kyu ghaas daalti ho yaar usey? Uske mu na lago na." Hammad was frustrated at Tuba's doings, trying his best to protect his beloved sister from that cunning witch.
(Why do you talk with her? Don't face her at all na.)
"What do? Wo samne aati hai toh khoon khaulta hai, uska mu noch ne ko dil chahta hai, badi aayi responsibility sikhane wali." She mimics her angrily.
(My blood boils seeing her, I want to punch her face, she wants to teach me how to be responsible? )
"Calm down meri jungli billi. Pata nahi tere shohar ka kya hoga. Kaise sambhalega iss jungli billi ko?" Hammad laughs at her.
(My wild cat, I don't know how your husband will handle you. how will he handle a wild cat like you?)
"Hammad ke bacche, zuban ko lagam de warna chachi se shikayat laga dungi!" Saying this she punches him in his stomach.
(Mind your tongue, or else I'll complain to aunt.)
"Oufff! you zaalim ladki, badtameez ladki, pagal ladki, aisa kon maarte hai apne bhai ko, aur bada hu tujhse! bhai bola kar." He says faking anger and frowns looking at her rubbing his stomach.
(You cruel girl, impolite girl, mad girl, who punches their brother like this? and call me bhai . I'm older than you.)
"Bhains ko bhai kyu bolega koi?" She says and sashays towards her room.
(Why will anyone call a cow, brother)
Hammad whines at her stomping his foot and runs behind her yelling at her, to call him bhai!
She keeps the boxes in her almirah and locks the almirah, taking keys with her, to give it to dadi so she can safely keep them without being scared that Tuba can take them anytime and her tayi won't leave a chance to call Sahaan a thief.
"Chal kahi bahar chalte hai." Hammad says jumping on her bed, balancing his head on his hand.
(Come let's go somewhere. )
She rolls her eyes at his antics, he was 24 but behaved like a 4 year old boy.
"Nahi mujhe bohot saare kaam hai, aap jayen ya uss chamak challo ko lejaye." She teasingly smiles at him.
(No! I have a lot of work, you go or better take that Tuba with you.)
"Haha! Very funny." He sarcastically says, giving her a blank look and marches out of her room.
She shakes her head at him, smiling at his harkatein, and leaves her room to call the tiger residing in his cave.
She reaches his door which is two doors away from her room and knocks at the door, hearing a come in she enters his room, as she enters his room, his cologne hits her with full force due to the windows being opened allowing the air to enter in his room.
She spots him standing in-front of the mirror in his soon to be wedding sherwani, fixing his collar and cuffs again and again, irritated.
"Ammi can't I wear a suit rather than this stupid dress, it is so itchy." He whines like a child, thinking its his mother at the door, as no one except his mother and father knocks at his door, his sisters just barge at his room as if they own it.
(A/N: kisko heavy dresses itchy lagte hai.)
She chuckles seeing his face, he turns towards the door not hearing his mother and angrily frowns when he sees Sahaan smiling. Thinking that she was laughing at his poor efforts of wearing his sherwani.
"Bohot khil khila rahi ho? khushi hui jaan kar ke meri takleef me tumhe khushi hoti hai. Itna hi hai toh come and you fix it." He rudely tells her who stops smiling hearing his words.
(You're laughing way too much, happy to know that you get happy seeing me in misery, if its like that come and fix this.)
She saunters towards him and starts fixing his cuffs silently, hurt by his words.
He didn't know that it was all Sahaan's prayers which stopped the evil to even look at him, it was her prayers which kept him healthy, fit and fine. It was her prayers which prevented his loss from anything, it was her prayers which gave him all the happiness in the world.
She moves her hand towards his collar to fix it, unable to fix it standing on her tippy toes he bends down seeing he struggling to reach his 6'1 frame with her 5'5 frame and holds her from her waist, seeing her standing too far for his liking.
"Oh so now you want her to stand close to you? after hurting her." his inner battle with his heart starts again!
Sahaan who was shocked by his doing suddenly stops fixing his collar, all she could feel the tingles from his hand on her waist shooting up to her spine.
"Jaldi karo aur dafa ho yaha se." Ahmed tells her when he notices that she stopped fixing his collar.
(Hurry up and get lost from here.)
She continued her work with shaky hands, eyes tearing up at his harsh words.
She finishes her work and tries to leave but is pulled back by Ahmed, which in result makes her collide with his chest, she keeps her hand and tries to push him back but he doesn't even budge.
"Bataya nahi tumne, khushi hoti haina tumhe hum sab ko takleef me dekh kar? Haan?" He jerks her more towards him.
(You didn't tell me, you get happy right seeing all of us in misery?)
Looking up at him her teary hazel green eyes collide with his stormy grey ones, she moves her hand from his chest to his collar giving it a last fix.
"khush fehmi hai aapki khan sahab! ghour se dekhenge toh sab pata chal jayega, lekin kya kare insaan ki fitrat hoti hai. Jab usse wo cheez chinn jaati hai jab usey pata chalta hai." She whispers at him.
(You're wrong Mr khan, look carefully then you will get to know everything, but what to do it is a human tendency to start respecting and valuing things when its gone from their hands.)
Shock flashes through his eyes seeing the intensity in her eyes and his arms loosen around her waist, Sahaan escapes easily from there.
He turns towards the mirror and sees his sherwani fixed perfectly, frown etched on his face remembering her words.
She runs towards her room, entering and locking behind her, trying to keep her tears at bay.
"It's of no use, don't cry! dont cry because of him." She mutters still trying to keep her tears in, pacing here and there.
She tries hard to keep her tears at bay but at the end they break out, she palms her face, softly sobbing.
~~
Tuba barges in Ahmed's room, sobbing, her face flushed. Anyone can guess that she was faking it but Ahmed who was starting to like her(his inner self snickers at him, "more like forced") and was as innocent as a deer thought she was actually crying.
"What's wrong Tuba?" He worriedly asks.
She throws herself at him and sobs loudly. Ahmed cringes at it and tries to detach her from himself.
"Uh-oh! why are you crying whats wrong? He asks again trying to push her.
"Hammad was right yaar she is a chipkali, she practically glued herself to you." And for the first time he agrees with his subconscious.
"Sahaan!" She tells him and continues with her fake sobs.
On hearing Sahaan's name his body stiffens and fists his hand, seeing his reaction Tuba smirks knowing her plan was successful.
"What did she do?" He asks her in a firm voice.
"Aunty was giving me one of hers pushtaini gold sets, but Sahaan brought dadi there and she stopped Aunty from giving them to me, and dadi instead gave them to her in front of my eyes, I also heard Sahaan saying that not to give me anything, why is she doing this with me? I love her like my own sister!" She tells him trying to bring out more tears.
Ahmed burns with anger hearing her words
"You go to your room, I'll see what's going okay?" she nods at him and leaves the room smirking, wiping her tears.
"jayen jayen! mera kaam toh hogaya ab dekhte kaise bachti hai madam sahiba."
(Go go! my work is done, no who'll save her from his wrath.)
Meanwhile, Ahmed is bubbling up in anger, his whole form shaking hearing what Sahaan did to his soon to be wife.
"First dadi favored her more than other grandchildren, she destroyed my mothers peace! has wrapped my dad around her finger. Ab bas! bohot ho gaya! know no one will be able to save you from me! bohot hogayi Sahaan bibi ki mann maani." He mutters angrily and rushes towards Sahaan's room to teach her a lesson.
