The Doctor is Coming to Town - Part 1
* Elizabeth's POV *
My eyes fly open. That was undoubtfully the sound of the Tardis. But that can't be, right? The Doctor isn't real and neither is his Tardis. I throw a look aside to look at Steve, but he's still sleeping. Perhaps it was just my imagination? I bite my lip and then decide to get out of bed anyway. I probably can't sleep if I don't follow where the sound had come from. I throw the blankets away, not that fast because I don't want to wake Mr. America, and get out of bed. Quickly I put some black sweatpants on and cover myself in a warm red vest. I step in my slippers and with I jawn I step outside my bedroom. I try to remember where the sound had come from - if it even had been real -, had it come from outside or inside the building? I close my eyes and then decide it had come from inside, a few floors down perhaps.
I thought wrong.
When I turn around the corner of the hallway to go to the staircase, the blue police box stands right in front of me. My jaw drops, impossible. The Doctor isn't real, right? This is just a joke from Tony...? Carefully I walk around the blue box, inspecting it very closely when suddenly the door opens with a swing. Startled I take a few step back and, believe me or not, the Tenth Doctor steps outside. His forehead is a bit rimpled in confusion and I throw a look over his shoulder to look inside. If this is a joke from Tony, it's a bloody good one because it really is bigger on the inside. The brown eyes of the Doctor suddenly spot me and he steps outside his Tardis.
"O, hello."
"Hello?" I greet back, not quite sure how to react. I mean, it's supposed to be just a tv show.
"So sorry to disturb you. D'you live here?" he asks and I nod.
"Ah I see..." He's quiet for a moment and I observe him closely. The resemblance with the Tenth Doctor of the series is remarkable. He wears his long coat and his hair is as messy as always. "I'm the D-,"
"Doctor," I finish for him and I can't help to fangirl a bit inside. It really is him! I don't know how but it is.
"Y-yes. How did you know?" he asks curious.
"But you're not supposed to be real." I say.
"I'm sorry?"
"You're a tv show."
"I am not," the Doctor answers indignantly. Then it clicks, parallel worlds. Perhaps the Doctor did something wrong and the Tardis brought him to another parallel universe? Well, there's only one way to find out.
"Where do you think you are?" I question him and he puts a finger in his mouth, wetting it and holding it up in the air.
"Hmm, I'm guessing... 2015?"
I quirk an eyebrow. "That's not what I meant, you can read that from your monitor in the Tardis."
Confused he stares at me. "Have we met? We've met, haven't we? I just can't remember," he mutters. I shake my head. "No, we haven't met. There's a serie about you. But I asked: where do you think you are?"
He turns around slowly, taking in his surroundings.
"You're in the Avengers Tower," I say after a while. He stops spinning and his eyes grow big.
"Avengers Tower? You mean... That building full with superheroes? But that's impossible, you guys are not real."
I glance at him, smirking and then he utters a small 'Ah' when it clicks in his mind too. He takes out his sonic screwdriver and points it at me, it starts wizzing and buzzing as he moves it up and down.
"Fascinating," he mumbles when he stares at the readings of the screwdriver.
"Well, thanks," I answer teasingly and he blushes. "That, that's not what I meant." And I let out a chuckle.
"So... Let's do a head up here," he starts, getting himself back together and swinging around with his sonic screwdriver. "In your world I'm a tv show, and you lads are in my world comics and movies."
Movies, eh? Sweet. "Really?" I ask to be sure and he nods. I think about it all for a moment. The Doctor in his tenth or eleventh regeneration but more I don't know. Who's his companion now? Or is he alone? Has he met Dr. River Song already? Or not yet? If I want to talk to him further, I have to be very careful with what I say. Timey wimey stuff, I think. I could interfere with his future and then everything changes. But... Perhaps the series aren't even really what has happened to him. Now I think of that, that would be quite impossible. How could the series be an exact replica of his life? But then again, he looks exactly the same as in the tv show. How do I find out what is the truth, and of course... Why is he here?
"So, um. Doctor, why are you here?" I ask him and he focusses his glance back at me.
