Mending Her Heart
PROLOGUE
Madeline POV:
I was sitting on the bench in the school garden, staring at the kids. They were all begging their parents not to leave them, some were clutching their father's leg and some were holding their mom's hand like they were afraid she'll leave them.
But one boy out of all the other kids caught my attention. He wasn't crying like other kids, he wasn't begging his parents not to leave him; he was smiling with the mischievous twinkle in his blue eyes like he was promising them that he will have a fun day.
I noticed he has a pretty blonde hair with brown streaks in them. It was a unique combination but it looked good on him. His cheeks were chubby and rosy making him look cute. I wanted to go and say hi to him but I stopped myself and grasped the base of bench.
His mother kneeled down and kissed his temple. His dad also kneeled down beside his mom and said something to the boy. The boy nodded his head excitedly and hugged them. At that moment, I wished my parents were here with me, biding me goodbye on first day of school instead of Emma. She just left me outside the school and told me to follow other kids.
I noticed his parents and teacher asked him to come inside the class. It was time for me to go inside the class too, but I was afraid to go inside and meet new kids.
Will they hurt me like Delia? I asked myself.
I hope not because it's my first day of school and I want to remember as a good memory so I got up from the bench and made my way inside the class.
Every kid in the class was staring at the toys section in the class. I rolled my eyes which I learned from my mom. I decided to sit at the back. Then my eyes landed on the boy who I saw outside, sitting few rows ahead of me with the girl dressed in pink jacket. He said something to the girl and she smiled shyly.
I didn't know what I felt but it was bad. I felt bad seeing them together and talking.
The girl was beautiful. She has blue eyes darker than the boy she was talking. Her hair color was white blonde and she was wearing jeans and pink jacket. I never liked pink color so I I didn't like what she was wearing.
The teacher entered in the class and asked our names then she asked us about our likes and dislikes.
I didn't hear what other kids said but when the boy started talking my focus was on him.
"My name is Brandon. I'm five years old, love ice cream and play football". He said with the smile.
After knowing that he likes Football, I started to like him more. Football was a special sport for me, my dad and I used to play football every weekend when he was still alive.
A girly voice pulled me out of my memories of the past. I looked up to find the pink jacket girl talking.
"My name is Laura. My favorite color is pink and I like to dance". She said.
I snorted at her boring introduction but all the boys in the class looked at her with smile including Brandon.
Finally, it was my turn to tell them about myself. I was pretty sure no one was interested to know about me and their enthusiasm had diminished as I was the last one in the class to introduce myself. But I took the deep breath and told my name.
"I'm Madeline". I said
I still didn't get anyone's attention. Everyone ignored me making me feel extremely uncomfortable and awkward, even teacher was busy looking at some stupid things on the table. The uneasiness was making it impossible for me to continue my introduction.
I glanced around to seek some kind of attention from other kids then my eyes landed on Brandon. He was looking at me with the same beautiful smile on his face like he was waiting for me to continue my introduction so he can get to know me better.
A small smile appeared on my own lips; I felt confident and started to speak. My eyes were focused on Brandon; it felt like he was the only one in the class room with me.
"I'll be turning five after two months. I love reading stories and my favorite food is pizza. I love playing football". I said staring at him. When he heard that I love playing football his smile widened.
Finally, my little speech ended and teacher started giving books to us.
I took the book from her hand and wrote my name on it. I knew how to write and read because my mother taught me a lot of things at very young age and I was grateful for that time that I get to spend with her.
I miss my mother a lot. Aunt Emma is not like my mom and she doesn't even treat me like she treats Delia.
After two hours, doing nothing but scribbling my name on the book and play tick tock with me, teacher finally allowed us to have some lunch. All the kids hurriedly dug in their bags and pulled out lunch boxes full of appetizing food. I just looked around awkwardly because I had nothing to eat, no lunch box to pull out from bag.
I glanced at Brandon who was offering Laura to share his lunch with him. She glared at Brandon and pushed his box away. I narrowed my eyes at her actions.
Suddenly, Brandon leaned towards her and kissed her on the lips. I gasped at his action as well as the teacher. Laura started crying in her shrill voice making me cringe and other kids looked at them with frown.
Brandon face turned sad at her response. I think he wasn't expecting her to cry. He looked baffled like he couldn't understand what was wrong with her and why she was crying like a dying dinosaur.
That day my heart broke. The first boy that I have ever liked just kissed another girl in front of my eyes. I thought there was no way that my broken heart can mend again.
Hey lovelies !!!!!
Note: For all those people who are saying that it's too early for crush to develop. Let's get something straight here, kids are human, they've feelings too, they understand and feel who loves them or hate them. Kids can fall in love too. If you think this is not true then answer me how parents know that their kids love them? And please explain to me how a kid can get so attached to their parents, siblings or their relatives? It's not because they just see them daily and meet them or their mommy say, "hey it's your aunt and you should love her". The only connection they develop with anyone is on the bases of love. The kid or baby feels the love in your actions and that's all that matters to a kid. They definitely wouldn't demand a character certificate from you before loving you. Your actions are the only way of communication for them. Or they maybe generally like you because you're wearing their favorite color or doing something they like and it fascinate them. Kids are the most innocent soul in the world and that's what this prologue shows.