"Well..." he starts but then his voice fades away, as if he don't know how to answer.
"Were you... Were you trying to find Rose?" I help him, I think that's quite safe to ask since he did get in a parallel world. At least, my guts tells me it has something to do with her. What else could be the odds of him stumbling across another parallel universe?
He hesitates for a moment. "How much do you know?"
"I can't tell... Spoilers." I look carefully at him when I say that but I don't see any recognition in his eyes. So he hasn't met River yet, noted.
"Very well. Yes, I was trying to get to her world but something went wrong and I ended up here. Well, it didn't quite go wrong, she just went to the wrong alternate universe I suppose."
"But that means the power cell of the Tardis is... Well, dead. Right? If I remember correctly." Series two and three is long way away in my mind. "She can't handle that much."
Concern is written all over his face and worried he throws a look over his shoulder at the blue box behind him. "Yes... But last time I found a single power cell that was still working."
"You think there's one now too?" He just shrugs and opens the Tardis again, stepping inside. I follow him and look around. Seeing something in real life is quite different than on a television.
The Doctor has already opened a room under the control panel of the Tardis and is taking some things out of it. He's searching for a power cell that's still sort of working, I realize. I walk to him and crouch down and inspect a thingy he took out of it.
"Don't touch it," he says without looking up and I drop it again.
"Sorry... Although, I can't do anything to it, it's not working."
He's quiet for a while. Completely ignoring me and inspecting the tools of the Tardis. "You know, I never caught your name," he then says.
"I thought there were movies and comics about us in your universe?" I ask.
"You're not in it." Suprised I raise my eyebrows, well... Great.
"Really? Never heard of the Lioness? Elizabeth Hart?" He stops taking out instruments and looks in the distance, staring into nothing. "Nope," he answers and he continues searching for a still living power cell. I cross my arms and grumble something. Well, that sucks.
"Ha! Yes, that could work!" he suddenly shouts while I'm still lost in thoughts, and startled I jump back on my feet.
"What? What could work?" I ask him eager.
He's just about to answer when a voice - or more like a scream - reach our ears.
"Holy crap! I knew I've heard the Tardis." I turn around to look at the entrance and I see Skyler and Megan standing in the opening.
~
* Skyler's POV *
I toss and turn around in my bed. Something had woken me a few minutes ago and now I can't back to sleep. Why does that always happen to me? I let out a sigh and pull up the blankets so high I'm lying completely under it.
When I'm drifting away to sleep again, somewhere on the line between awake and asleep I realize what had woken me up. It had been a sound... A very familiair sound, even though it isn't real. The sound of the Tardis. My eyes shoot back open and I throw the blankets away. I jump into some clothes and set course towards Megan's chamber.
Gosh, I'm hoping they don't do anything inappropiate... Tony and Megan, I mean. Softly I knock on the door and I open it, peaking inside. They're asleep. I let my eyes get used to the dark and walk to Megan.
"Meg," I whisper and I grab her shoulders to shake her a little so that she would wake up. "Meg," I say again when she mutters something and then she's awake.
"Skyler? What is it?"
"I've heard the Tardis!"
"The what?" I roll my eyes and smack her shoulder softly.
"Ey! What was that for?"
"For not knowing what the Tardis is! Come on!" I say and I walk back to the door. I hear a sigh and some noise, probably Megan getting out of bed.
I walk to Elizabeth's room but when I look inside, I see she's already out of bed. And she haven't even woken us! I turn back around and see Megan coming out of her room. Her eyes look tired but I grab her hand and drag her along. We're going to look for the blue police box, I'm sure I've heard it.
To be honest, it didn't take long to find it.
When we turn around the corner to go to the staircase, the blue box is standing right in front of us. The door to the Tardis is open and with a big smile I look inside. It really is... smaller on the outside! Ha, you didn't see that coming, eh?
"Holy crap!" I yell. "I knew I've heard the Tardis."
Elizabeth and the Doctor were standing around the control panel and a bit startled they turn around to see us. Tools are scattered all around them on the floor.
"Soundwave and Megan," the Doctor greets us in awe and I'm a bit confused but happy. How does he know us? I walk further inside and drag Megan along with me.
"H-how's this even possible?" she whispers in my ear and I chuckle. It must be indeed a bit weird when you don't know Doctor Who. "It's bigger on the inside," she continues and the Doctor laughs.
Meanwhile we've reached the control panel and the Doctor takes my hand, shaking it fiercely.
"So you do know them but you've never heard of me?" Elizabeth asks a bit disappointed.
"Yes, yes I do. They even write fanfictions about them." Puzzled I look at him. He does look exactly the same as in the series. I wonder how that's even possible. I throw a look at Elizabeth and she must have known what I was thinking and she mimes 'Alternate universe'. Ah well, yes that explains it. I notice all the lights of the Tardis are down and the only light is coming from outside the hallway and some back-up lights. I realize the Tardis must be... dead. That sounds harsh but she really is. She isn't supposed to travel to different universes. She must have fallen out of the Time Vortex, or perhaps not? I raise a questioning eyebrow to the Doctor. Did he land here on purpose?
"He was trying to find Rose," Elizabeth explains.
"O, right... But that also means there's a gap in the Void now. Are the Daleks coming? Cybermen? Weeping Angels!?" My heart drops a bit by that last option. I always thought the Weeping Angels are the most scary aliens from the series.
"Weeping Angels?" the Doctor repeats confused. I put a hand in front of my mouth, he doesn't know that yet. Spoilers.
"The Tardis is not supposed to travel through the Void," I try to change the subject. "You know that, Doctor. You shouldn't have tried."
"I know... But I think I know a way to get the Tardis working again."
"Good. Because you have to close the gap in the Void from the other side. The longer you're here, the more risk our world is in. Although I'm quite glad I've got to meet you Doctor," I add. I don't want to sound too cocky and having seen the Doctor in real life is just mindblowing.
"You're right. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." I can't believe he just said that, I didn't know I could even fangirl.
"You all know a way to travel to Asgard, right?" the Doctor continues and I nod, just like the others. "From what I've read Asgard is more connected to the rest of the universe than any other place. If I find the most spiritual spot on Asgard, I can recharge the Tardis."
I frown, that does sound a bit weird but when did Doctor Who ever make sense? It's worth a try, I suppose.
"I'm sure Heimdall will beam us up but how do we get the Tardis outside?" Elizabeth asks.
"How do you mean? Why outside?" the Doctor responds.
"The BifrΓΆst always has to be fixed outside."
"Oh, I know something," I say. "I can blast a hole in the building with my soundwave and then we can push the Tardis outside." It's mostly a joke but they take it serious.
"I don't think Tony will be happy with a hole in the wall," Megan says.
"And not to forget we're very high, the Tardis will fall all the way down then," Elizabeth responds.
"Yeah, I'm not happy about that," the Doctor adds and I chuckle.
"I was just kidding, guys. We can call Diamond?" I suggest with a shrug.
"Black Diamond?" the Doctor gasps and I nod. I didn't know the Doctor could fangirl. Uhm, fanboy. Haha, pun.
"That's a good idea. You call her, I'll call Iris."
"Iris? Iris Laufeyson?" the Doctor asks curious and she nods slowly. "So you do know all of them and not me? Ugh, why?" I stare at her, what does she mean?
"Apperently I do not exist in the movies and comics of his universe," she answers when she notices my expression.
"Oh okay. Weird," I state and she nods but then just shrugs. "Ah well, let's get Di over here."
Yes, great idea. The longer the Doctor is here... Well, let's not think about that. I take out my phone and dial the number of Diamond. I hope I can reach her, after all it's only four in the morning. Perhaps she always set her phone on silent...
~
A/N: Yay, part 1! Part 2 shall be in Asgard, obviously ;)
I wonder if I have impersonated the Doctor well enough? Can you hear him talking, can you see him? I've never described the Doctor, perhaps it sucks... Sorry 'bout that if that's so. Still, I hope you all liked it :)
